Hey all,

I'm looking at visiting Acapulco for a weeklong vacation around October 15th. A lot of great info to get started with for my first time in town.

The best deals coming out of Toronto that week seem to involve the Avalon Excalibur hotel. Any thaughts on this hotel and in particular are they chica friendly?

If you are looking for a low cost, but good value-for-the-money accommodation, go to the hotel called "El hotelito". Very clean, very friendly service, less than 100 m from the beach. They charge about 80-90 USD per night for a large room with two beds. No sea view, though;-) I never tried bringing a girl in, but based on the very relaxed attitude of the personnel I would imagine that it would not be a problem. No children allowed in the hotel, don't exactly know why. But their target group seems to be "young" travelers, whatever it means.

There are great discos just around the corner, but most of the strip-tease bars are a few kilometers away, i.e. better to take a taxi.

Interesting. I was in Acapulco for the first time myself recently. What's more, I was considering undertaking my first trip to Rio this summer as well. Now, given the sheer volume of the reports in the Rio section one would think that this is the capital of Mongering in this hemisphere. Right?

As for Acapulco, I found it to be an undoubtedly beautiful place and fairly sane. For me, when I'm traveling solo, mongering takes up about a quarter of my time; I like to know that there are other things to do and see as well.

I visited the three top strip clubs (Tabarres, Chicas, Foxys). I have to say that I was turned off by the high pressure tactics. At each place I went to, a girl was immediately 'assigned' to me. Then the same BS: 'would you like to buy the girl a drink'; 'would you like a table dance'; ect. Then, after politely declining so I could be alone to scope out the scene, another girl would immediately take this girl's place. Forget it! I left each place after only one drink. Were the girls hot? Yeah, I saw a couple 8's, but mostly 7's and 6's.

I decided to try one of the brothels mentioned in this thread: Rebecca's. The ride there was kind of unsettling: dark, narrow roads in the hills of Acapulco. When we got there I saw a dark, small apartment complex with the name 'Rebecca's' on it. First of all, I'm impressed: After having spent several months in Rio, I went for five days to Acapulco (my first time). If I would need to decide now, whether I should go to Rio or Acapulco next time, I'd definitely choose Acapulco.

A few observations:

A few conclusions: Typically the girls start by asking some 1500-1800 MXP, and immediately drop the price with 30 %, if you suggest it. Surprisingly, the best looking girls don't even propose "full sex" service, but *you* need to take the initiative. Practically all were really nice, girlfriend types - and beautiful (it's up to you, you simply need to avoid the less beautiful ones). What I found out, the girls typically need to pay 300-400 MXP "rent" for the room you occupy for the 30-45 min (or even 60 min), and the rest they can keep themselves. The lap dance was typically very erotic, but if you want to save a few bucks (200 MXP), just ask for the sex right away.

All the establishments I visited had separate rooms for the "full sex" service. But the lap dance took place practically in the same space where the dancers were performing (and the audience sitting). But of course there was some kind of low wall or curtain to guarantee some minimum privacy.

The personnel was very friendly everywhere, in the hotels, bars, shops, etc. Taxi drivers suggested very different amounts for the same ride: Anything in between 0 MXP (yes, zero) to 100 MXP. It's up to you to decide what you want to pay, and the drivers seemed to take your bargaining as a positive challenge, like a game. Surprisingly, the recommendations of the taxi drivers were also quite reliable: If they promised to bring me to a place where there are "beautiful, young girls" instead of "silicon bombs", I typically ended up to a place where there indeed was at least one "beautiful young girl" - waiting for me! Maybe this is due to some kind of low season, I don't know.

I'm not saying Acapulco is necessarily a "low cost" mongering location, but by spending a few thousand MXP each day I got excellent value for money, IMHO. I'll go back sooner or later.
