Drug violence this week in Matamoros

    The Brownsville Herald
MATAMOROS — Sporadic shooting that began Monday night has killed 25 or more Mexican drug cartel operatives and temporarily forced the closure of two international bridges, according to law enforcement officials south of the border.

The violence continued sporadically Tuesday between the Mexican military and groups of gunmen from both the warring Gulf Cartel and the Zetas, said a Mexican law enforcement official who asked that his name not be used for security reasons.

It remained unclear Tuesday afternoon whether a citywide festival to celebrate Mexican Independence would continue as planned today.

    SPORADIC SHOOTING

Shootouts were reported in various areas in Matamoros, with gunmen at times spraying the streets with bullets and throwing grenades.

Traffic was halted at both the Gateway and B&M international bridges sometime after midnight Monday at the request of the Mexican government, U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Eddie Perez said. The closures lasted about 20 minutes and were described as a precautionary measure.

"As always, CBP’s top priority is the safety of the traveling public and our officers," he said. "CBP is in constant communication with our partners in Mexico, and we continue to monitor any and all situations."

    BATTLING FOR DOMINANCE

This week’s fighting appears to have begun in Ciudad Victoria, the state capital of Tamaulipas, and spread north from there, Mexican law enforcement officials said.

Witnesses have reported sporadic shootouts throughout that city. They also said they had seen banners warning that on Thursday, gunmen will be going after the governor, Eugenio Hernandez Flores.

The nation’s drug cartels have adopted the use of banners to spread messages critical of the government and each other in cities across Mexico.

This latest flare-up comes amid an ongoing dispute between the Gulf Cartel and its former hired assassins, the Zetas. The latter group recently split from their former bosses to become a powerful narcotics syndicate in its own right. The two cartels are now battling for dominance of the lucrative northeastern Mexico smuggling corridor.

    BROWNSVILLE PREPARED

Brownsville police spokesman Eddie Garcia said his department continues to monitor developments in Mexico and is prepared to implement emergency plans if necessary.

Because the gunfire could be heard here, police officials at the University of Texas-Brownsville/Texas Southmost College say they warned students living in campus dormitories to stay in their rooms.

UTB/TSC police spokesman Lt. Armando Pulido said his department had received an advisory Monday night from federal law enforcement officials about a possible incident across the border.

"We have an emergency plan in place, in the event of an immediate threat to our students, faculty and staff," Pulido said Tuesday. "Last night we took steps to communicate that threat to them."

Oscar Olvera, a student at UTB/TSC, said the shooting came too close for comfort this time. He and his girlfriend sought cover when they realized they really were hearing gunfire.

"I was taking my girlfriend to La Estancia apartments and she asked if I heard it,” he said. “And when I paused, I heard machine guns and explosions. It kept on going for five minutes and died down, then came back again for 20 minutes, like, a lot louder and a lot more constant, probably closer."

    Matamoros

i drove across in to matamoros sunday using the new bridge. i turned left at the second light(the first main street past the shopping plaza). i drove down about 1 to 2 miles and on the left hand side there is a motel called "motel parais". this motel is a drive in motel in which you drive straight into your garage and it closes behind you. i love this place. it's very discreet. they do have security. the staff is very friendly. my spanish is very raw and they were able to communicate with me. i paid 220 pesos for 6hrs. that is roughly 17usd. oh, yea, exchange money before crossing over and pick up a mexican newspaper. once i paid the fee and drove in, the staff closed the garage behind me. i walked in to a well cleaned appointed room with soft mexican music playing. i ordered the daily meal special (50 pesos) that includes a soft drink. i sat back and looked in to the personal services ads of the newspaper. i noticed about 15 ads offering services. if you have nextel, this will be your best option. because, the numbers in the post are mexican and nextel walkie talkie numbers. it's a hell of a lot cheaper to use your walkie talkie. you alert the number and wait for a response. they responded back in spanish. i was like um.. um.. que tienes chicas. (i know i know, i'm all the way left.) but, the guy understood. he told me what he had. i told him a lady that does everything and young. i told him where i was. meanwhile, the food arrived in this thing that the person can't see you. the food was good. the lady arrived about 10 minutes later. they asked me to pay up front. i had to pay 800 pesos. i felt that was kinda expensive for 1 hours work. but, in the philippines they call me cheap charlie. hell, in the philippines, you can have a girl for half the price and she will be with you all night. but, anyways, she was 22y/o morena from veracruz. she was hot! she was worth every bit of the hour. she peeled off my clothes and went to work without prompting (bj). she placed on my condom (bring your own condoms) and laid me down. she loved riding me. i loved it too. ha! but we ended up doing it in every position. she would not let me poke her in the pooper.

the hour was up quickly. she cleaned up and jetted. she left me her number before she left. smiles!

