    Yes.

I have heard the city is dangerous for Americans.
I have been living here for 14 years now, take that for what it is worth.

You should not be messing around in Laredo after dark, just too dangerous.

You don't need a permit just to walk in. However if you plan on going deeper south, a permit is required to do that.

It works a little different than I thought but was easy. For a US citizen returning to the US, all I had to do was show passport and tourist permit. 3 checkpoints in total. 1 Mexico, One at the actual border, then another on the US side.

They didn't give me any trouble at all really.

From what I'm reading we can actually walk into Mexico the same way as long as we get the permit but I haven't tried it. I was interested in avoiding the flight.

Well. An update. The bus was boarded just before reaching Laredo at a checkpoint.

They checked my passport and permit. When I flew in I was issued at no apparent cost a 180 day pass. 6 months. So I'm good.

I'm about to cross border at Laredo. Supposedly I should have no issue.

I bussed from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo for 24 bucks roughly. I'd have been better off budding across the border but I didn't want to wait the extra 4 hours on the greyhound.

I'm just learning how it works. Trying cross with my passport only. I think I stated I would be here 14 days but I stayed 20. I'm not sure if it matters.

My larger issue is getting back to Tennessee. I went this way to scout the process so that I might return this way later. Flying would have been faster and at about the same price if I booked on time. But I didn't want a set departure date.

I've never had them force this one me. They ask for the fee and I say I'm only here for the weekend. The they give the visa. If they did push back I would just pay it. No biggie. If you fly in the fee is included in your ticket.

    Maybe because he's Asian.

Effective Oct 2021 and or lame excuse: "due to concerns of Corona Virus, leisure travel to Mexico is temporarily suspended. Any foreigners traveling to Monterrey even if less than 6 days still need to pay for the $25 paid pass".

I personally had a near miss in September in Tijuana, and with that in mind prior to this WhatsApp buddy situation, was thinking just saying "essential dental work at clinic in Monterrey" and be as vague as possible.

True $25 is well within my spending budget but I don't believe in shakedowns.

He says they even showed him a sign stating Effective Oct 1 2021 until further notice.

    Anyone?
I was in Mexico last week with a 7 day pass and used the Acuna crossing. No fee, it was free as normal.
