It would help if you know the difference between Phase III versus Phase IV trials and during which period drugs are approved. BTW, it's after phase III. That phase usually takes several years due to enrollment and finances but each patient is not followed for several years as part of Phase III. Each individual's role in phase III ends after several months. At that point, those individual patients have already begun Phase IV which has no bearing on initial drug approval. Meanwhile new patients are added to the pool of Phase III participants. Phase IV continues after drug approval and drugs are then recalled if negative effects are discovered.

But I think it probably has more to do with lack of trust in institutions and Dunning-Kruger effect. Say Kanye West, he's super successful in the music industry but a complete flop in most other areas. So what is his internal wiring? Dude has so many mental issues. I remember hearing on the Joe Rogan podcast another musician talking about how when he met Kanye before he was well known, dude was an awkward, shy dork. West was raised by a couple of academics who were tied to some extremist Blank Panther movements. This is not the be a criticism or racist, but due to their mistreatment in pre-civil rights America, many in the black American community still carry that mental trauma and pass it along to their children, in this case, to Kanye. You see a parallel in the Asian American community and perhaps in numerous immigrant communities across the globe. However there are people whose mental trauma manifests as behavior that is detrimental to society. You see the guys diving into ridiculous conspiracy theories. It stems from the same roots of insecurity. The thing about those guys is that they're always the ones who have sucked at most things in life, resulting in grown men who never acquire social value. Conspiracy theories gives them the off chance of being right once in a full moon and getting a short taste of having some twisted sense of value. Most of my life this year has been spent in the hospital where everyone is wearing a mask for 13+ hours a day. Some have to wear an N95 mask for the entire day. It's amazing how much a person can adapt to the current situation. I've learned that smile has become unnecessary to read a person's attitude. Eyes and demeanor is enough, not ideal, but more than enough.
