Bbond, thanks for your reply & the info on N. L. Cambios. Yes, I fondly remember Cumbianow. Cumbianow was a very cool, upbeat dude to monger with, he had a very outgoing friendly personality. Some people never learn and I am definitely one of them. Two weekends ago, as my previous post indicated, I hooked up with a nice looking chica that used to work at Papaguayos in NLBT. I refused, as she had told me earlier that she wanted to go to NLBT (Emilianos-next to Danash) to listen to some music. This bar has a great juke box and the owner will play whatever you want. Fun place. So, Yandel hailed a taxi and went back to the hotel pissed again. I tell you, I should have learned the last trip.

So off to NLBT we went (it was about 10pm Friday). We went to Danash first. Not too much action. But there were some real stunners. Chente has hooked up with a girl that works there (I believe her name is Johanna). She immediately came over and sat with him. Man is she fricken hot! We drank several beers and had several women join us (the drinks for the women here are $10 each which is a total ripoff). Johanna told me that she wants to bring her sister (she's 28 years old) down for me next weekend so Chente and I can do a double date. She showed me a picture and I immediately agreed that yes, this is an excellent idea. Talk about a stunner. Damn! We left Danash and headed for Pullman's. The place was totally dead. After paying Yandel off, Chente, his friend (Julio-who used to own the bar El Tauro) in NLBT, headed over to La Montera. Keep in mind that we had been up all night partying. This was at about 9:30am Saturday. To our surprise, there were a hell of a lot of people in the bar and a couple of pretty hot women. We had a fricken great time partying and dancing with several women (Chente knew half of them which made it even better). We ended up partying until 11pm. I must have been with four different women (all pretty hot) who all wanted to spend "todo la noche" in the hotel. The asking price for todo la noche was $100-150. These chicks were great. They were all like girlfriends, making out, french kissing me and grabbing my huevos. I speak pretty good Spanish for a gringo, which helps. This was the funnest time I have had downtown, and the selection of women was pretty damn good. Fun time!

I went back to La Montera pissed as hell and told the owner or manager what she did. He told me if I can point her out the next time I'm there that he will fire her. I thought that was pretty cool. The fact that he respects and appreciate his business. At this point, I was tired as hell after being up all night and ended up crossing back to Laredo and staying in the La Posada Hotel. He bought me a beer in the Intimo, and decided to chance NLBT at 11:30 at night, I told him about Safari, and he was off. Safari is as close to what Papagvuyos used to be that is now open. Sincerely hope things went well, he did not seem too concerned about getting back to town. Tonight, as is almost every Saturday, the Montera is just crazy full, not really any fun unless you get there early enough to get a table and a girl to drink with. Then leaving with her and returning is something else, place is way too packed to enjoy fully. The Intimo, earlier on, had some very nice chicas avaliable, but later it was just dead. Jorrochos and Herradura? Damn it, what a waste of time to even look in there. Sometimes, after Montera closes, lights on at 1:30am people migrate to Herradura, , Herradura will lock the doors at 2:00am, and let people stay until wee hours, exiting the back door, not always but it does happen, more often on Sunday when the Montera has lights on at 11:30pm.

Best exchange, for those that spend more than just a few dollars here, is withdrawing from a Santander ATM with a Bank of America debit card. Neither Santander or BOA charge any ATM fees, only a 1% international transfer fee. Even minus that fee, you will still get at or better than the sell prices for dollars. Example yesterday, buy / compra was at 12. 70 sell / venta was at 13. 00, Santander, with my BOA ATM card payed 13. 099. Generally, the rate paid is just under the rates listed on the exchange web sites, due to the 1% fee. I withdrew 500 pesos, the charge showed on my account as $38. 17. ( that $38.17 at 12.70 is about 485 pesos, not a huge difference, but done daily it adds up.) The only way to find out what they are actually paying at that moment is to make a withdraw, then check your balance and see what the charge in dollars was. You need a computer or smartphone with internet or your cell phone with balance texting enabled to check the balance, or transactions, as the Santander receipt does not show it. The receipt shows only how many pesos were withdrawn.

