That seems to be the case, but of course quite a few outliers as well: Brazil 28000 confirmed cases per million, $16000 GDP per capita. Norway 3000 confirmed cases per million, $64000 GDP per capita.

If a country has significant commerce, they probably have more funding for testing and probably have an older population. Niger is one of the poorest countries captured in the chart you provided. Median age there is 14 years old. How much GDP per capita are you going to have when half of your population is under 14 years old? Because the population is so young, if they catch C19, there is a large likelihood that they would be asymptomatic, and as such would never go to a hospital to get tested. That assumes that the hospital has funding for tests, which of course, they wouldn't.

Within Western countries, you can see a lot of disparity between confirmed cases. In USA, Blacks and Latinos seem to be two to three times more likely of contracting C19 than Whites. If blue-collar, the probability of having the opportunity to work from home is much lower. Blacks and Latinos tend to make less money, have larger families, and are clustered around cities where housing is more expensive, so that means more cramped living conditions. Also USA has less of social safety net, so blue collar workers out of economic necessity or fear of being replaced, may take more chances to report to work, even if they are showing symptoms.

Compelling data graphic. On initial inspection, there seems to be strong correlation. But upon closer inspection, the data was graphed on a base 10 logarithmic scale making it appear as if countries like Romania and Switzerland shared a similar income range as compared to say Laos and Cambodia where Romania should be. Same goes for the vertical axis where countries like Germany and the USA share a similar region in per capita infection. The graph is thus a bit misleading. But it's fair to say that some degree of correlation exist between extremely poor or rich countries and covid spread. What it fails to show is useful correlation when comparing the middle 80%. Why are similar GDP per capita countries such as Japan and the UK so different in infection rates? Why are Poland and so Brazil so different?

Just my opinion. But I don't see how so many guys can enjoy the benefits of living in a country with a very high per-capita income and complain about the detriments such as the high cost of living.

Sweden set their single day record with 2820 new cases on October 28. If the virus had been circulating freely in Sweden all these months, then shouldn't their single day record have been established sometime between April and September? My belief is that the Swedish have been diligently following the recommendations of their health authorities since the beginning of the pandemic. In other words, even though there was not an "official" lockdown mandate, most Swedish voluntarily limited their social contacts. To put 2820 new cases into perspective: if adjusted to USA's population, it would be the same as the USA logging 90 K new cases in a single day. But USA's single day record to date is only 82K. My prediction is the Swedish will have it under control before the Spanish, French, and Czech, because Swedish authorities just put out new recommendations:

The problem is not how much you earn but how much you spend. Most of the American I know have a lot of loans to pay back, they buy so many things on credit, I buy nothing on credit except real estate and if I compare with my friends I have more assets than most of them. I never bought a new car in my life but always preferred to buy a additional apartment or house, restore it and sell it again, or buying shares. Even today I drive my 15 YO Toyota land Cruiser and for sure I could buy a new one. I refuse to pay any fees for any bank, I use pre paid sim card, no company has access to my bank accounts, when I have to pay my electricity or gas. I go the post office to pay it. As far as the economy goes, Trump's claims Of accomplishment are quite bogus and w / o merit. First, no one gets a pass on year 4 of a 4-year term. GWB could not say "please ignore 2008 and judge me 2001-07". Real people are having a really horrible time in 2020, and "but 2020 doesn't count" is nonsense. China grew its GDP 4% most recently. We are in deep negative GDP territory. As is most of W EU.

Secondly, the 2017-19 so called prosperity was juiced with a massive tax cut which was not paid for, and with Fed helping the POTUS with highly accommodative policy stance. The tax cuts were not paid because there was no spending cut offset. None. When it comes to spending, Trump is as bad as any Dem, or worse. On the Fed issue, he badgered Jay Powell non stop, going so far as to compare him to Xi Jinping in a tweet in 2019. Bottom line: we have increased national debt be the highest amount in a single term and Fed has used up so many bullets that if we have a massive 2nd wave and the economy goes into a tail spin, the ability of Fed to help out is hugely limited because they already did way too much. At some point, liquidity trap which normally is an academic subject becomes a real thing.

So, no! Trump's boasts on the economy are hollow. It is actually amazing that he doesn't get more push back from Biden, partly because Biden is too slow and not that smart. If someone like Paul Ryan was running against Trump, or even Romney, they would have pointed out the absurdity of Trump's claims on economic accomplishments.
