The other one is on the south side on Olas Altas. It's about two blocks south of "Andales" right beside a hair saloon. At these two places you need a passport though. The majority of cambios you don't need any I'd but you won't get as good a rate.
    Great info thanks.

Good point. It is something I will consider.

I plan on checking with my bank (Chase) about the sell rate. Last time I tried that it was some ridiculously low amount so I passed.

Yes the rate was fair, considering the service provided. You give up a little bit on the exchange rate compared to the bank, which is how they stay in business. I forget the amount, but it seemed small to me. I didn't test the dollar limits. My guess is they report the transactions to the government, who tally the numbers. If you go to more than one cambio, I don't see how they can compile the data quickly enough to be a problem during a two week stay. Have you looked into exchanging your money at your bank before you leave?

"With new laws in effect since September 2010, however, the use of US dollars in cash for making purchases is limited, and the sums exchanged at banks and currency exchange booths are restricted. These measures have been brought into effect to combat money laundering and organized crime, unfortunately tourists and legitimate businesses are also affected."

"the Mexican government will cap the amount of dollars foreigners can exchange for pesos in Banks & Money Exchange Establishments to no more than US$1, 500 per month. Many financial institutions are limiting this to exchange up to $300 USD in a single transaction. It may also be required to present an official identification when exchanging dollars for pesos."

I didn't have any need to exceed those dollar limits, so I didn't have any problems with the new rules.

"The measure WILL NOT AFFECT the amount of cash (in Mexican pesos) an international tourist can withdraw from an ATM machine on a daily or monthly basis."

The safest way to use an ATM is inside a bank during business hours. If the machine swallows your card, there will be someone there to help.

    Questions / Please Help

I've chatted with a few of you guys online and have received excellent advice as usual. After doing more research I still have a few questions. If anyone I haven't chatted with would chime in I would appreciate it.

    * Smithers and Pollockdog: THANKS. I am thinking PV in early October. Let's meet if we cross paths.

    Questions:

I have contacted www.redzonetours.com and purchased their PDF file for $9. 95. It is a real time saver and highly recommended for anybody planning a trip to PV. PP = Positive Purchase.

The "Low End / Local" club prices quoted for 20/30 are ridiculous. Around $80 in some 20 minute places and hovering around $100. 110 for 30 minute sessions. No offense but how many locals would be dumb enough to pay those prices? Not to mention each club charges up to 300mx for the room or exit fee. Again Ridiculous.

    1. How many of you guys pull chicas out of these clubs and bring them to your hotel without the mgmt. knowing? I am thinking of going into them with my local number written on paper and handing them out. Good Idea? I would do $80 for an hour at my hotel. Es posible? I have several address for brothels and semi pro bars.

    2. ARE THERE CAMBIOS in PV that will exchange Dollars for Pesos? How prevalent are they in the Zona Romantica? No issues with the new exchange rules that mexico has implemented? Mazatlan had 1 cambio in the centro. It made my life rather difficult. I don't like ATMS.

    3. Anyone know where to buy a local SIM card in the Zona Romantica ?

If I go down I plan to fly to Tijuana afterwards. No big deal if I don't session much in PV. I can enjoy my surroundings.

Nothing is set in stone but I might be down in early October. I hear the weather can do anything during that time. Maybe I will wait and see how it goes prior to booking.

    Thanks!

That would be great. Former gal-pal I met in Antorchas a few years back, has a bar with extra services out in Coapinole. I really want to check it out this trip. Probably go out there during daylight and check it out. Called Las Hadas. 450 Avenida, in Coapinole.

A wing man is always in order.

Been forced into daytime forays forever so night time adventure will be a real treat. Hope to meet some of the locals from this BB. I already know many expats down there.

I know most of the places mentioned in this thread, have used many of the motels, and look forward to this fall. In town 10/20-11/3, can't wait.

    Questions

Is there someone that will allow me to PM them with various questions regarding PV? I prefer someone who is or was recently there and is adventurous when he hunts.

Any knowledge of Guadalajara is also much appreciated.

    Thanks

Sadly, many of of can only get there once a year. Naturally, even from the very South of Canada, Winter is the chosen time to go to PV.

I'm shooting for November or early December again this year.

    Cheers Mates!

Very true Vitrea. It's been slow as hell on here the last two months. I guess there aren't many people in town these days.
