my buddies and i spent sunday night in mexicali. we parked at aa parking and walked across. we arrived at 5:45p and made a straight march to try out the golden china restaurant. i've heard a lot of good things about the food and and the beauty of the place. ok, beauty may be a stretch, but for mexicali standards it was very nice. as we entered, we met the owner. being chinese myself, we hit it off right away and were treated very well. being our first visit, i asked for a recommendation for three seafood dishes. he said that he would make up some of their specialties and bring them out to us. in the meantime, he served us some sweet fruit drink that was infused with green tea. the food was great! our first dish was fried shrimp wrapped in bacon. it was served with onions, red & yellow bell peppers and asparagus. our second dish was a fried fish filets that was accompanied by a soy sauce, cilantro & green onion sauce and decorated with twisted slices of oranges. the last dish was a steamed fish served over a mixture of chinese vegetables. everything was very delicious. along with the drink and two beers, the bill came to $58 usd. a bit pricier than i expected, but specialty foods tend to be that way.

after dinner, we checked into hotel chinesca. the hotel has a real asian feel to it. it reminded me of some places i've seen in china and hong kong and in old kung-fu movies. the room for 2 beds was $46. fairly priced. the room was small and the shower / bath was not very modern. the water temperature never got higher than room temperature, so it made the morning shower a bit uncomfortable. it has a window a / c unit and a small tv inside, along with a shelf with a few drawers. the cheap spring mattresses were on pedistals and were not very comfortable. we didn't plan on bring girls back and sleeping should not be bad, as we're planning on passing out after a night of drinking. overall, a fair value for $46 and we felt safe there.

we spent most of the night just bar hopping and munching on street tacos. we visited every bar along the zone, even the local bars. there wasn't any particular girls that really stood out so my review of the evening is going to be short. we spent most of our time at miau-miau. my two buddies both got cbj for $600 pesos each. it's been awhile for me and for some reason, $600p seemed a bit high, so i passed. price for fs was $1250p, which also seemed high. we all passed on this one.

i noticed that there wasn't much street action. my favorite bar (sportsbar 624) seemed to change to a regular bar. the stage was gone and no girls were present each time i walked in that night. surprisingly, the playboy club (my least favorite) had some decent action! there were several really cute girls there. the ficha drinks were only $6. 00usd, so it was cheap to keep the girls around. i found a slender girls with a nice round ass and average perky boobs. i asked the waiter the price for a bj and he said $800p! what? he said, $600p for the girls and $200p for the house. if i wanted fs, then it's $1000p total. huh. fs was cheaper than miau-miau but the bj was way more. i passed on them both. later he came back and offered $800p for fs. now, i probably should have jumped all over that but i passed (sorta regretting it now). more drinking and 10 tacos later, we headed back to the hotel at 3am.

we noticed a lot street action out past 3am. then, i noticed that those girls were actually boys. some of these trannys were actually quite beautiful! shocking! there was one that looked like a blonde jennifer aniston. luckily, i only had 9 beers in me. had i had 12, i might have awoken with a dude in my bed, then end up all curled up in the corner of a hot shower, sucking my thumb in a shameful (yet therapeutic) way.

i can only assume that the at the end of the day, when the bars shut down, whichever guy is with a girl, probably propositions her back to their place. thus, leaving all the trannys to solicit the gay bar patrons that also close at the same time.

btw: i searched for the "las vegas" club or hotel and found noting.

Be careful with AA Parking. You are better off parking at Wal Mart and taking a cab to the border IMO. I had things stolen out of my car and AA didn't seem to care. I got stuck having to go to the police dept late at night to report it. I have parked at Wal Mart and lext my car over night hundreds of times with ZERO problems.

I've used AA Parking twice now. They are convenient and inexpensive@$3. 00 / day. I have not had any issues and I drive a soft top Jeep. Common sense must prevail. Hide your crap. Lock valuables in the trunk and lock your glove box.

Finally after haning out there for about 45 minutes Alicia comes out. Alicia was a very attractive lady 22 years old. I have never made it to Bar San Diego or El Establo because I do not drive in Mexicali. I park in the AA Parking on the American side and walk in. I do not like having to buy Mexican auto insurance and dealing with crooked Mexican cops that will see my car with my Arizona license plate and seeing me as a gringo to take advantage of (My car is a newer car and it is a sporty, flashy looking car, it has the word GRINGO written all over it. LOL). Also since I do not speak spanish I am afraid if there is some sign telling me to slow down or something I would not know and I could get in an accident or have instant policia problems. Also, since I do not speak Spanish I am afraid I would be able to get a cab to get me to El Establo or Bar San Diego but I would not be able to get one to take me back since I can not call the cab company to come pick me up. And from what I understand, cab drivers in Mexico are notorious for ripping you off and doing scams. In fact, if anyone knows of solutions to all my concerns I would be interested in knowing. I would like to go to BSD sometime if I can get beyond the transportation issue.

I have verizon with their plus mexico plan or whatever its called. Calls I make to mexico from the US, as well as calls I receive from Mexico all count towards my regular minutes. I always have a signal down there. I haven't ever lost signal but of course I stay close to the border usually. Algodones, Mexicali and San Luis. Texts will cost per text to MX from the US, or vice versa. It's a great plan.

