I'm going to meet a girlfriend in NL. Neither of us know the city. Does anybody have a good hotel to recommend? Something that preferably has good restaurant. Is it currently safe to venture out for restaurants in NL?

Last question is about bus service to mty from NL. How often do buses run? Is there multiple busses running frequently all hours? Any particular bus companies recommended? Thanks.

For hotels I always liked colon plaza. Great restaurant down stairs. There nothing to close for walking ioo as its t's not near Centro. I haven't stayed there for a couple of years now but it was fairly classy. Been doing the airbnb last couple of years. Much more bang for your buck.

I'm a driver. There money to be made but not to much in Laredo. It be near the bottom of the spectrum 40-50 k. First year will be 30k. Really isn't worth it for as much work / time you put into it. I moved up north and fly into Laredo to visit now. Up north hitting 80-120k with year or 2 experience or more isn't to difficult of a range for company drivers.

If your determined it this what I would suggest. Go to swift and get a year in on there dime. They get you your cdl. You need to out a year in for them. Don't fuck up it's easy to do your first year and you become worthless to other companies. 90 to 95% new drivers don't make it threw the first year either they screw up or just can't handle the job.

From there I'd move over to carter express right when you hit your year. You might be able to pull off 60k a year with them. And you end up in Laredo alot for time off.

I'd almost do Carter Express myself so I could get to Laredo more often but it too much of a hit in both pay and benefit for me to consider it. But they are not a bad outfit and a big step up from swift.

Thanks for the information Aceite! I am starting to get very passionate about Truck Driving. I am currently at a fork in the road in my career path. It's a big change from what I have been doing for the last 20 years. I currently live in San Antonio and the top Truck Driving school here is Road Masters which is owned by Werner. I am starting to take the practice tests on my phone until I get 100% of the answers correct, in hopes that it will minimize the amount of time I have to spend class. I know that Trucking is more of a lifestyle than a job, especially for OTR drivers.

As far as pay, I don't understand how a company up north can pay so much better than a company with a terminal at the southern border, if both have OTR drivers going across all 48 states. Are you regional or OTR? Would a Werner employee make more money just because he lives up north even if working the same routes as an employee living down south?

I am not really in it for the money. I just want to live comfortably while living a minimalist lifestyle. But I want to see the country and all the scenery. I am burned out on the current Covid situation which has allot of people live with restrictions. I am tired of high-stress office environments too. I think that the Trucking outdoors would be good for my health.

I miss Monterrey so much. I want to take another trip soon.

I can't remember how many millions or billions of dollars in merchandise cross the Rio Grande valley through Laredo Texas. I have been thinking about making a career change into truck driving at some point and it could be sooner rather than later. I just did a google search and the salary is between 30 k to 65 k with excellent benefits. There market seems to be a good for the truck driving industry right now.

I remember that at the height of Boys Town in Nuevo Laredo, there were a bunch of truck drivers that would cross into Nuevo Laredo for a good time. Is there still a truck driver presence in Nuevo Laredo or Laredo Texas? Is Truck driving a smart career choice for people who live in Laredo Texas? I have been thinking of moving to Laredo Texas as well.

I personally know many truck drivers. Most tell me that to make any money you have to get away from the border area. The competition is fierce here, and rates are low. They visit Laredo because their route brings them here, but few actually work out of here. I believe it is what you make of it, but to make good money, you have to be on the road for a lot of miles, and get away from the border area.

Thanks for the info! I wouldn't mind being on the road for weeks at a time. I think that making Laredo Texas my home would allow me to enjoy the Laredo / Nuevo Laredo culture in between long hauls. My biggest concern is trying to sleep in a tractor truck that makes so much noise. I love my peace and quiet. I noticed that Werner and Swift have locations in Laredo Texas. If I could get on with them, I could be taken nation-wide and then come back home to Laredo after weeks of being on the road. I know that Laredo and Nuevo Laredo can be boring little cities at times, but that fits my personality. Trucking fits my personality as I value my privacy allot.

Crossed Wednesday night 11:30 pm, 2 hour wait Bridge 2. Finally tried Colombia Solidarity Crossing. Amazing no wait, Agent was cool, maybe took 2 minutes.

Be careful there is nothing around for about 15 miles each side of the border, so make sure you have gas. Probably better to cross before 10 pm, very dark there.

Returned from MTY Tuesday night, Crossed again at Col. Sol. Crossing, again zero issues and no wait. So much better experience.

It should not be a problem now. Mexico, at least the state of Tamulipas, has relaxed travel requirements. They no longer check people entering through Nuevo Laredo. The sanitation filters on bridge 1 and 2 have been removed. With those filters in place, they restricted how many could be in a vehicle, not allowing children to enter, etc. That is gone now.

Well. The report in the newspaper was wrong, the sanitation filter on bridge 1 is still operational, you no longer have to sign in, but they are monitoring your temperature on entry. Have not been across bridge 2 to verify sanitation filter there is still there or not.

It should not be a problem now. Mexico, at least the state of Tamulipas, has relaxed travel requirements. They no longer check people entering through Nuevo Laredo. When you last visited MTY did you have any problem getting a tourist visa issued at Nuevo Laredo? I have spent a lot of time in MTY and know the scene pretty good. I would like to do a visit in the next few weeks and want and want to find out of getting a tourist visa issued will be a problem as the border is supposed to be closed to non essential travel.

I was born in Mexico so I always show my Mexican passport. There were 6 other people on the bus with me who were all Mexican born as well so I don't know.

Yes, I was in Monterrey about 1 month ago and had a really good time. However, it wasn't what is used to be before the pandemic. I noticed that the stress levels amongst a few of my regular girls went up due to the pandemic which affected there overall happiness. Some of the girls gained weight and some lost weight. I believe that I discovered a new brothel next to La Hacienda Hotel after I was walking on the other side of the street and I saw a police officer park his truck (which he had all to himself) and go inside a building where there were girls behind the door who appeared to be waiting for customers. So next time I am there, I will check that place out. Now I know that police also partake in this hobby even while in uniform. It's very under the radar. The prices at another high priced brothel, in front of La Hacienda Hotel, got cheaper while the quality of the girls remained the same (hot girls). I love Monterrey. It's the only real monger destination I know but from I can tell, it's pretty good there. I may travel further into Mexico in the future for a change of scenery. Since I am from Mexico, I don't feel like such a tourist when I visit.
