Miller is an expert about strip club. You can go back reread his reports. When I was in Morelia last time, Manhattan had the bigger and better selection of girls. I would range all between 7-10. yes, Jessica is back in business. She said that she just needed a break, but now she's back...and, yes, still a hottie.

I survived here for 6 months or so with a little over 8 thousand, but I lived rent-free in a family home and I live in a smaller town where there is a lower cost of living. You might need more cash or have a shorter stay. The more favorable exchange rate will give you more pesos for the dollar, though. To help you out, I'm including an itemized list of monthly expenses. Of course, YMMV:

Electricity: 30-40 (US)
Telephone: 30-50 (US) depending on how many calls
Gas: 15-20 (US) you buy gas by the tank and one tank
will usually last 6-9 weeks, depending
on how much you cook.
Internet: 17-20 (US) for Prodigy service
Satellite dish: 60-65 (US) for complete package.
Cable: 17-20 (US) in case you don't want to buy a dish.
(Where I live, we only have 2
stations)
Food: 200-300 (US) This includes other grocery store
items like soap and shampoo.
(Also, this can increase or decrease
depending on how much you eat out)
Rent: 136-450 (US) This category will vary greatly

Also, take into account that you will have many misc. expenses (not to mention the GIRLS!!!). It's very easy to spend pesos and your money will disappear very quickly if you don't watch yourself (I went to a local carnival earlier today with my girlfriend and I spent about 1,000 pesos in less than 3 hours. It doesn't sound like much, but take into acount that the average worker makes about 700 pesos a week)

It's possible to live here for an extended amount of time on 7-10 grand, but you will need to make some sacrifices and live within a strict budget and/or have a source of income in Mexico while you live there.

Where did you meet the 19 yr-old? How did you meet her? I have another friend who is thinking of making the move and I'd like to pass the info to him.

anyway, i was visiting morelia recently for a latin american film festival (by the way, salma hayek was here) with my girlfriend and i ran across an old "friend" from the elegance escort agency. her name was jessica and i wrote about her in a previous post (supertomcat: yes, it's the jessica). well, she told me that she had come out of retirement and was back working at elegance. she gave me some info about some recent happenings in morelia:

apparently, the police have been cracking down on the agencies because they suspected many **** girls were being employed. so, the cops have been shaking down the girls and the agencies. prostitution is legal, but they are still pretty shook up with all the police attention. the agencies have been really careful lately about answering the calls. don't think that they are being rude, they're just a little worried. the night before i met jessica, the authorities had carted in all of the working girls at elegance and the phone operator, looking for information about ****d girls. they weren't in danger of being arrested, but nobody wants to be detained and questioned by a bunch of horny cops all night. so, if you call an escort, you might want to stay away from asking for "young women". that might make them think that you are setting them up for a sting. this will all blow over eventually, but for now you might want to be a little understanding about any unusually cold attitude in the usually very friendly morelia.

Hello All....

Sorry that I haven't been able to report for a while. Right now, I'm retired from mongering due to the fact that I have a very cute girlfriend and she keeps me too satisfied to even think about "out sourcing."

In any case, I went with a few friends Saturday to cruise the strip clubs. I guess you could say that they "forced" me...

Here's the report:

I went to 2 clubs Saturday night, Manhattan and Exesso. The first place I went to was "Manhattan".

Manhattan had, by far, the bigger and better selection of girls. Some were absolutely unbelievable. I would range all between 8-10. I invited a girl for a drink and later we had a private dance whch was hot as hell. She gave me a BJ through my pants!!...the suction on that girl was unbelievable!! She offered 15 minutes of full-service for 700 pesos, but she immediately dropped the price to 500. I politely declined, but I was having second thoughts the whole night. In any case, the club was very nice and the girls were extremely friendly for the most part. I don't know how many offered "extras", but the "boletero" (the guy in charge of arranging everything) told me that most were available.

After Manhattan, we went to "Exesso". The quality of Exesso has gone down quite a bit and there were about half as many girls as there were in Manhattan. Also, the girls weren't of the same quality. They weren't ugly, just not as perfect. I didn't have any private dances there, so I don't know if things have changed since my last post about Exesso. It was a nice place, but a bit of a let down when compared to Manhattan. These things run in cycles, though, and in 6 months there might be another hot spot that's better than them all.

The prices in both places were the same:

*Cover Charge: 30 pesos
*Girl's Drink : 75 pesos (single), 150 pesos (double)
*Private Dance for 1 song: 140 pesos
*"Sexy" Private Dance for 15 minutes: 700 pesos (but highly
negotiable)

I Recommend that you buy a bottle instead of buying by the drink. It'll save you money and prevent the constant, "Can I get you another?" interruptions by the waiters. Bottles range from 375 pesos to 2000. Buy a single drink first to see if you like the place and then buy the bottle when you decide to stay.