Man, it's been a while since I've been reading the reviews. Life's been busy and $$$'s been tight. My buddy and I are heading to Mexicali this Sunday and plan on staying overnight. So we went around the corner and stuck our heads into Playboy Club, nothing much there, walked up and down the street where Playboy is located, I think it is Ave. ZuaZua I was approached by a pretty hot looking 40 year old but I really didn't want to do the cheap hotel kind of thing so I passed again.

I noticed that there were some Trannys on this street so do be careful if you check this area, depending on what you like. They were congregated at the doorway of the Hotel Las Vegas. Which is just a few doors west of the Playboy Club. Interestingly enough they were the hottest best dressed, best looking "chicks" I had seen all night. Of well so it goes.

Your friend was probably referring to Hotel Las Vegas. Rico Cafe says it's somewhere around the Playboy Club, which is in the zone. Check out 2nd Chance's google map for location of the zone, and Playboy Club. I searched Google Earth, but I couldn't find Hotel Las Vegas. If you ask at Playboy Club where this Hotel Las Vegas is, they would probably know. Watch out for Trannys in this area. Ahem, uh how much tequila had your friend had? All you have to do is ask one of the waiters to call you a cab and it will be taken care of. Castillo speaks perfect English and I believe that Mike would understand the word "taxi" because it is the same word in Spanish. I hope someday we are in Mexicali together and I will be able to be your guide in my car.

Too bad about your experience Joe. I am sure that Pedrito will clear things up. I have also spent much money in El Establo and never had a problem. I like the party atmosphere there. I hope this is an isolated incident. I hope that maybe we can all show Tempe Jon the ropes of Mexicali sometime I also live in Phoenix but only for another 15 months. Then Ensenada. I have not been mongering much because of having to deal with a very bad foot and finishing my home in Ensenada. Surgery on my foot on the 21st of Sept. Maybe in a couple of months we can all get together and go to Mexicali.

I was in Mexicali last night and had a very bad experience at El Establo. After spending thousands of dollars as a regular customer over the past 10 years at El Establo, they have probably lost me as a customer. I was in Mexicali last night and got to El Establo at about 2 AM. I chatted with a few of the regular gals and picked Rachel, a fairly new gal there. It was the worst experience of my life. I booked her for an hour and when we started to do our thing she fell aspleep. I kept waking her up and tried to get things going again but she kept falling asleep. I put my clothes on and left the room and asked to speak to the manager. I speak Spanish very very well so there was no language barrier at all. I waited for about 45 minutes while the manager kept ignoring me. Finally he talked to me and I explained the situation and demanded a refund of my money. He looked at his watch and told me that my hour has just run out and refused to return my money or give me another provider. El Establo is different than the other places where you negotiate the services directly with the muchacha. At El Establo, they have set prices including the price of the room that you pay directly to them. They pay the girl at the end of her shift for her services. I asked to speak to Pedrito (the owner's son who is usually on premises to oversee the operations). I was told that Pedrito had gone home. I knew this to be true as he usually leaves at about 3 AM. We have known each other for years. The next time I am in Mexicali, I will have a long talk with Pedrito to tell him that his pinche manager is not treating his customers correctly. He knows how much money that I have spent there over the years and if he does not square this deal. NO MORE EL ESTABLO FOR ME.

My Droid X with Verizon works perfect in Mexicali and it is a 3G not a 4G. I have been using Verizon cell phones in Mexicali for over 10 years with no problem. AT&T does not own Telcel. It is owned by Carlos Slim, a Mexican who is the richest man in the world. Telcel has mutual operating agreements with all of the American cell phone companies to roam on their cells in Mexico. And I guarantee you that Telcel is alive and well in Los Algadones. I have the Verizon plan known as Nationwide plus Mexico. I can call the US from Mexico or Mexico from the US with no long distance charges and I can roam on the Telcel system in Mexico with no roaming charges. This plan saves me at least $200 per month as I am in Mexico a lot and call the US from Mexico and Mexico from the US a lot. For my Smart Phone I have the Verizon International data plan which allows me to use my smart phone for data while roaming in Mexico. It is about $30 extra per month.

I checked and found that you are right about the using of the 3G Verizon's in Mexico. I was basing my earlier statements on when I went to Europe and was told that only the United States used CDMA technology so CDMA phones won't work other places. I did some more research after your post and I found that Mexico does have a very small CDMA network that serves only the bigger major cities in Mexico which I would guess Mexicali would be included. I guess Mexico does have a little bit of CDMA coverage but not very much. From what I read the CDMA plans will only work in the bigger cities of Mexico so I would still say that if you plan on doing a lot of travelling in Mexico to many different Mexican cities that a GSM phone would be better as there would be a lot more coverage. And if you ever decide to monger in Europe you would need GSM anyway so I personally would go with either AT&T or T-Mobile or get one of the Verizon 4G phones so that way you can be prepared to monger anywhere in the world!

AT&T does NOT own Telcel, América Móvil (Carlos Slim) does. Carlos Slim, depending on where you read, is one of the two richest men in the world.

Until very recently I used AT&T, but whenever I went on roaming to Telcel my bills skyrocketed.

All I can tell you is that when I called AT&T Wireless Internation Customer Service the customer service rep told me on the phone that AT&T owns Telcel. This is what I was going by when I said that. Maybe the AT&T International Customer Service Rep is full of sh*t???,,,,LOL
