On Halloween night, I took an impromptu trip to Nogales. Hopped onto kayak and found a room at the Fray for $50, booked it, and headed down. 3-ish hours later, around 11 pm, I walk across the border and through the quite lively street scene to the Fray. Where they tell me they have no rooms, they're totally full. I've just driven three hours and I'm screwed. They explain to me that they are frequently exasperated with these two services -- Agoda and Booking -- because they confirm reservations with the end-customer before verifying with the hotel that there are actually rooms available. This was Halloween night and the streets were pretty packed, and they had nothing. Major props to the girl at the front desk, who busted her hump to make arrangements for me, called the manager, and they actually ended up bumping someone else's reservation to give me a room.

But that was luck on my part. Never book with these guys, or else you may end up high and dry when you get there!

I *finally* got my Global Entry interview scheduled for next Tuesday; I was about two weeks out from it before they closed down all the interviews for months due to COVID. I'm waiting until I get my card to return to Nogales. Being able to breeze back through will definitely lead to me visiting more frequently!

I parked in the UETA Duty Free store lot. It's $5 for every 12 hours. Just pay the guy in the little shack. I'm glad it's monitored even if it's just to prevent people from trying to get free parking. I assume at night they lock the perimeter fencing until the store reopens in the morning. Crossing into Sonora by foot was the same as pre-Covid as in no questions asked or request to see a passport. Just lay your bag on the x-ray machine belt, retrieve it when it comes out, and go on your way. I sessioned with Giovanna and her service was good as a previous report described. YMMV but meters on az side streets have no cost after day hours and meters in mexico no pay Sundays but are watched hard during hrs. I have parked many times on street, no issues. Also is non metered parking in residential past mcdonalds. 5 min walk to border and never a problem. Have also parked mexico side overnight on street many times past hotel Olivia. My car nice but not new. I would not park new luxury car on mexico side overnight.

As mentioned in previous post, down there about 3 weeks ago. Curious if Ed's parking lot is still closed? It was chained up tight when I was there. Any other secure parking spots on US side?

Regis was open then, reduced hours. Closed at 10 pm, I think, and I was rushed by several women from across the street. One claimed we spent time together before.
