    Prices

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge as to how much the girls are charging at the clubs (Lipsticks, Striptease, Tropicana). I live in the RGV and have been thinking of taking a trip down there. I assume that since business is slow, especially American business/customers, then the prices would be reduced. The incidents of violence seems to have slowed and based on recent reports boystown seems to be ok to go, but if the prices are to high I do not think it is worth the risk. Given the recent history and the fact that this is a third world country I know that there is a risk going there even if the incidents of violence have recently leveled off the last couple of days.

    Thanks

Thanks for the update on this city. I may return there at the end of this month. Good to have a little info before arriving.

I think at least half the door girls or more were working. The first one down from Lipstick looked pretty hot from the cab.

    Reynosa Sat. Night

Quiet, quiet, quiet. Went to Boystown Saturday night. Arrived about 10: 30 pm. Paid 50 pesos to cab and 20 pesos tip. He did warn me that I should not stay too long. He drove me around the compound and there were very few cars. The fewest I have seen in 8+ years of going there.

The newest club is Striptease. It's where the old Lipstick used to be. Clean inside, looks very bare with tile floor. Small stage with a pole in the corner. Only stayed for 1 full size Corona for 35 pesos. I only saw about 5 girls working there. Three of the girls were definitely doable. One girl was 18 or 19 spoke fluent English and said she was from McAllen. I didn't come to look for US girls and there spoiled attitudes. Went to Tropicana to see my regular and she was very wasted. Was going fishing Sunday so I only stayed til about 1 am. It was still very quiet when I left. My other regular at Tropicana now works at Lipstick and she did go by twice to scope it out. I didn't want any drama so I didn't bother going to Lipstick.

My cab coming back got the total inspection by customs. I don't know if they are complete dumbasses. But they asked me twice where I was coming from and twice if I had any luggage. They checked the cab from top to bottom. I asked why I was being profiled, totally pissed off, because this was one of the few times I was not drunk coming back. He said it was not normal for a single male to be coming back from the zona in a cab. Usually groups of guys go over there. What a jackoff. He asked if the cab was taking me home, just told him maybe. I told him I get less hassle coming back from Thailand.

The only problems I had over the weekend were not in Mexico but from the US assholes working at the borders. I should say no problems driving back from the Los Tomates bridge from Matamoros Sat. Morning and no problems walking across the bridge into Reynosa Sat. Night

    Use orbitz fly midweek

Last 3 roundtrips from Harlingen to Bangkok were between 1087. 00 and 1400. 00 total with taxes. Usually depart on Wed or Thur afternoon from Harlingen and arrive Friday or Sat. Night. I like China airlines out of LAX. 1 am or something flight to Tei Pei, Taiwan then off to Bangkok. Continental sucks, but thats their partner airline and how I get to LA. I will be going back in Sept or October. Will start shopping for flights 2-3 months prior. I'm addicted and I don't recommend you go or you might become an addict also. LOL

    Reynosa Calling

Reynosa is calling my name. Anyone know where I can get a bullet proof vest?

    Greetings from Pattaya

No problems here. 1 more day of good mongering.

Both of these girls are about 5'3" with no body fat. Damage about 60 bucks.

    That sucks - big time.

Thanks for the added information and details.

    Very sad.

    I won't be going there.

    Stay away from REX

I live in McAllen and for years, have visited my regular girls at BT, every other week.

There has always been violence in Reynosa. However, before, you knew where the hot spots were and you could avoid getting in trouble by skipping them.

Unfortunately, there’s no safe areas anymore. Violence happens randomly, in nice and bad areas. Anytime of the day.

Many affluent ‘reynosenses’ are relocating to the Texas side of the border. They are selling away their homes and businesses and buying homes here. Any local realtor can tell.

We have no idea when it will be safe again to go to REX.

Enough experience? You have to make the call on that.

I have a friend that lives in Reynosa, he sternly recommends we stay away.
They shoot day and night there, and nowhere is exempt.
Grenades in boys town? Those things are very indiscriminate.

If you want to take a risk in Mexico

    Just take the following precautions:

    1. No Hummers, nice SUV's or Pickup trucks. You are inviting being Jacked. FYI, no 4 wheel drive vehicles at all. Even the crappy ones, they will convert for their purposes.

    2. No cruising.

    3. No traveling between cities during the night.

    4. Hopefully, you don't look like someone they are looking for.

    5. Don't look too wealthy since Kidnapping is on the increase.

    6. Don't go anywhere near a Police Station or a Military base or patrol (military or police). They are now ambushing Squad Level patrols.

I wish I could be more upbeat but even the Mexicans are scared.

Get a TLN and pick up her up early.

    Situation in Reynosa

According to Mexican government statistics, 161 people were murdered between February 1 and April 5 in Tamaulipas. If this rate continued throughout the year, somewhere over 1,800 murders would take place in Tamaulipas this year. That’s one and a half times as many as in Texas, which has ten times the population (and, presumably, is a place where most crimes are reported).

Cartels are openly running checkpoints on the major highways leading into and out of the city.

There are no tourists. Well, almost none. I did meet a brave Canadian couple, Winter Texans, eating at the best taqueria in Reynosa on a bright sunny day in late March.

During Semana Santa, 25 people were killed in and around Reynosa.

Two of those killed were children, ages 5 and 9. They were murdered in a car on the way to the beach east of Matamoros.

At least eight journalists have been kidnapped in Reynosa in 2010, and at least one, radio personality Jorge Rabago, was killed. El Manana reporter Miguel Angel Dominguez Zamora has also been missing since March 1, which is around the time when I first started noticing that the Reynosa daily El Manana had stopped reporting drug violence in the city.

There was a time when I used to go to the Stripes convenience store near my house in the morning to buy an El Manana. I would sit and read it with a piece of pan dulce to find out what was going on en el otro lado. But now, if I go at all, I pick up a Monitor, even though they don’t send their reporters across the border any more.

Which is why Ciro Gomez Leyva, the news director at El Milenio TV (where a reporter and cameraman were abducted, beaten up, and released with a warning in Reynosa) flatly declares “journalism is dead in Reynosa.”
