And thus concludes my Texas habit. I've been going to Tijuana several times a year the past few years but even with a free flight it's ridiculously expensive. I haven't been to NL since the early 2000's and have no idea where to go or how to go about it. I haven't been to Boys Town since the early 90's. Anyway, I live in Austin would like to make the trip down soon but only available during the week. Is the Zona open during the week? Are there bars in town that have ladies such as the old Huradura? Would anyone be interested in meeting up and showing me the lay of the land so to speak?

I am done. This is real bad for anyone caught. I used to have family in Laredo so crossing for adult entertainment was not an option. I drove down once but had to leave due to work. I am in Austin now and family relocated north. I am looking to go down in the fall. My spanglish is OK. Hopefully the border situation will improve.

Arrived super early in Nuevo Laredo at 9 am Wednesday morning. Drove up the the Citev building and walked into the left wing to obtain a 5 day FMM card. When digging thru my car trunk, found an old FMM card from months ago, and randomly thought of one time guard mentioned the card does need to be turned in.

They are supposed to be open 24/7, but you may encounter delays going in there at odd hours, they are poorly staffed at night. I never have turned mine in, always just toss it. A 7 day permit is free.

I am moving back to San Antonio Sept 1 and was wondering if you could give me the lowdown on what's happening over there in Nuevo Laredo. Heard there were several shootouts on the 9th with several dead. I have also heard that there are more bars open in La Zona. Do you recommend against going to the Zona for safety reasons at this time? How about even coming to the downtown area of Nuevo Laredo. Your candid opinions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Things are, in one way or another, always changing, but also somewhat staying the same. Shootings happen, mostly late at night, but can happen at any hour. Most downtown bars close at 10 now, a couple stay open late. The zona itself is relatively safe, it's getting there and back that can be somewhat dangerous, but I know people that make that trip almost every night, without any issues. Even with almost 30 bars now open in the zona, it is still but a shell of it's former self.

Proof that I'm not hoarding them and trying to stay on their good side. You know. Diplomacy.

So to stay on their good side, appease USA-Mexico relations, walked up to desk and asked for 5 day permit and showed them an old card they could mark as returned and discard. Instead this happened.

Sir, this card expired April 3 it is now August 4. You overstayed your visit in Mexico! You have to pay the full 6 month price of 575 pesos before I can issue a replacement permit! Cash or card?

Neither, that's just trash. And I didn't over stay, I returned to Nuevo Laredo at 11:30 pm, your office was closed for the night. (Last I checked they're closed 10 pm-6 am).

He insisted the FMM services is 24/7, and we argued for a bit about show some hospitality and let me spend my visitor dollars in MTY and*not be scared off by BS fines.

After we came to conclusion that I wasn't paying the fine (he probably made up) he TOSSED my passport in my general direction told me to buzz off.

Chanced it went to Monterrey anyways. On eventual return trip to Nuevo Laredo, bus was boarded by Mex agent, was an older guy I pretended to sleep face turned away and he never bothered me and hopped back off bus.

MORAL: If entering / exiting via land, fewer headaches to just toss the FMM card.

QUESTION: Did they expand hours to 24/7 like he claims? Because if so,*am looking at a Mex flight would fly out of MTY 11 am so if there is late night FMM card night before in Nuevo that would be super helpful right about now.

Okay, do you normally have the cab driver wait while you get the FMM?

Never have used taxi, always gone with a friend. But I suppose it would be a good idea, because it isn't exactly easy to find one when you get the FMM. Every time I have ever gotten one, there was no wait, no one in front of me. And kind of a messed up walk getting back to bridge 1.

No, bridge 2 is vehicle traffic only. CIITEV is a short cab ride from bridge 1, you could walk it, but the cab fare be like only 50 pesos.

No, bridge 2 is vehicle traffic only. CIITEV is a short cab ride from bridge 1, you could walk it, but the cab fare be like only 50 pesos.

You go to CIITEV close to bridge 2 on the Mexico side. A very short cab ride from bridge one.

This weekend, from midnight Friday the 30th until midnight Sunday the 1st. Ley Seca, no alcohol sales, including the zona.

Nuevo Laredo will maintain, at least for 15 more days, the restrictions imposed by the state government on Covid-19.

In the decree published yesterday in the Official State Newspaper, the current measures are extended, until at least July 31, among which are the sale of alcohol -in warehouses, supermarkets and convenience stores- allowed from Monday to Friday until 8:00 at night, on Saturdays until 3:00 in the afternoon and on Sundays as "Dry Law".

I thinking cross the border, check out boystown, then head back over in the evening or early morning. What's the safest way to do that?
