Best is just to refuse any help from strangers on the street. There are several guys that hang around looking for guys that look new or lost, decline any assistance they offer.

Yea, where there is fish there are fishermen. Fish are the gullible Americans who are tired of crazy American prostitutes and can't get used to the fact that prostitution is common and legal in Mexico. A good example, a few days ago an Americans walks into a spa with flowers and thinks he is in love with a prostitute. It's OK to dream yes, this world is fake anyways, but don't fall for the dream, just enjoy it.

Correct, but it is a little more dangerous in Laredo at the moment, but that is my humble opinion.

Can't make it tonight, but maybe next weekend. I've forgotten already what the deal is for Cinco de Mayo. Is Ley Seca going to be observed in NL next Fri and Sat, May 3 and 4?
And thanks for the information on La Montera.

For some odd reason Cince de Mayo is celebrated in the USA, but not in Mexico. I have never experienced a ley seca for that date.

A little clarification is needed on a comment I made concerning re-opening of Bar Montera. LOS Jorochos has contracted with the people that ran the Bar Montera, but the bar remains LOS Jorochos. Several people from the Montera now operate it and are continuing the traditions that the Montera had. They are drawing people from other bars which is affecting business of the other bars. It's been open 2 weeks now and already making a huge difference. I'll be there Friday night at 9 to watch the Warriors basketball game, come on in.

I'll be arriving tomorrow morning. Essentially treat it like any large city. Mind your business and I should be fine.

I think ill be heading down fairly early in the afternoon.

I have a work project bringing me down to Laredo. I read through a lot of postings and I have mixed feelings about going into Nuevo Laredo. Anybody want to give me tips or advice if I should go or not?

Not knowing you or you preferences, it is hard to advise, but I can tell you here is as safe as any where. Problems, sure, but that's every where. Options, compared to the past? Not nearly as many. Can you have a good time? All depends on you. I am normally downtown 6 or 7 nights a week, and am available to show you around the down town area. Nuevo Laredo is not the monger destination as it once was, but a good time can be had.

Unstoppable, forgive me if I sound rude but I just wanted to point out that I noticed an Asian presence in mty. I have ran into a few thinking that they are tourists from the United States but then I hear them talk and they talk just like any other Mexican person from Monterrey. I went to a place off padre mier called the plaza de tecnolgica or something which is a multi story mall where they sell nothing but high tech gear and noticed that Asians love their technology in Mexico just like in the USA. They are very nice people.

There has been an influx of mainland Chinese that have settled in MTY. This started about five years ago when the Mexican govt cozied up to the Chinese govt to get foreign direct investments. The Asians you see at the Plaza de Tec are Chinese; they import mostly smartphones and accessories. The locals call that place Chinatown.

There are also a lot of Koreans in Monterrey now. Kia built a factory in the Pesqueria area, about 30 minutes NE of MTY in Apodaca. There are nice Korean restaurants and karaokes along Avenida Miguel Aleman. There are more nice Korean restaurants in San Pedro. I ate at Won Korean BBQ and Grill on Sunday night and it was fantastic! Beautiful establishment with great food. Much better than anything in San Antonio or Houston.
