I have decided to go ahead and make the trip to Monterrey tomorrow (Saturday) like we talked about. I will drive to Laredo from San Antonio and will cross the bridge on foot and take a taxi to Monterrey and stay at a budget hotel and then come back Sunday and will get back to Laredo later that evening and then drive back to San Antonio in my car. That's good to hear you got your vehicle's paperwork in order to drive in Mexico out of the way. I would like to do that myself but I am waiting for my Mexican Voter Card to come in the mail first. As a Mexican citizen, I can use that card as a passport and more when being in Mexico. Once I get that out of the way, I am planning on talking to some international companies that are based out of Austin Texas to see if I can be placed in a job that will allow me to work in Monterrey but get paid here in the USA. That of course is when I would need to utilize a vehicle permit to drive my car in Monterrey. If that does not go through then I will then look for work in McAllen Texas where I could also make use of a vehicle permit to drive from there to Monterrey.

I do go the dentist in Laredo, and was taking the bus, thank god no more buses for me. Was waiting on a document, now I have it and home free to drive to MTY, but as mentioned very careful and leave early in the morning and do not drive a night. The 2.5 hour is well worth, dramatic change especially in San Pedro.

The Hondurans are absolutely no threat downtown, none, zero. I have been here 10+ years, I am not afraid to walk downtown, or outside of the Fiesta. You need to make a trip just to get accustomed to what it is like here now, a mere shell of what it was, but none the less, still exciting on the weekends. Get a feel of how to navigate downtown, you will be surprised how simple it is. Stop watching the news, their stories are one sided and heavily tainted. One thing happens and they blow it up so big it scares people. It is nowhere as bad as they make it out to be. Crime does happen, not downtown, only a complete fool would pull shit downtown, it would be his last.

I am totally down to visit Nuevo Laredo and stay at the Fiesta. I've stayed there a few times but that was about 10 to 15 years ago when our friend the shrimp cocktail vendor had his stand across the Herradura. Yea, I am not sure about me feeling safe in Nuevo Laredo as well. But in Nuevo Laredo it would be different because the fiesta hotel is right smack next to an area where prostitutes are known to walk and I would probably be scared to walk outside, especially if there are Hondurans out there close by. I read an article where the military patrolling there in NL was cutback so the bad guys are taking control of the city. Holding checkpoints and robbing tourists. This may explain that night I left BT to find a checkpoint at the first stoplight right out of the compound. I have never seen anything like that in years.

Yes, military patrol has been cut back, but not entirely. The slack, or some of it anyway, has been picked by the State Policia. My biggest fears here, in the past, were the transito cops, and the city cops, I have been extorted by them several times. City cops are gone now. A few transitos still patrol, but only a threat if you are driving.

Thank you Bbond, I think that by having the option to call an Escort from the massage services and staying at the fiesta hotel really makes a trip to Nuevo Laredo attractive. I have greatly been recovering from my esophagitis so I have many more options to eat a wider variety of foods. I have seen many news videos of Hondurans robbing and killing in Mexico and especially in Piedras Negras. This is a new era of bad guys and hopefully the Mexican government will start to Crack down because so far I have only seen ordinary Mexican citizens having to defend their fellow citizens.
