The worst parts about Rio are lots of filthy, skanky, homeless vagrants and beggars hang out everywhere, even around the ritzy tourist hotels, families with kids sleeping on sidewalks in the rain and sidewalks full of dog shit smelling bad everywhere. You just cannot walk on sidewalks without stepping on dog shit and human shit. It was disgusting for me.
One dark rainy night I walked out of hotel Copacabana to an internet cafe right behind the hotel. Even I was very careful and aware of the surrounding, one of those vagrants came out of nowhere in the dark, grabbed me, mumbling threats, trying to get into my pockets. I got so angry, knocked his arms out, shoved him off, ran away to a police booth nearby and reported the crime. They sent a police car driving me around, shinning spot light on the dark streets looking for him, but of course the guy disappeared.
There were news then of tourists robbed, kidnapped, raped and murdered on the way in from Rio airport. Even in quiet and beautiful Foz do Iquacu, hotel clerks warned me not to walk around alone even in day time on main streets, as choclos were likely to pull knives and take my wallet.

Posts: 6523Mexico vs. Rio de Janeiro
Got to agree with Drama on this one.
Rio is a filthy city, ridden with crimes, garbage everywhere; the bay is severely polluted with sewage, smells like fresh feces all the way on top of Sugar Loaf. Many homeless families with kids sleeping on Copacobana's sidewalks in the pouring rain. The people are rough, hardened, uncaring. The biggest draw then was Help disco with hundreds girls every night, but was shutdown long ago. Now there are only a few pick up bars scattered all over the city. Overall girls in Mexico are better-looking, nice, clean, healthy, happy.
There were a couple dozen girls, including tall trannies, aggressive selling sex on Blvd Atlantica, but it was hard to find good -looking girls. I picked up a pretty hot girl from Barabrella, took her back to my apartment. She looked pretty good but the sex was pure commercial, no expressions, feelings, fun or joy. At the end she tried to extort me for more money, yelling, screaming. I had to push her out of the door and called security to evict her. She was screaming her head off down on the street, threatened to call policia hehe. The people are rough and mean everywhere.
I did pop a tall, very beautiful blonde with buttery-soft light skin in a thermae. She was just about a perfect female specimen. We were having sex in a tiny room, more like a box, including my first anal experience, nothing special. I did not like to sit around in a small, humid room, under bright flat lights with half dozen girls and a dozen naked old guys with just towels around their hips. Brazilians and Portuguese are very rough and direct, no nonsense peoples, no such thing as a romance with them.
Met an American porn producer who promised to set me up with all Victoria Secrets lingerie models he worked with. Also met a bro from Washington DC with lots of experiences in Rio. He was a real nice and helpful guy with relatives in Rio, a real gentleman and a perfect bro to know on the road. He said he was working for the Federal government. He took time to show me around and coached them how to stay safe and alive in Rio. If a Rio veteran is that scared of everything in Rio then the noobs should be scared shitless and best stay the fuck away from Rio. Will try to find this bro again, hopefully show him the good selection of hot girls in Tijuana now that Rio is shut down for travelers.
I had a very good time vacationing in Foz do Iquacu, a nice, clean, green tropical paradise with lots of hot girls, locals and tourists, recommended.

Posts: 764More Good News for Monterrey
The COVID "stoplight" map was released yesterday (Friday 6 November). Nuevo Leon will remain at the "orange stoplight" for the next two weeks:
https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/cor...-to-high-risk/
At this point, I have every intention of taking my trip to Monterrey. I leave in a few days, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for any last minute posts. Thanks to everyone who have regularly injected fresh information here. Look for my trip report around Thanksgiving, give or take a couple of days either side.

Posts: 764Monterrey Breaking (Good?) News
Searching "Nuevo Leon COVID Restricciones" on Google, I discovered the following article, which appears to have been published early this (Thursday) afternoon:
https://www.razon.com.mx/estados/alz...cciones-411562
For those of you wondering what "Buen Fin" is, here is a link to the description on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Bue...of%20 November
Bottom line is, from November 9 through 20, it appears that Monterrey will maintain status quo and allow businesses to remain open with 30 percent capacity (in other words, no widespread lockdown). If this is the case, then I will take my upcoming trip to Monterrey. I'll still be closely watching what the "COVID stoplight" will be for Nuevo Leon when it is updated this coming Friday.
I'll let you guys read the articles I posted and see if you come up with a different interpretation.

Posts: 1316"Thoughts, guys?" at Quagmire1974: I don't really get why rush into a place at the worst time possible when you can't enjoy the atmosphere etc? Rio has opened beaches and discos etc, - just an example. Mexico in on my radar however I am going to wait until things clear; there is no way I wear any mask anywhere.

Posts: 764Changes in Nuevo Leon and Monterrey
As DramaFree11 alluded to a few days ago, a worsening COVID situation has resulted in changes in Nuevo Leon and, more specifically, Monterrey. Here is a link that I posted in this forum on October 26, which is the same day the following article was published online:
https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/cor...virus-ranking/
Using Google, I searched for "Nuevo Leon COVID Restricciones. " When the results popped up, I clicked on the "News" tab and found a whole bunch of current information. If you're using the Google Chrome browser, the articles automatically translate into English.
This article mentions that anyone on the streets of Monterrey without a face mask will be arrested and fined. The edict applies to both locals and foreigners:
https://www.proceso.com.mx/nacional/...es-251805.html
This article verifies what DramaFree11 said, that restaurants must close by 10 pm, with shopping centers, museums, cinemas, and casinos also having to close at that time. Maximum capacity in those establishments must be reduced from 50 percent to 30 percent:
https://www.milenio.com/ciencia-y-sa...taurantes-leon
This article mentions that Durango has now joined Chihuahua in returning to the COVID "red stoplight. " Nuevo Leon is specifically mentioned early in the article:
https://www.xataka.com.mx/medicina-y...s-restringidas
This article mentions that Mexico City may slip back into the COVID "red stoplight" and that the "stoplight map" will be updated this Friday November 6:
https://www.xataka.com.mx/medicina-y...an-casos-covid
Previously in this forum, I said:

At this point, my biggest concern is my hotel. If Monterrey regresses from the "orange" to the "red" stoplight and hotels are forced to reduce capacity, I'm worried about my hotel reservation being canceled. I actually sent my hotel an e-mail a few days ago expressing this concern and have heard nothing back.
So what do you guys think? At this point, I'm desperate to get on an airplane and fly to a country that isn't mine and sleep in a bed that isn't mine just to have a change of pace. I honestly believe that I can pull off this trip since, again, the spas probably won't close and the Twitter WGs aren't going to stop riding cock. Hell, this is probably THE time to visit Monterrey since some of those premiere Twitter WGs are actually attainable with greater ease due to less customers.
Thoughts, guys?