    Masajes at Matamoros.

plug in the following numbers, 25.877527,.97.50934 at google maps and zoom in until you get to street view. it's the blue house on vicente guerrero next to the dark orange house being worked on by the painters. google maps puts the address as vicente guerrero 1200, zona centro, heroica matamoros, tamps, mexico. that is just an approximation.

it's a "massage parlor" no signs on the door or elsewhere. usually the ladies hang in the front room that you can see from the street if you just peek in. sometimes they'll call you over from the other side of the metal doors. they they charge 300 pesos a pop but your mileage may vary.

if you do not speak spanish, you may have some difficulties. do not expect anything more than a 6. it appeared to me to be place for locals. this was three months ago.

    Zetas Murder 12 in Matamoros

Is Matamoros safe? I'll let you decide.

    Zetas Murder 12 in Matamoros

July 13, 2010, MATAMOROS, Tamps. - The tortured and bullet riddled bodies of twelve organized crime execution victims were found abandoned on Monday at 10:30 AM on the outskirts of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, in the area known as Las Yescas.

The bodies were located 1 kilometer away from, and within site, of a manned federal customs permanent checkpoint.

According to reports from the state Ministry of Public Security, the 11 men and one woman were not carrying any official identification and have yet to be identified.

Several of the victims wore white t-shirts with the letter “Z” emblazoned on them. The victims were also found in a horrific public display which is a signature of a Los Zetaa multiple homicide against rival cartel members.

It was unknown if a placard or message had been left at the scene by the perpetrators.

Matamoros is the traditional home and stronghold of the CDG (the Gulf Cartel). The CDG and Los Zetas are locked in a bloody war for control of the lucrative “Plazas” (drug trafficking routes) into the state of Texas.

Los Zetas have been regaining strength in recent weeks as witnessed by the ability to strike seemingly at will in CDG territory. In early June of this year Los Zetas carried out another mass execution of 20 rival gang members in Ciudad Madero, a city located in southern Tamaulipas.

Sources in Matamoros speak of an ongoing rural guerrilla war between both cartels in the ranch and farm country of northeastern Tamaulipas. The fighting has been largely unreported and the casualties, rumored to be high, are unknown.

The assassination of the PRI candidate for Governorship of Tamaulipas, Rodolfo Torre Cantu, was allegedly carried out by Los Zetas and was another blow to the CDG. The CDG is thought to hold a high degree of influence and control over the PRI party and state government in Tamaulipas.

In the aftermath of the bloody discovery State Investigative Police, Federal police and staff of the state Attorney General’s office were present at the site to initiate the necessary investigations.

Well I didn't even get to the toll booth on the US side that I was already being hassled by County sheriffs or Brownsville PD crossing into Mexico. They wanted to know if the vehicle was mine, how long I had owned the vehicle, they wanted to see my id, they wanted to see proof of insurance, they asked me to step out of the car and inspected my vehicle. I don't know WTF they were looking for, I'm going into Mexico not coming back. My vehicle is 7 or 8 years old and it's not a Navigator, Escalade or BMW. My tax dollars at work. Those lazy fat ass mofos should be out patrolling the streets and expressways looking for dui's. I guess I don't really mean looking for dui's but other things. Do they do this shit at the other crossings? This is the only crossing that I get asked any of this and it's always at night and its the gateway international bridge.

Well it's only 3 turns and I'm in the hotel parking lot in less than 5 minutes. I was planning on going to Envidia only to get a cab to Circo and then return to Envidia. There was a police car parked between my hotel and Envidia which is only a 2 or 3 minute walk. So I had the hotel call me a cab and got charged 150 pesos to take me there. 30 pesos more than what I would have paid including tip.

About 15-20 girls working in the club. Couple of 8s and a 9. Mostly 6s and 7s. One of my friends and her 2 sisters were still working here. She has a nice rack but has gained weight and colored her hair blonde has braces and pierced her lip. So I downgraded her from an 8 to a 6 or 7. She sat with me for about an hour and did a good job of blocking my view of the stage. It wasn't til about 45 minutes later that I saw the girl I wanted to talk to but she was busy with another customer and I didn't want to wait.

Went outside to get a cab. Meseros do a pretty good job of getting you a good cab price. It was 100 pesos to Envidia. He had a young cute girl in the cab. I had already had 10 mini beers and my vodka (not shy anymore). So I asked if she was his daughter, not wanting to get in any trouble. They said no, just a friend. Ok I asked her if she was working and I don't remember getting a clear answer. When I finally got dropped off at Envidia I told him I was interested in her. He was to come back to the club in about an hour and see if I was busy. He suprised me and did come back. Thank god because the selection and Envidia was horrible. Now I know why I go to TKCh. He said he had the girl in the car, but I needed to go out and bring her in, no problem considering It was getting late and the girls were pretty bad.

We drank for about an hour. She told me she had just turned 18. We drank about 2 or 3 tequila shots along with Bud lights. Went back to the hotel. Life is good. (except I was so drunk I forgot to get a picture of her, damn me.

Didn't see any problems on Mexican side, but I know anything can happen at anytime. So be careful. Went to Reynosa Sat. Pm will put mini report later.
    Hey,

What's up with all the little gangs they have in Matamoros?

