I had Friday off, decided to try out MP Genesis, hopefully find the often recommended Diana. Have to say, parking at the rear of the establishment was excellent, easy ingress and egress. But other than that, very disappointing!

Just the perception of it will lure the darkside of life - count on it. In a time when the cartels are waging war over border control, I can't see gaming as anything other than a magnet. Just another source of funding, if they play their cards right (no pun intended).

As far as us foreigners go - sounds like easy money for someone and I don't mean any of us. I'm sure, just like anywhere else that offers "free money", some mongers will run into problems because of it but my biggest concern is how it will impact the area in general. It's something that I can only hope the 'powers that be' have considered and created an itinerary for.

When the USSR dissolved and Russia allowed a gaming enterprise, a friend of mine went over there as a pit-boss. He compared it to the gangster (the real ones) era of the 20's/30's. Full blown corruption and shoot 'em ups over control but in a violent back-assward way.

All this distaste on the matter from someone who made gaming a big part of life and thinks of it as a damn good thing - but not on this border...

I have read on Tijuana forums about the cops waiting at the crossing point jacking up Americans for money.

My parquero tells me a more family oriented version of things to come including shops and amusment rides.

Now imagine the new zona. If it is going to be like Nuevo Laredo chances are we will get jacked up upon entering the zona.

Mariscal and Santos Degollado from their intersection near the river to 16 de Septembre is coming down. New buildings will be going up with shops and restaurants. Some believe that the Congreso de la Unión (Mexico’s Congress) will soon legalize casino gambling and the Juarez casinos will be in this area as well. With the major Pemex oilfield in decline the need for new revenue might just push that through. If Mexico had casino gambling they could run the country on Texas money.

On a mongering note, Cleopatra’s closed the four new rooms upstairs after only a few months of use. They were nice with wider tables. Each had it’s own shower and baño. I only got to use them twice with a delightful Durangan named Norma who is no longer there. Sure would like to know where she went.

Ah yes. That was something that Chino at Queens also mentioned - casinos. As far as the area to come down, those boundaries were also mentioned in the article Clydesdale posted a link to.

Having lived in a gaming state/town (Las Vegas) for 25 years, and seeing how regs can be manipulated, ignored, and/or enforced by American standards over those years, it will be more than interesting to see how a government entity such as Mexico's will "handle" things. More than interesting. Myself, I see it as the proverbial bucket of paint on top of a partially opened door.

Decided I should go down for a picture-fest of what was and what still is before it's all cleared. No chica report other than "where are all these gordas coming from?".

After I explained my visit and how the old bars were being torn down, even the Custom Agent at the turnstile expressed disappointment with a "Wow, that's too bad...". El Paso now has to kick those Koreans merchants from downtown with eminent domain and put the downtown revitalization plan to work, only fair if Juarez got rid of the wh0res houses.

Why you picking on the Koreans? Nobody ever did shit about downtown till the Koreans moved in. When the locals saw what these people did they got jealous and now want to steal what others built. Besides the Koreans main customers are Juarez shoppers and the land grabbers want to do what, make high class shops that only a few in El Paso can afford.
