I live and drive in NL daily, it is, however, not without risk. I have been very fortunate. I cross to Laredo about once a week, and almost always use bridge 2 going and coming back. The lot he refers to is, I think, the city lot close to bridge1. I know guys that park free, in the street, in neighborhood areas. City lot is more secure and is $8 a day maximum, less if only staying a couple hours.

Joroke, in my opinion it is much easier / safer to walk across to NL. Back in 2005/2006/2007, I used to drive my truck across alot to NLBT / Papagayo's. I stopped driving across after the NLBT Police planted a knife in my truck.

Mexico does not recognize USA Auto Insurance, so if you want to be safe driving in Mexico, you need to purchase Mexican Auto Insurance. An auto accident in Mexico is a criminal offense, not a civil offense like in the USA / Texas. If you get into an auto accident in Mexico without Mexican Auto Insurance and are found at fault for the accident. You better have the cash to be able to pay for the damage to the other vehicle & possible personal injury / injuries. If you don't have the cash, you will be arrested and your vehicle impounded. Bbond posted recently that the NL Transito Cops are back working and some back to their extortion tactics.

It has been around 1 year since I have not been to NL / NLBT. NLBT is not worth going to any more in my opinion. Danash was on it's last legs after they reopened after the car bombing out in front of the club-no air conditioning & around 6 unattractive women working when I last went. Danash is now closed. From what I have read, Shamrock, Pullman, Martas & Safari are about the only bars still open in NLBT. The downtown bars are a short walk from the bridge.

Thank you, Bbond and Mcklipsch. I appreciate the info. Yes, I remember all to well those days a few years ago driving to NLBT. You never knew what surprises those gate keeping thieves (so called cops) at the entrance would come up with. It's almost damned whatever you do. If you drive you run the risk of having an auto accident and dealing with that mess or being stopped by the transito for any made up infraction and having to pay your way out. And if you walk you I feel you're exposing yourself to being mugged by hoods on the street or even the cops patrolling the downtown area. Damn, it's too bad it's come to this.

For those that knew him, I am saddened to report that Tomas, the owner of the Bar Intimo, has passed away after a long illness. How this will impact the operation of the Intimo, Angel pool hall, Bar Redaccion, Bar La Junta, and Bar Gusanos, is not clear. They closed Thursday and may re-open after the funeral. His family may continue to operate them I don't know the whole story yet. Most people that frequent here also know that the Bar Herradura [Horseshoe], once quite famous here, is closed and for sale. It is my understanding the lien holder is, or at least was, going to auction it.

I read your most recent post regarding your trip from San Antonio to N. L. And I notice that you mentioned that you parked your rented car in the truckers parking area next to La Posada. I am just wondering, did you then walk across into NL? I live in Laredo and have most of my life frequented NLBT quite often in the past but when the violence practically shut down the place I stopped going and changed my MO to visiting the downtown bars, although less frequently. I used to go all the time with a buddy of mine who would take his vehicle across, but his wife got wise and but his balls in a jar and through away the key, so NL is off limits for him which means that I am on my own. I'd like to get started on going again but not to sure if I should take my vehicle (truck) into NL or just park it on the US side and walk across. Which is why I am asking about the parking arrangement. Have you at any time driven your vehicle into NL? Or do you mainly walk across? Either way I am wondering which is safest or more / less risking. It would seem as if any of the ways has its pro and cons. Any info from any member on this subject would be appreciated.

Got down to San Antonio Thursday at around 5pm from San Diego. Went to pickup my car rental and they had a Hyundai Sonata reserved for me. Just for the hell of it, I saw a white camaro sitting in the lot and asked if I could trade straight up. The guy told me it would generally cost me 100 a day extra but things were slow so he gave me the camaro for only $9 extra per day. Brand new 2014 camaro to cruise over to NL. Wow! What a great start to my trip!

