You are correct. The chance of getting busted for one stop is minimal, but it's not impossible. If a trolley cop hops on your car, exiting at the next stop will not solve the problem. I've seen them ticket someone for just waiting in the SY bench. I agree it's much less likely to happen with only 1 stop. But it's two dollars and fifty cents. I'd just pay the fare. If that challenges me financially, I should probably avoid the zona.

It's funny to think about. We all have our own risk tolerances. The things I will do in the zona, but I sweat $2. 50. LOL.

I got a ticket for trying to ride the trolley without paying. It was an embarrassing experience. As soon as two trolley cops jumped on board one guy immediately exited the train and I had the immediate instinct to do the same, but for some reason I stayed put probably out of curiosity to see exactly what happens if you get caught. Do they give you a warning? How much is the citation? Well they didn't give me just a warning and the citation was over $100. Another guy on the same train speaking Spanish managed to talk his way out of getting a ticket. That's one thing about Mexicans they'll talk their way out of anything.

My advice is just pay the fare. The money goes to maintain and upkeep the train maintenance and parking lots.

I say no need to pay the 2. 50 because you're only going 1 stop. Who's going to check your ticket? If anybody gets on to check tickets at the border, you'll be getting off. This is only for Beyer station only. If you park in any of the lots further north buy a ticket. It's not worth getting fined for riding without a ticket. Save the 2. 50 if you find yourself at Beyer. There are street parking along the West side of San Ysidro Blvd behind the KFC, the 99 C store and on Border Village Rd. May be safer but just be careful of street signs, restricted parking in malls and avoid being towed. I parked my car there a few times but never left it overnight.

I am not aware that you can ride the trolley for free on the last stretch from Beyer stop to San Ysidro. Find street parking near any of the trolley stops along freeway 5 and ride it down. The trolley web site says it operates 24/7 but that may be inaccurate. I think the trolley last ride from San Ysidro is 11:55 PM and restarts at 5 AM.

If all else fails, there are unscheduled vans waiting all night in the parking lot across from the JIB, departing about every hour, taking mostly farm workers to Los Angeles train station and Fresno. They would drop you off at any address along FWY 5 for cheap. 2 AM one night my return ride failed to show, I took a van with an old farm worker, driven by an 1-arm amputee. He charged me only $20 to drop me off at an address in OC. Damn good deal. He was hoping to pick up more passengers in LA to go to Fresno, very hard life.

I would totally be up for downing some brews with you but I won't be back in Tijuana until the first week of July. I wish I lived in SoCal like so many of you. Having said that, too much accessibility to Tijuana might be a bad thing financially. Haha! I'll PM you a day or two before I arrive. BTW. I think it's cool that you're older and I've always respected my elders because they've lived more life and seen more things. I've been parking on Virginia Ave or around the corner on border village Road which is alongside the 99 cents only store for years. Never an issue with safety, getting a ticket or being towed. I've never left my car for more than 2 days and most of the time only for an overnighter. If you pay for parking for a day trip you're a moron and I can't help you. There are signs in this area that say no overnight parking or no parking between 2 am and 6 am so make sure to park where signs are not posted and you won't be fucked with. You can also park at the beyer st trolley lot and either walk to the border or jump the trolley. No need to pay the 2. 50 because it's only one stop. The walk is about 1. 5 miles. Moe.

Parking near border has gotten very expensive.

Why let these greedy people rob you? You can find street parking near any of the trolley stop and ride it down to the border for $2.50. If you will be gone for a couple days, make sure to avoid street cleaning days and don't block any red neck's driveway hehe.
