    Taxis in Nuevo Laredo.

    Bbond,

I have a couple of Taxi related questions. The first, are there new taxis available in NL, with A/C and more professional equipment that tracks fares? I think the name of the cars in Monterrey that are newer are the Nissan Versa. I like those and I feel safe in those. I don't like the Nissan models that have been reused for decades. I mean what is that name of those Nissan cars that used to be sold in the United States like 20 years ago or more? LOL. The next question, and I used to do the 10 years ago in Monterrey. I used to become buddies with the Taxi driver who would be working the hotel I stayed at and I would just ask him to take me on joy rides. I wish I did that in Monterrey because all those places that used to exist in the downtown area are still there but the streets are just now busy with street walkers and graffiti and pimps. That is very intimidating but I wish a taxi driver could have taken me though that and maybe even helped me pick out one of the street walkers. There are so many love motels in Monterrey that I could easily pay one of them 10 to 15 dollars for a couple of hours of room time with a girl. Yea, I wish I could have a taxi just drive me around the downtown area so I can just observe the action and possibly be able to call a girl over and into the car and ride away and all in the same fare. I feel the spirit of the old boys town army running through my veins LOL.

I live about 2 miles from centro, 2 1/2 miles from bridge 2, taxi normally charges me 50 pesos, some times 60. For safety and security, well worth the price. I, personally, would never cross the bridge in a bus, either direction.
Well, I plan on crossing bridge #1. The girls I meet from Tinder are pretty cool. But they know that most people are scared to cross into NL from the USA. I take a steamer which helps me cook a variety of food very easily due to my severe food allergies and I have a translated note from my doctor in case the Mexican immigration staff thinks I am going to sell it. But going through NL into mexico on the bus was really easy. The Mexican bus driver that took over in Mexico was trying to intimidate me a little bit and he was even asking for tips which I didn't think was cool but people do actually tip them. Crossing into the United States was harder cause the US immigration officer was an asshole. But that's life when traveling from San Antonio to Monterrey. A 70 dollar round trip bus ticker is much cheaper than a 400 dollar airplane round trip ticket. I was talking to a girl from Tinder who is very willing to hang out and the hardest question I get from them is why didn't you ever get married or have kids. Personally, I have found life way too complicated in central Texas and I have always been a heavy workaholic. That happens allot here in the USA. Many girls in San Antonio are not getting married or having kids due to career priorities and unfortunately feminism. But many of the dark truths about life in the USA is probably best kept in the USA and away from Mexico. I am excited about my upcoming trip to Nuevo Laredo. I will do Laredo / Nuevo Laredo until I can get enough time off from work to go to Monterrey again, which would be Thanksgiving week or before. I am not sure if I will look for downtown girls at night, that still seems a little risky to me. But hopefully I will get laid. Maybe you can introduce me to a couple of girls Bbond if that's OK.

    Mexican Car Insurance for Weekenders.

I checked with my AAA partner for Mexican insurance and they basically quoted me almost 25 dollars per day so at that price I might aw well just pay for parking on the USA side. Going to mexico is not just a trip, it's an experience. So at this point I do think it's worth going to Mexico through the pedestrian bridge. Especially now that they had added new lanes and hopefully it's faster. I just hope that taxis are reliable but I guess it requires one own personal experience to try them out. I also hope that girls don't mind taking the Taxi on dates. I guess I will be thinking very hard about making the trip to Nueveo Laredo. I am going to Laredo to visit a couple of friends this weekend.

    Cars and buses.

Several bus lines go from NL to MTY and not all are equal, take the more expensive ones, they are less crowded. Greyhound sucks. Coming back from MTY, the selection is not as good, and I don't understand why. Both ways, buses run quite frequently, don't travel at night.
I called my car insurance (AAA) today and asked them if I would be covered if I go into Mexico and they said yes, for at most 25 miles inbound. However, Mexican law requires that one needs Mexican insurance so it only makes sense to buy Mexican insurance if one is driving a USA car into Mexico. I can get it through a partnering company online. But it still adds to the cost of driving in Mexico.

Coming back from Monterrey, I took a special bus where people don't have to get permission to cross into the USA, so that means people with visas, green cards or US citizens cross right through the border without having to fill out lengthy paper work, otherwise buses spend about 3 hours just waiting for everyone's paper work to be processed through immigration.

So going to Nuevo Laredo is still challenging for me do to the transportation issues. Using Uber in Monterrey was really nice. Most of my trips were around 2 dollars while the same trip in the United States would be closer to 8 dollars.

Sorry, I know this isn't the Monterrey forum but the Monterrey forum seems really slow now days.

I have girls in Nuevo Laredo waiting for me now but I haven't had the guts yet to go to Nuevo Laredo. Supposedly it's okay to drive an American car there too.

Border towns have a high auto theft problem, so I assume they were verifying the car was not being stolen. Oh well, guess you have to pay the $16 a day, that sucks.

    Bus to Monterrey.

There were three different lines for different categories: Global Entry, Nexus, etc. But all lines were short and moving fast. At least 6 counters were open. The two female CBPs were HOT.

BBond took me to an awesome Mexican restaurant for lunch. Thanks Buddy.

    Late Report

Sorry for this late and short report. I was in NL two Sundays ago and stayed for two nights. Hung out with BBond most of the time. My favorite got married and moved to Monterrey. She asked me to go to Monterrey to see her but I was not comfortable making the bus trip plus I wouldn't have time anyway. Has anyone tried the bus to Monterrey?

The other talent were not good (maybe it's Monday) so I did not partake.

    Lost Parking Ticket

The bus station remains about the only decent parking, at $16 a day. There are some lots where the old city parking was, not sure of what they charge, but it is close to the $16 a day the bus station parking charges. They even took over the parking at the big round hotel. Parking there is pre-paid, credit / debit accepted, you enter your plate number into the machine, they patrol frequently looking for violators, and install wheel locks on those they find. Some one still needs to try the lost ticket trick at the bus station, stay for more than a day, "lose" ticket, see if total charge is only $16. Can't hurt to try.

I've been to the DR a few times. Santo Domingo, Boca Chica, San Pedro, La Romana, Puerto Plata and Sosua. I feel that the best places to monger in the DR is where mostly locals are and less tourist. It is also more price friendly. More knowledge of Spanish is likely needed and use the local currency. I will be returning to Puerto Plata and Sosua in October.

The story happened in Sosua at the hotel / brothel The Palace. It has been closed for years. I lived in Santiago for a while. I could go back there today and never leave. Never been to the capital. I drove out to San Jose de las matas one time. Got stopped at a military checkpoint and the head official asked why I wasn't drinking a beer to help support their National Brewery. I apologized and promised I would stop at the next store I saw and support the cause. He handed my passport back and said "vaya bien. ".