All in all, the bill for our party of 4, including 4 girls drinks, was $1240 pesos. Add in the 140 that I spent on the private dance, and my share came to about 400 pesos (aprox. $40 US. Try beating that for 3.5 hours in an American strip club)

Sorry to say, SuperTomcat, but I think your taxista took you for a ride so to speak. Either that, or the club jacked things up when they saw you didn't speak Spanish.

Yes, I'm still teaching English and business is as good as usual. I make between 10,000 and 11,000 a month and that's more than enough to live a very comfortable, upper-middle class life. At times the demand for my services is so high that I have a waiting list. I live in a relatively small town and I'm the only "Gringo" in town, so that may explain my good fortune. A bigger city might have more competition. I also make side money with legal translations. In the past months I've helped with migration documents and even a divorce. I translate everything and then download any legal documents that the person here doesn't have. A lawyer here would charge between 1500 and 3000, but I only charge 500 or I've also accepted trades. In addition to the classes and the translations I also load up on electronics and clothing from the US every so often and return here to sell things at a big discount. Anything American sells big time here and the electronics are so outrageously expensive that I can charge double what I payed for the item and it is still about a 40% discount. (A regular, no-frills Sony Discman can cost more than 1200 pesos: I buy for 30 bucks, sell it for 70 and the people still save about 400 pesos here.) Opportunities are wide open, but my classes keep me so busy that I just don't have time.

I live a good life here with an internet connection, satellite dish (so I can see my beloved Chicago Cubs break my heart again), and enough extra money to go mongering and take trips to Las Vegas and Chicago every year. And remember, when I came here I only had 8000 dollars with me.

A little over a year ago you posted that you were teaching English as your primary job there. Is that still your deal? How's the income these days? I don't mean to pry and you can refuse to answer, but I am having renewed dreams of moving down there in a couple of years with some savings and doing the same thing you're doing. (I say "a couple of years" so I can build up the savings and close out some other obligations I have.)

I can personally vouch for comunidaddelamor.match.com (the website mentioned a couple of posts ago). It used to be on Yupi.com but got bought out, so the prices went up. Still, it has been a good experience for me (age 28). I have met one girl in person in Mexico, 2 in the US, and gotten literally hundreds of unsolicited messages from around the latin world. It can be harder if you want to find someone from a specific city because then you are depending on a more limited pool of resources to draw from, but the chances are still there.

TJ...I thought that you were talking about getting a non-pro Mexican woman to be a travel companion. THAT would be just about impossible. (Sometimes it takes a handful of dates before you can even go out together alone) Finding a pro to go with you will still be very difficult, but to paraphrase Cupido: do some interviewing with the pros and see who is sans kids and responsibilities.

With regards to the language barrier: I came to Mexico with a Spanish vocabulary of about 40 words and no sense of Spanish grammar and within a 2 weeks, I had a girlfriend and a couple who wanted to be with me. They thought it was charming when I tried to pronounce Spanish words. Their favorite thing was to have me say something in English. Eventually, I learned from them and from watching Spanish soap operas. My college degree is in linguistics and communication so maybe that made it easier for me to assimilate, but it's a big help to just immerse yourself in the language. Classes are great, but you'll find a difference between formal Spanish and the way people talk to one another on the street. Learning Mexican slang and "modismos" makes it easier to communicate and it also helps a great deal with your mongering...

Being an American is a huge asset when it comes to getting a girlfriend (Especially in a smaller town where not many "Gringos" ever even visit). The only times that I've been without a girlfriend are when I've chosen to be without one. (and if you could se me, you'd know that I'm not exactly a Brad Pitt look alike)Remember, though, you MUST be a gentleman and many of the rules of dating remind one of 19th century customs. Open doors, pull out chairs, no sex talk, hand holding only after a certain number of dates, etc...It's fun, but it does become hard work after a while. However, as I've said before, it's all worth the effort.

By the way, you may want to try a dating service in Mexico to make some contacts. Try Match.com's Mexico section. Personally, I can't vouch for the quality, but it might be a good place to start. Meanwhile, I'll snoop around and see if there's a local service here that might benefit you.

As Miller2k said, there are so many older man date with younger women. Age is not a issue. If you look for a overnight girl, it will take some time. The price range around $1500-2000. You need ask them at your first date. My friend, a cab driver who speak decent English, showed me around Morelia. He will charge you $8USD/hr.
