The bus isn't an option because I'm fairly tall and the last time I took the greyhound a year or two ago, my knees were stiff from the lack of legroom. I will research a car rental and see if it makes financial sense (either from Austin or rent from Nuevo Laredo).

Regarding Seeking / twitter / etc. I've been deceived so many times with fake photos etc during my years in California, that I ended up deleting all the dating apps. The convenience of going to HK or any of the bars in Tijuana, grabbing a drink, and being able to scope out the chicks and then approach and start talking to them in less than 15 minutes was a game changer. No more swipe apps. No more fake profiles. None of that sh* So moving on, when I'm in Tijuana, and I scope out a chick, we talk for a bit and drink together, then it naturally leads to the hotel upstairs. How does that translate in the world of Seeking? Do you match with a girl and then invite her to the hotel, or is dinner / drinks beforehand expected? Seeking sounds like it would be ideal for me because I prefer the non-pro women. I meet the girls either for a coffee, a drink or lunch. If it goes well I go up to the room. I have started staying at the NH again, I worked out a deal with management suite, but I am very careful bring the girls up. I rotate between Hotel and Airbnb, I do not want to burn bridges, I have good relations at all the places I'm staying.

Yes, all passengers exit bus when crossing into Nuevo Laredo. Collect all carry-on and checked luggage. All foreign passengers are issued a (free) permit. Reload luggage. Total process takes a lightning quick 20 minutes.

(Same process when re-entering Texas takes 30-35 minutes).

Yes, the hotel is an issue now. I would not do Airbnb, until you know girls. They won't come over at first Airbnb. More complicated, but you can do it.

Options to avoid 400 usd (ouch! From SAT-MTY here are my Austin input. 1.) Greyhound from Austin leaves 4 pm arrives MTY 1 am, with someone else driving that 9 hours breezes by. 2.) Drive to Laredo and park and take a OmniBus or Noreste Bus rest of way to MTY. Both brands have frequent departures.

I personally DO NOT take my personal car to MTY due to hassles and fees of obtaining temp permit to drive into central Mexico. Once my bus arrives Uber is abundant and dirt cheap to get any where. Some ISGers may challenge me on this. Another heads up, if parking in Laredo, find a friend because the official Bridge parking is 15 usd / day (super ouch! McAllen only charges 7 day.

I drive all the times. You can read the posts on Laredo and MTY. If you have any questions let me know. Word of caution your paperwork has to be perfect or they will turn you away at the check point between Laredo and MTY.

Yes, 6 hours if you have no issues at the border or traffic between SA and Austin.

I'm new to this forum, looking for advice. I lived in LA for 5 years and made frequent trips to Tijuana and made great memories. About two years ago, I relocated to Austin Texas for work. Unfortunately, the Mexican border towns here don't compare to Tijuana. I flew down to MTY last October (this was before covid), and although the bar scene didn't have anything like HK or Adelitas, there were still a good number of bars and I met some beautiful latinas. I did my best to quarantine these last 9 months and sit at home and slave away at work from my living room and I now need a break. I have a few weeks of vacation coming up and want to go back to MTY. Last year when I flew there, I drove from Austin to San Antonio and took a direct flight from there with the airline Interjet, and it was about $150 round trip. I took a look at flights right now and it appears that the only direct flight these days from San Antonio is with VivaAerobus and its $400 round trip, wow! I also checked google maps and it would take 6 hours to drive from Austin to MTY, but I'm not sure how I feel regarding the safety of driving my car into Mexico. Also, based on the last few pages of reports here, it appears that the covid situation in MTY is as bad as Texas, with bars / etc being closed early. How are you guys meeting women without bars? Are you relying on apps? I haven't used tinder since I discovered Tijuana years ago, and I had to google and research Seeking because I hadn't heard of it before joining this forum. The worst parts about Rio are lots of filthy, skanky, homeless vagrants and beggars hang out everywhere, even around the ritzy tourist hotels, families with kids sleeping on sidewalks in the rain and sidewalks full of dog shit smelling bad everywhere. You just cannot walk on sidewalks without stepping on dog shit and human shit. It was disgusting for me.

One dark rainy night I walked out of hotel Copacabana to an internet cafe right behind the hotel. Even I was very careful and aware of the surrounding, one of those vagrants came out of nowhere in the dark, grabbed me, mumbling threats, trying to get into my pockets. I got so angry, knocked his arms out, shoved him off, ran away to a police booth nearby and reported the crime. They sent a police car driving me around, shinning spot light on the dark streets looking for him, but of course the guy disappeared.

There were news then of tourists robbed, kidnapped, raped and murdered on the way in from Rio airport. Even in quiet and beautiful Foz do Iquacu, hotel clerks warned me not to walk around alone even in day time on main streets, as choclos were likely to pull knives and take my wallet.

I could not believe how real bad it was and at that time I was living in Houston an extremely dangerous place. Rio was worse and so depressing.

I am so happy I found MTY, the city continuous to beat my expectations. The girls I am meeting are just awesome in all aspects.
