Jebus! Why would anyone in their right minds go near a city like this? Am I missing something about its charms?

I live in this "God Forsaken City", and I can tell you it is not nearly as bad as the media points it to be. Those killed were not innocent civilians, there was a reason to their deaths. Stay out of the cartels business, they stay out of yours.

Reynosa is also a little sketchy right now. Damn near all the Tex / Mex border towns in Mexico are a little sketchy right now. Bbond even questions the wisdom of mongering in Juarez at the present time, with all the risk involved. I'm worried I'll get kidnapped in Juarez. Not many gabachos (white guys) in Juarez, right now.

If I had the choice of doing any trip over again it would be my Lima or Buenos Aires trips 5 years ago. Those were the days.

Jackson, the moderator of this board, lives in Buenos Aires. I think he feels Buenos Aires in the best place in the world to monger. Not me. I'll take Thailand, then the Philippine Islands in 2nd place.

I don't mean to offend anyone with my gabacho comment. Some guy in Juarez called me a gabacho. I didn't know what that meant. I asked some girl yesterday what that meant, and she told me it meant, "a white guy."

I'm sorry if this has already been said, but I haven't read all the replies yet. I say, if you have to fly to get there, Mexico is a waste of time, except maybe Tijuana. If I'm getting on a plane to head to a monger destination, it is going to be way further south than Mexico. Don't get me wrong. I love Mexico, and I will be making my triumphant return in two or three weeks. The reason I am going to Mexico is that it just isn't in the cards for me to go to Costa Rica or Colombia right now. Trust me, In San Jose, CR right now, there is great weather (a little rainy, but 75-80 degree highs) , and plenty to do besides P4P. Nuevo Laredo, in my opinion, sucks for anything more than sex and good street tacos. Also, it's probably just a little to sketchy right now for someone who has never been before.

Thank You. I have come to the same conclusion but have to agree that Tijuana still has potential. The Costa Rica vibe was a huge turn off to me and Colombia was just too slow and too much drinking. The food was awful as well. If I had the choice of doing any trip over again it would be my Lima or Buenos Aires trips 5 years ago. Those were the days.

I am on a medium sized budget and like to stay places for at least a month. No long flights to asia for me. It's getting harder to swing.

I really appreciate all these responses and PM's that I'm getting. It all sounds interesting to me. Very interesting.

My only concerns would be the weather and what to do in between sessions. When I was in mexicali I got really sick from going between 100 degree heat and AC. What do you guys think is a good month to go down to avoid such drastic weather?

I've read about NL on some tourism sites and they mention excellent shopping and fun nightlife. Can anyone who has been to both Tijuana and NL compare the two in those regards? Mexicali also had a little bar area but I would hardly consider it a festive scene on a weeknight. Although technically you could have a drink and get laid any night. Party? I'd rather call it availability.

Are there door girls in NL besides BoysTown? It seems like there are more options down there than just BT.

No, you have boystown, and then the downtown clubs. You can walk across bridge #1, and walk 5 blocks to get to Montera Club, Herradura Club, and all the rest of the downtown clubs. You don't need a car. To get to boystown, you pay $10 to catch a cab to boystown.

I knew about cabs to BT but it's good to know that el centro has a few clubs as well. Are these open all day or from the late afternoon on? I am trying to get an idea of what other things I can do. Nice restaurants on the cheap good shopping regular clubs to socialize. That kind of thing.

From a pfp perspective it seems like there are options and I've read somewhere that prices are comparable to Tijuana which really sparked my interest.

Combining Reynosa with a NL trip is also a great idea. Thank you (and bbond) for that suggestion. I'd like to take that idea even a step further and maybe add tampico to it. Reports from "Beavis" stirred my curiousty about that region. Monterrey seems too expensive for me. I am still researching those possibilities.

I wish that you guys have been to Tijuana so you could compare the two.

I also wanted to mention that another monger said that NL is set up more or less like Mexicali. There is a small downtown area where you can walk around and the rest is spread out. This is what I got from looking at you tube videos as well. What say you ? That might cause problems for a visiting monger without a car. What to do when boystown doesn't open until late and it's hot as shit outside with not much to see ? Is this not the case ?

I looked at that map, it is really out of date, many bars closed or changed. Probably 60% would need correcting.

Tamyko, Papaguyos, Maribu, many others closed.

Western Club, next to Danash, and the one across the street, listed as TV bars are not TV bars now. Martha's, ie Donkey, show is open, but I don't think they do the donkey show any more.

If anyone should decide to venture there, I suggest the trucker vans, they will take you to Safari, Danash, Martha's, and get you out at midnight. Door girls are scarce due to late night robberies and violence.

I know several people working in NLBT, I still will not go there after midnight.

Just go to google and type in Nuevo Laredo. A link to Boystown Wikipedia will show up. Click on that and scroll down looking to the right of the page. There is a brilliant color map of just boystown. Maybe someone can verify that those places still exist.
