Most everyone here knows that Elvis and I couldn't agree on what time of day it is, let alone anything more substantive. Well, it pains me to no end to say this, but Elvis demonstrated some good awareness of the Latino and machismo culture here in Colombia. Naturally someone from the US who has lived in my former country might have a hard time grasping the concept. Why in the world would a 25 why / o super attractive woman want to date a man who is 30-40 years older? In the US it would plain and simply be assigned as a Gold-digger hoping to score the easy life.

But as Elvis pointed out women are not preoccupied with a man's looks (a big difference contrasted with US women). A good hearted, successful man is a very desirable match. He can provide for his family. If they have children he is far less likely to evaporate in the wind as so many young Colombian men seem to do. The woman sees less of the muscles and more of the future for herself and their children. They will get to live in a better and safer area of the city. The children will go to better schools. All these types of advantages are presented to young girls by their mother, aunts and grandmother. It is cultural. In Colombia women can have successful careers but it is far more difficult. In the US women have much the same opportunities as men but even today the pay-scale isn't level. In Colombia women have far fewer opportunities and the pay-scale isn't tilted it is lop-sided in favor of men.

So yes, if you are a foreigner you can score women morning, noon and night, especially if you are opening your wallet to do so. BUT if you learn the language at least passably well and DARE to talk to women and initiate a conversation AND have a semblance of intelligence you can date women who are bright, beautiful and curious about your life and culture. One of the great advantages of Colombia! The culture is ideally suited to many of us.
