Went for it on my three day weekend. Hit the road Thursday afternoon July 2, at at about 5:30 pm, and with rest stops here and there, got to to the Hidalgo Bridge at about 12:30 am.

Leading up to the expedtition, I was told directly that some nasty stuff unfolded recently at Hotel La Villita, and the place should be avoided for the time being. Not sure if specific details on the WWW is a good idea, but just go with it.

Parked my car in the long term lot, and walked across, and got a 50 ps taxi ride to the next closest place, Hotel Bravo at Calle Bravo (N / S), between Calles Aladama and Allende (both E / W) about 4 blocks from the main avenue with the statue. Either 350 or 320 ps, can't remember, it had A / see and hot water, and TV. Freshened up super quick, grabbed my backpack of fun things, and embarked as the token white guy to walk four blocks in Reynosa at 1 in the morning.

Like marriage, the man is just set up to lose in that situation. Felt bad because the traveling into the Interior, at NO POINT was I asked to show my tourist Visa. If I had known that, my buddy with passport issues could've come along and no one would've said anything. Felt even worse when I checked my credit card for the $63 Budget Mex rental car, and instead of that $63 found Budget billing my $78 AND $81, and still no one can answer that.

Please reconsider Hotel LA Villita, there's another place called Hotel Bravo on Calle Bravo, near Calle Bravo and Calle Aldama. I'm about to finish typing this post I've been putting off writing since July 7.

Trying to decide between Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa and can't do both this trip. I haven't been to either in 20 years, since I moved away from Texas. What is the room rate at La Villita? Is there parking inside the Reynosa Boystown compound? Thanks guys.

Not been to either in 20 years, you are in for quite a shock, neither are even a shell of what they were back then. I don't know about the room rates but, yes, plenty of parking inside Reynosa Boystown.

Passport is supposedly required now, a response to the USA requiring passports to enter. I have always used my passport so don't know if that is enforced or not.

I like to use my passport card, instead of my passport. Passport card is cheaper to get also.

He was referring to going to the interior of Mexico, and inquired about requirements to get papers to do that.

CPB says passports required, to enter USA, but State Dept says they cannot refuse entry to any USA citizen, with or without passport.

For person applying for interior travel permit, will they take a drivers license or SS# photocopy?

My issue is ticket cost when I have a functional car, and the schedules I'm able to find, the bus's exit / return times of day don't work well for me.

It used to be you needed your passport or birth certificate or if naturalized a copy or your citizen papers. Bbond would probably know if those requirements have changed. I haven't been to the interior for about 5 years but used to go to Monterrey several times a year.

I would suggest you buy Mexican auto insurance.

The one thing I want to drive in Mexico is 3 d party coverage car insurance. If you get into an accident without insurance, you will sit in jail until liabilities are sorted out. I live in Mexico, but I used to get my insurance from Sanborn's. I believe thay have an office in McAllen.

Guys, I know this is a little off-beat, but do why'all have any guidelines for driving in the interior? Like what to expect / what to do / not do?

Make sure papers are in order, and don't drive in the dark. Even something simple as a flat tire can be extremely dangerous at night time.
