Agree that the infrastructure in Mexico is not best, as is the case in most third world countries, but I think that the bad water, bad food, lack of sanitation, no heat or hot water in winter, no air conditioning in summer, all of this makes the average Mexican immune to just about everything including Covid-19. The numbers you are seeing may not be accurate. Here is a piece George Carlin did on this a long time ago:

I never thought they would take the quarantine to this level and actually enforce it, I do give them credit for that. I think probably in 7-10 days, they will begin to loosen the restrictions.

Common sense would say that it's going to affect it in a negative way. God bless everyone.

Several cars sent to secondary, we were interrogated a bit more than usual, but not severely, nothing uncomfortable, some questions were asked repeatedly in different manners, I suppose to try and confuse to get a different answer, but the truth is always the truth no matter how they ask.

Crossing back into NL, was nothing really out of the ordinary, as of late, just asked where we were coming from (always say Laredo) and did the temperature scan. Was quicker and easier than entering the USA. We did not know nor were familiar with the Mexican agent, no problems.

Over 2000 people a day still cross the bridge. I have not crossed walking with the new stricter enforcement in effect. But I can tell you that all I did, when the restrictions were first put into place, is to say I live in Nuevo Laredo, and was allowed to pass. I know a dozen or so Americans that have retired here and none of them have had any issue entering. I do carry some proof, I have my rent receipts, I know my address, I have a Telcel phone number. But never was asked to provide any of that. Plus I have crossed so many times I am familiar with many of the people that man the bridges. Before the recent change, change which I doubt really makes any difference, I doubt anyone was denied entry. Personally, I feel with the current situation being as it is, unless you live here, there is not much sense in coming here. Nothing to do, no where to go, no where to eat other than carry out or street vendors.

But today is the first day this is applicable, so we'll need a couple days to see actually what is going to happen. I have heard that they are now very strict on letting Americans in. They want a valid reason for the travel, and that visiting, or shopping or even seeing a dentist or doctor, were not valid. Supposedly that was in effect since Apr 22, but now, beginning today, enforced more strictly. We'll just have to wait and see.

I may cross today, with a friend in a POV, but we both know several Mexican customs agents, they know we live here and generally don't bother us at all. We crossed Wednesday and were pushed right through, they didn't even check our body temps.

There were no issues, but make sure you declare any purchases and now is not the time to be lying or smuggling. They have all the time in the world. Also, now is not time to be screwing around in Laredo.

Going across to buy medicine, is OK, just declare it.