I pulled up a currency conversion website & it had the exchange rate at 13. 0863-dollars to pesos. It has been 3 years since my last vist to Nuevo Laredo. The exchange houses will always be a bit below internet rates, today it was 12. 70. But I know a way to beat them, it's easy, but if you only change a couple hundred, it's better just to take the best posted rate. Today I was getting 13. 10, I can tell you how but it's another story. US$200@12. 7= 2540 pesos, the same money@13. 10=2620 pesos, only an 80 peso difference, I know 80 pesos is 80 pesos, but to get my rates is only really beneficial if you change a lot more than just a couple hundred. Expand that to $US400, and it's 160 pesos, there you make an additional $12 or so. Best places are close to the bridge in the Mexico side, unless you know how the exchange world really operates, go with the best posted rates close to the bridge. Come on down, downtown is a quite bit different than the zona, but there are some amazing chicas downtown, maybe you will like it maybe you won't.

Cumbianow, (remember him?) got me hooked om downtown. I don't know how many on here are familiar with the Bar Intimo staff. But for those that are, after closing Tuesday night / Wednesday morning, waiter/bouncer Mike, aka "Claudio", was ambushed on the way home, shot twice. Appears it was robbery, as he usually carried the bars money home, or dropped it at the owners house. He remains critical in the hospital ICU. Here's hoping he recovers, he is a great guy and a good guy to have on your side when trouble erupts inside, or outside, the Intimo.

got a distress call to head on down to laredo this weekend on a last second basis. gas to laredo is comped for once which i guess will feel pretty sweet the whole way down. pretty likely i'll be doing the nlbt friday night / saturday morning, and if the stars align and arrangements are made, probably hit up mcallen / reybt on saturday night. if mcallen falls thru, definitely nlbt for an encore. anyone frequenting nlbt on friday nights will likely see a very very caucasive guywith a cocacola bottle catching his breath between therapeutic sessions at the taco stand. feel free to impress that guy with your version of bordertown success.

I went to NL for the first time last weekend. Sorry about being late with the post but had to return to a long work week. Thanks Bbond for the fun time. First, I should suggest if anyone is going down to NL for the first time hook up with Bbond if he is around. One of the coolest people to hang with in the third world. Also, if you don't know the place, you'll chase your tail. Well, I should begin. I crossed about 5-6 o'clock Friday after about 8 hours on the road. Checked into the fiesta and Bbond took me around to the scene. I have to say every town has its own thing and way of doing things, I much prefer the Tijuana or Thailand experience. Pick out a girl, negotiate then get some. Here its a little of a dance or what ever. The first girl I chose I bought her a few drinks asked her how much and she abruptly shut me down with the "that time of the month" bullshit. Then a few hours later I saw her leave with another customer. So that was my first experience. I was not happy. I just wanted to get some after being in Texas for four months without a women. After about five hours of being in this little basement bar buying beers for Bbond and cokes for me and beers for chicas I picked out a cute little chica and Bbond said he knew her, hooked us up then I was off. The absolute longest amount of time and most amount of money I have ever spent to get one girl back to the room. But I was relieved and alot more comfortable once I got one in. We went back to the bar after and about an hour later I just took that same girl back to the room for seconds. I really didn't want to play that game.

The next day me and Bbond went to BT and I saw he already wrote about that experience in a previous post. One note, We went into the bar about noon. A girl asked us to buy her a drink, we said no. A guy sat with her and started buying her beers. We left, went to BT, then had lunch, then went back around 6. The guy was still buying her beers. As we were sitting watching the whole thing, he then asks her to leave with him. She says "NO", he pleads, she says "NO". He leaves alone. This is a little of what I observed is going on. The girls make money when you buy them beers. So some are just there for the beers.

I had a good time. It is not what I am use to. I will be back as soon as possible. I believe that once I go a few times and get to know more of the scene I will get more comfortable. Bbond is a pro and without him I would have had a shitty weekend. He buys girls one beer and that is it, and that is if they are lucky. In the end got there on Friday afternoon and left Sunday morning and got laid four times. We never went to the Blue Fox but the women standing outside were hot. If I go a few times and get a few phone numbers it could be a good scene for me.

Oh yeah, and I was 100 feet outside the door to the bar and Bbond was inside when gunfire rang out in the front of that bar. This is the price of mongering in the third world. I had fun.

I know what you mean about NL being a different scene from Tijuana. I used to live in So Cal (Orange County) and frequented Adelitas, Chicago, Hong Kong, etc. For many years. NL definitely has a different vibe. Not the quantify and quality that you get in Tijuana but there are a few to be found. There are so many hot women in Tijuana that going to NL at first can be a turn off. After you go a few times, you'll find what your looking for and it will grow on you.