Thanks for the updated information on Matamorros, may find myself at Padre this summer. Good to have info on hand so I may visit. Waiting to here about Reynosa as my friend that lives there, says it's fine to visit now. Still a little gun shy about it though.

Officials: Matamoros operation leads to rescue of 17 people

    May 04, 2010 9:44 PM
    THE BROWNSVILLE HERALD

Mexican authorities announced the successful rescue of 17 kidnapping victims — who have family in the United States — from two houses in Matamoros.

According to a press release by the Mexican navy, on Monday morning, marines rescued the victims and also arrested a man accused of guarding one of the two houses, both in the Puerto Rico neighborhood. The operation also resulted in the seizure of approximately 11 pounds of marijuana, as well as an AK-47 assault rifle.

Juan Ponce Ramirez, the alleged guard of the stash house, was turned over to Mexico’s attorney general’s office for further investigation and prosecution, the release stated.

Details of the operation or the block address of the houses were not disclosed by the navy.

The marines arrived at one of the houses, after an intelligence gathering operation by the Mexican navy confirmed that a house in Matamoros was being used as a stash house for a criminal organization and that kidnapping victims were being kept there, the release stated.

When the marines raided the house, they fought with and later arrested Ponce and in the process rescued 11 individuals who stated they were being held for ransom, the navy said.

After the raid on the first house, the marines received information that six other kidnapping victims were being held in a nearby house and rescued them as well.

The majority of the victims have relatives in the U.S. who were being extorted through telephone calls, the release states.

"According to our initial reports, the family members of the kidnapping victims deposited various amounts of money in order to ensure their well-being and what they hoped would be their future release," navy officials said.

As of press time Tuesday night, it couldn’t be officially confirmed if the stash house belonged to the Zeta criminal organization or to the Gulf Cartel.

Things are getting serious guys, just stay awa from the hobby for a while. I know it is easier said than done, but let's not let our little head do our thinking for us. I know Bronwville sucks for us mongers, but we can always patronize the overpaid strippers at Stilettos. That is it for us, as the Japanese SPA is closed since they arrested the owner.

    Chingada madre.

    Club Raided

Decided to go to Matamoros Saturday night and hopefully have a good time. I was a little worried because in the morning my coworkers happened to be talking about all the violence in Mexico and how the streets were under a curfew. I went anyway, what do they know, I go all the time LOL. Called my cab driver early to make sure he was working and to let him know I would be arriving early around 10 or 11pm so I wouldn't have to stand out on the street. I like this cab driver because he can cross me back into the US. This is a plus when you are drunk and don't want to have to explain how you are going to get home to immigration.

Was looking forward to seeing my regulars at Circo. Cab driver told me the only 2 clubs open were Tkch and Envidia. Ok, a little disapointed but I'll go see my regular at Tkch and come home early. Everything went well. Had 2 buckets of mini beers and a full size Bud light. Finished the deed around 1:30 called my taxi, he was already waiting outside. Went to the bathroom and all hell broke loose.

Was met in the bathroom by guys wearing mask and toting big ass machine guns and pistols. Thank goodness I had a buzz cause I was only a little scared. Got hands up against the wall searched and was asked if I had any weapons or drugs about 3 times. I didn't know who these guys were. I have been searched by soldiers and so called security on the streets in boystown but never by masked men. He took my cash out of my pocket and after asking me more questions handed it back to me. I was ushered out of the bathroom and lined up with hands behind my head against the wall with all the other patrons. Ok, I'm thinking there is a paddy wagon outside and I'm going to jail and I don't know why, but I guess you don't need a reason in Mexico. Well after a few minutes they released almost everybody.

My cab was outside. All the vehicles they came in were unmarked. But one was a badass white Escalade. I saw at least one patron handcuffed being taken away. Had I only left 15 minutes early I would have never gone thru this. While we were driving off in the opposite direction about 5 police trucks with flashing lights passed us.

Thank goodness I at least got to finish the deed. That would have really sucked had I not. My cab driver told me they were police looking mostly for weapons. The mask thru me.

Will I ever go back? Probably next Friday. LOL

"That's what I love about these bar girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age. "

Mexico's new passport law takes effect next month

McALLEN, TX — Foreign travelers will have to show a passport when traveling to Mexico’s interior beginning next month.

Travelers destined for Mexico’s border cities, such as Matamoros, Reynosa or Nuevo Progreso, will not need passports to cross.

“If you are just going shopping (along the border) or just to the dentist, you don’t need it,” Miriam Medel said, spokeswoman for the Mexican Consulate in McAllen.

No need to worry the requirement does not apply to us border mongers, nevertheless, I always carry mine as US Customs staff will ask you for it when re-entering the States.

    Passport Neeeded

Do not forget starting March 1, 2010 the Mexican government will reqiure all non-citizens to have a valid passport. Those of you who skated on the U.S. side, I am sure, will not be so lucky if the Mexican police stop you. Another way to hold you up for money.
