Pessimist: I hope your friends in nbim gets fired soon! That fund should never have had portfolio managers. The very idea that they have it reeks of corruption. Plus they do a terrible lousy job looking at the results they manage statistically over time. I know people that make trading robots for Wallstreet banks who could automate better results than all the nbim portfolio managers combined. Portfolio managers can be fine in certain funds, but not in this type of fund. It is basically an index fund with some added wannabe rules. Easily automated.

NBIM is run pretty conservatively. You look at NBIM return, think it is 8% or 10% and think hmm, I put 100% in equities and had much higher return, I am better than NBIM. But when they are running $1. 3 T, they can't risk as an individual investor would; their returns are based on allocation.

Having said that, I do think they did underperform of late. As a PM, it is a nice job if you can get it. They don't pay as well as independent asset managers do from what I understood, but even so, the ones managing more than one billion in equities are taking home north of $1 M.

If your solution is do nothing, open it up and let it rip, then I suggest you take a look at India or UK or US before the restrictions. The virus is not going away and lockdowns are only delaying the inevitable. Lockdowns or restrictions just buy some time to not overwhelm the hospitals and to have more time to vaccinate people. The virus will be around for the foreseeable future. Most people who are not vaccinated will catch it at some point. Many will not get sick and some will get sick with all the downsides of that.

I've asked that too. His only answer has been "lock up the old and vulnerable". But his own argument that restrictions only delay future spread comes to a halt when you ask, "what do you do to eventually let those people out of quarantine?" doesn't seem to provide solutions since he is anti covid vaccines. Perhaps he wanted old and vulnerable people to be locked up until the vaccine testing meant his 5-10 year requirement.
