Mostly this thread is just a bit of fun for me. I've been in this environment most of my life, slinging insults with no real animosity. It's part of growing up in a big family, part of serving in the military and part of working blue collar jobs around guys who have had to work for everything in life. You talk a bit of trash, have a beer and laugh.

However, some people can't differentiate. I learned that decades ago, when my friends and I spent our free time playing dungeons and dragons. For most it was just a game, but for a few it became their reality.

That's why I'm walking away from the Stupid Shit threads. When guys start wishing I would die, when guys start claiming they are gods, it's no longer just fun and games. It's become a new reality, a dangerous new reality.

In the past, I've tried to not only provide accurate and useful information, I've also tried to call out the bullshit, the bad advice and the useless information. It's not because I want to be the sole source of information on Medellin. There's no way I can ever accumulate the knowledge many of the guys here have, other than learning from them, something I am happy to say I have done. My reason for providing information, etc, is for the warm fuzzies. Whenever ever someone thanks me, I feel good. Whether I recommend a restaurant or a girl, if the person enjoyed my recommendation, I'm happy I briefly made someone's day a little better.

I'll still try to help, but I'm staying away from this stuff. It's gone way beyond harmless fun into the realm of serious mental health issues. I'd rather not have it escalate from people hoping I will die to people attempting to speed up the process.

Why no, they can't. Actuaries work from mass data, making individual estimates based upon the entire population. They don't use (almost non-existent) individual data to estimate the effect on the entire population. That would make as much sense on basing everyone's insurance premium on the driving record of one person.

Epidemiologists can't help you either. They work with data, real, useful information. Where did I sit in the airport, in relation to ventilation and other passengers? How long was I in the airport? Was my mask well fitting and in place? What type of mask was I using? What was my proximity to other passengers on the flight? In Colombia, how many people did I make contact with? What was the length of the contact? What preventative measures were in place? Of course they would also have to know whether I had the Alpha variant or the Delta variant, something nobody knows.

Remember, unless a country requires a Covid test prior to entry, something that your sweetheart ElVipocrite was ardently opposed to, any traveler without a positive Covid test, or classic Covid symptoms is not responsible for anyone who might be contaminated by their travel. Their responsibility only begins after symptoms appear and they test positive.

If not for the US required entry test, I would have returned and gone back to work, not only putting people at risk on the return flight, but endangering my coworkers.

If Colombia had not removed the testing requirements, which were in place when I made my reservations, I would not only have cancelled the trip, but I would have been in quarantine much sooner. However, if I had simply followed the CDC guidelines, I would have come out of quarantine while I was probably still contagious. Unfortunately, there's seldom a perfect solution.

It's easy to sit and pass judgement on others, especially when you have your mother to do your laundry and bring you snacks. It's much more difficult if you have to go into the big, scary outside world and deal with real life situations.
