Russian source: Has corruption undermined nuclear deterrence?

"Rampant corruption is reported to have rendered Russia's ballistic missile early warning system virtually useless. Scams by contractors are said to have led to unsuitable foreign-made components being used on a wide scale".

"Most of the components, as usual, were purchased abroad and under the guise of procuring expensive transistors protected from interference and radiation, the brains of the radar were supplied with cheap parts that were unusable for military purposes".

"This made it possible to have a huge profit margin, a thousand different kinds of radio components were purchased for cents, and invoiced for hundreds of dollars each".

"According to a source, the result now is that Russia has unstable radars, which provide a "window of opportunity" to hit Russian territory without retaliation".

    https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1...021433347.html

Although it's a Russian source, if this report is true it's likely that Western intel agencies and others (Ukraine, China, etc.) are aware of the situation. And, according to the report, Putin is also aware. Here are a few possible implications:

    1. Any nuclear saber-rattling by Putin will be viewed as nothing more than a bluff by Ukraine and Western allies, as well as by China. That was probably already the case, but this reported info would provide an additional factual basis.

    2. If the report is true, with respect to early warning radars, then it's reasonable to assume that corruption may have undermined other areas of Russia's nuclear (and conventional) capability. That's because the same electronics component shell-game scam could easily be used elsewhere, in both nuclear and non-nuclear military systems.

    3. Putin is very likely aware that the West knows, and that China also knows. So he'll be aware that any nuclear threats coming from either the Kremlin or Russian state media will only be useful for scaring the uninformed public.

The article indicates that more info might be coming out in the near future. We'll have to wait and see, since it's obviously in Russia's interests to keep info like this under wraps.

Institutionalized Russian corruption, the gift that keeps on giving!

What's the Russian word for "Depends," and also for scummy? And it's reported that he has some bodyguards who specialize in cleaning up #1 leaks, and others who specialize in cleaning up #2.

I'm guessing you'd be a likely candidate for the #2 group.

Girkin (former FSB, aka Strelkov) voices a dismal assessment of Russia's situation.

"Igor Girkin is very pessimistic today. He says it is time to start thinking about preventing Russia from falling apart because military defeat is near.

    Translation:

Regular readers and listeners should remember the assessment of the situation that I laid out (and expressed) last winter. One of the theses was: "If the necessary national measures for the successful conduct of the war are not taken before May, we will not be able to win this war.

I state: NO MEASURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN. Neither organizational nor personnel. The goals of the war have not been determined, and the inhabitants of the Planet of the Pink Ponies (PRP) have not understood that "this war will be fought until one side is victorious. Accordingly, since there is no goal, there is no strategy. No strategy. No conscious work on its implementation. But the enemy has a strategy from the beginning and is being implemented with all its might. More and more successfully since the Kremlin is "playing giveaway" with an inexplicable enthusiasm and childlike confidence in the ultimate "contract" that is comfortable for the elderly Ponies, Elephants, and Unicorns.

Now we have to think about how to preserve the state, the country and the people in a situation of impending military defeat.

And, yes. Even for a "worthy non-fatal defeat" (in which our enemies will be forced to abandon their plans for the complete fragmentation of Russia and the elimination of its sovereignty) we will have to fight long and hard. Harder and longer than it would have been if we had fought to win decisively from the outset. And the longer the occupants of the PRP will linger in the "sweet languor" of confidence in their peaceful and happy old age (which has long come for most of the VIPs) - the less chance that in the end the Russian ship will manage to get out of the military storm and systemic crisis, without sinking (after a long and bloody Troubles) into History".

P.S. In an off the record comment, Girkin suggests that Putin FanBoy Questner should subscribe to Girkin's "Twatter" channel. Girkin said that it might help Questner to extract his head from Putin's Pink Pony ass.

Yep. And then their propagandists turn around and scream how they're not fighting Ukraine--they're fighting the whole Nato.

You're fighting the whole Nato, aren't you? Why? Because they give Ukraine tanks and some missiles (not even long-range missiles or aircraft, mind you)?

That's funny because whatever Nato's giving Ukraine now, pales in comparison with the US land lease for the USSR during the WW2.

If you're fighting the whole Nato now, then you have no claim for WW2. Make your pick, scumbags.

The Ukrainians brought this upon themselves by trying to have a democracy. There is a lot of corruption in Ukraine (conspicuous lack of mention of the kleptocracy he lives in). ".

If so, too bad he wasn't pushed by the other guy (et tu, Patrushev?) but highly unlikely he'd poke his head out of his bunker-hole.

    Drone attack: Desperate false flag?

"If you carry out a false flag operation you are supposed to follow up, as if it was genuine, to give you at least marginal credibility, but the Kremlin stooges are so full of themselves that they did not even bother to try to be credible".

"How could they instantly know that Ukraine was behind the attack? How could they believe that anybody would be so dumb as to expect Putin in the Kremlin at night? Why were two men on the dome of the Senate Building in the middle of the night? Why were the buildings not damaged? Why did they not seek and arrest any suspect culprits? Why hasn't any responsible air defense generals been sacked? How pathetic, Putin".

Here's an opinion piece, by a Swedish author, that raises some relevant questions about things that happened during the incident (2 men climbing the Kremlin dome, in the middle of the night, at the exact time of the attack, really?) as well as things that should reasonably have happened in the aftermath (no one held accountable or sacked over the intrusion). The article makes additional points but the above excerpts capture the gist of the argument.

Once again, the knee-jerk narrative ignores or avoids inconvenient facts. If it was a false flag, how desperate must the Kremlin be?
