Posts: 72Gato thank you for an informative response. Im glad you understand where I am coming from
Note I would never go to NL as a mongering destination, but I got to be two hours away on business so what the heck.
If I do bring a chica back to a nice hotel, its usually TLN or close thereto.
Whta is your opinion of the best STHs in the downtown area.

Posts: 812Yea I wasn't picking on him but trying to basically say what you did, that it is only a good place if you live close by. By the time you figure airfare and costs you would probably be better off to stay home and use backpage. Oh well we said our piece. He can figure it out. Personally I always thought the downtown motels had a lot of character. Not the 10o peso ones but Fiesta is ok for a night. I have stayed in some hotels in Africa that made those 100 peso hotels look like the Waldorf Astoria. If staying in a nice hotel is so important rent a room at the Fiesta and another to sleep. The girls would rather do their business close to downtown so they can get back to work sooner. I snuck down for a night in January. Since they stopped the smoking inside of the Montero I found the best place to find your gem was standing outside in front of the entrance.

I also like to stay in a nice place when I'm traveling and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn mostly when I'd hit Nuevo Laredo all the time. I rarely brought girls back there. I usually always hit it and quit it in the short time hotels near the action. I know some guys like to stay downtown and bring chicas in but I like having a nice place with clean sheets, hot shower, cable and wifi and cold AC in the summer. A room in NLBT or downtown is OK for a quickie and maybe a shower to wash the stank off, but give me a place to sleep as well. The short time hotels and rooms in NL are so cheap there's no reason to bring a girl back to your hotel unless you're into all nighters --- hard to find someone good like that unless you go down there a lot.
If Frank Dallas is looking for something like Tijuana in Nuevo Laredo, he's about 10 years too late. If you live in Houston or San Antonio Nuevo Laredo is a great place to get your rocks off over the weekend if there's nothing local going on. If you're in those towns on business, same thing, but flying to Nuevo Laredo just for mongering these days isn't worth it.
If you liked the quantity of bar girls at Adelita in Tijuana you'll be disappointed in Nuevo Laredo. There are some real honeys in Nuevo Laredo, there just isn't a lot of them. And those that are around may be tied up with other customers. These pages and other monger boards will tell the story about the police in Nuevo Laredo which make Tijuana's PD look like angels. One my favorite bars in the world is Danash inside boystown, but Hong Kong in Tijuana is much better.
I'm not trying to discourage you, Frank Dallas, but just help set expectations. I had some great times in NL over the years but in recent times it hasn't been worth the drive. These days I live in Southern California and hit Tijuana all the time. Before I lived here, I'd fly in a few times a year and have marathon TJ sessions --- tip: fly into LAX, John Wayne or even Ontario or Long Beach and save hundred on the plane ticket. Since you have to rent a car anyway it is just a few more dollars in gas, it is just like flying to San Antonio to get Nuevo Laredo).
Even though I'm close to Tijuana and there's more girls that I can get to in years, I still do miss NL sometimes, but now that is cost money to fly there, I'm thinking Monterrey is a better option.
As far as food goes, you used the taco stand on the corner by Adelita as your yardstick and Don Luis' tacos by the taxi stand in NLBT is similar. In downtown Nuevo Laredo you can get plenty of good, cheap street food. Standard guideline applies: go where the locals go. If there's no one eating at a place, it is for a reason.

Posts: 72You guys spend more time tossing ad hominems, than info, too bad.
But to answer some snidely worded implications, my idea of a good "home cooked" meal is what the locals eat. I am sincerly sorry to those whose reading comprhension failed to consider that implication. Although I prefer resting my head in comfort, my tummy loves the local food, and not being able ('cuz of where I live) to get goodies like Carbrito, Varne Adobada, Carne Asade, Lengua makes my mouth water. So Bbond if you would drop the editorializing, pleaseyou would be so kind as to tell me where those places are so I can eat in local style, whic is my prference.
And Beavis, not that you are worthy of a response I would note that I am half a**ed fluent in Spanish, speak rudimentary Thai and Cambodian as well as Japanese. I have mongered extensively in TJ (since the early 80s), Thailand, Cambodia, Angeles City, Japan, Cancun, Cozumel, Belize City, Jamaica, Bermuda, Moscow, St. petes, Vladivostok, Kiev, and Frankfurt. I think I'' manage OK if I get some decent advice from guys who wishg to share instead of engaging in petty little wars to satisfy thier ego needs.

Posts: 812Yes maybe he is a good guy but lacks concept of what a border town is all about. Nuevo Laredo is not an island getaway it is a normal border town that many of us enjoy. You won't find a bar lke the Blue Marlin with plenty of hot girls hanging around you will have to cull through and find one that you like. The ability to go to a border town and find a diamond in the rough does not come on your first trip there. Personally I think the passport requirements is the greatest thing in a while because it will eliminate some of the undesirables. In this day and age I would never be without a passport, you never know when you might need it to get the hell out of Obamaland.

He would find me to be totally tolerant of his desires, and I would gladly show him what I know and understand. You never know, he may decide to sleep at the Fiesta. I have my doubts, but then again, only doubts. SERIOUS DOUBTS.
Frank, I do apologize if I come across as arrogant, I am not. I am a realist, come on man, I live here. I was married to a Mexican woman for 22 years. I speak very near native Spanish. Sometimes that is beneficial and sometimes NOT. I can negotiate where others can't, but often I am expected to be more sympathetic. It's sort of a catch 22 situation for me, but I do the best I can.

All the "American" or foreign sounding places plain suck.
If you want some decent Mexican dishes, and I mean decent, but probably not what you want. I am as close to a Mexican as one can get without actually being one, and my ability to eat as they do has me comfortable in places that you would snub.
Fajitas de Carne Adobada, I'm talking good eating. Cabrito (literally little goat) delicious.
A good steak? After almost 2 years I am still looking. American style breakfast? Close but no seegar.
Of course there is always the Churches Fried Chicken, close again but not as expected in USA, AppleBees, sorta close but not there, and various others.
This town has the worst selection of eating joints for an American style eater.
After a while, you either adapt or prepare you own, because home style does not exist here, unless your home style is Mexican food.Last edited by Admin; 02-26-10 at 16:40.

Posts: 812Bro you are going to a border town. There are plenty of good places to eat but with the rate of standards you have etched in your posts, who knows what you will call good. Us that frequent the area have no problem in the local food but since you totally object to what we call sufficient/convienient housing who knows what you will acccept? IMHO the best thing you could do is stay home because you obviously don't want to listen to the advice given by the people who live there and frequent the grounds. You will be very disappointed and will spend more time complainng about your trip than you did asking redundant questions. Go to Costa Rica, there you will find plenty of likeminded people. The border towns are not your game. Sorry for the sarcasm but after you have been there you will say "Beavis was right." Us true mongers have no problem in renting a room at the Fiesta, dragging bar hoes there and enjoying them. You won't follow suit. The Hotel Del Rey is your destiny.

Do forget starting March 1, 2010 the Mexican government is requiring all non-citizens to have a valid passport. So if you were skating on the U.S. side I am sure the Mexican Police will not let you do the same.
Another way to hold you up for money I am sure.