Spent the night in a hotel in San Antonio and picked up my buddy after he got off work at 12:30pm. We both proceeded to drive down to Nuevo Laredo. Got into Laredo at about 3:00pm and parked in the trucker lot by the bridge and hotel La Posada. The soldier waved us through as we entered Mexico with no luggage check. Noticed there was no military vehicle at the crossing with that grenade launcher mounted. Though to myself that maybe things have actually cooled down. Was a good sign.

Walked over to Emilianos and ordered a beer. Two minutes later, Yandell walks in all dressed up and looking beautiful. This is a girl I met in Papaguayos about 6 years ago. She has a beautiful face and pretty good body but is getting up there in age. About 38 years old. She was a stunner when she worked in Papaguayos. Anyway, we had a couple of drinks and listened to some music. Took a couple of photos, etc. We then decided to get some Chinese food. There is a real good Chinese restaurant about one block south of the square over by the Hotel Meson Del Rey where we always stay. After dinner, she came over to my hotel. We had a good time and then she left to take some food home to her kids. Said she would be back in a couple of hours.

Got dressed and my friend and I headed over to La Montera at about 9:30pm. Not a whole lot of good looking girls. Hung out with a blond that was a little ti.

Psy and proceeded to order beer after beer. Consuming each in about 3 minutes. Got tired of this after buying her 5 or 6 and moved on. My friend had told me that he had been seeing a girl from La Montera by the name of Adelina. Sure enough, she shows up and they start hanging out together, dancing, drinking, etc. Here is the interesting part. He told me that he has seen her hang out with a guy by the name of Javier. This is a local that has hit me and my friend up for money every time we go down there. He is relentless. Always asking for $10. 00 at a time. He has even come to my hotel late at night begging for money. My friend said he saw her a few months ago in the Montera looking beat up with big ole sunglasses on and that Javier is probably to blame. Well, to make a long story short, after about an hour, I see they are not hanging together and that Javier has touched base with her a few times during the evening. I asked him what was going on and he said he didn't have a clue. We leave the Montera at 2pm. When we walk out, we see her and Javier walking down the steet. My friend is like."What the hell?" This is after spending several nights previously with her in a hotel.

So after witnessing the above, we head over to Jorochos bar, which is the bar everyone goes to once Montera closes. The place was packed. I noticed that one of my previous girlfriends that I hadn't seen for a long time was working behind the bar. A cute little blond named Cecelia. I walked over a said hello to her. She and I had gotten into a couple of arguments previously and never fully hooked up as a result. We went over to a table and had a couple of beers. I hooked up with a cute dish and danced and drank for a couple of hours. Next thing I knew, cute Cecelia comes over and sits to my left with the other girl to my right. They are both holding my hands. I always wanted another chance to hook up with Cecelia and dumped on the opportunity. So off we went to my hotel and spent a fantastic night of rekindling our relationship. I love this girl. She is a mature, no game playing girl that doesn't expect anything. Great evening!

The next morning I spent time consoling my friend after what he experience the previous evening. Next think I know, his phone is ringing and the girl tells him she wants to come over as she feels bad about the previous evening. She comes over and they spend the whole day together. He was real happy, thinking that the relationship is back on. He said he was going to get the lowdown on Javier and her but never asked. I head over to the Montera later that night and the two of them showed up as well. They danced, drank and had a good time. At about 2:00am I head over to Jorochos as Montera closed. As I go over there I see Adelina at the entrance but with no friend of mine. I asked her where he was and she said she didn't know. Anyway I hang out until closing and Cecelia and I head over to my hotel for another fabulous night.

We wake up the next morning and my friend proceeds to tell me that he got a knock on his door at 3:00am and Adelina and Javier were standing outside. She tells him to give her money and nothing will happen to him. He asks himself what the hell is going on. After a great day, she shows up to extort money with her henchman. Javier is on the cell phone not even making eye contact with my friend the whole time. My friend tells her to calm down and give her $100 and they leave.
