Anybody been to Tampico lately. A little bird told me that I would soon be visiting there.

I went through lots of these without a single problem.

I went through military and poilice check points during the 5000 miles. I did not count, but I would think about 25 check points.

First thing I did was to say.

No habla mutcho espanjol.

Tourista Cancun.

I had the documentation for the vehicle I was driving.

The mexican insurance.

And the 3 month tourist permit.

And the passport.

3/4 of the time I don't think they even knew what the documents were. Just a blank type of stare.

The vehicle was never searched. Except for once I had crossed back into the USA by the USA border side.

Most of the time as soon as I had give my little broken spanish introduction they just waved me on.

i did a road rip all the way. 5000 miles through mexico

8000 miles from my home and back home

i drove through the night, and found it totally safe

at no time did i feel i was in danger

and there was no area i did not drive through

i found the locals very friendly and willing to helpoad to tampico is good and although there is a sped limit it is not enforced

on the good roads i was traveling at 100

the last 20 miles before tampico it gets a little rough

but not too bad

from tampico heading south the road is bad

big big big pot holes, low speed only

don't drive it with mag wheels or low profile tires

steel rims and high profile tires, a hammer to repair the bent rims and a few spare wheels would be a good idea

but if you keep it slow and drive this section in the day

you should be ok

road side vendors are great, lots of food, fruits, etc.

I mean you are traveling to Tampico. If we were talking 3 to 4 years ago, I would take POV and or a bus. But, now, I can't look past the Mexican check points. I have had 2 friends get jacked. One was traveling to Tampico and the other traveling to Monterrey.

Turn left on this corner, 50 yards down are door girls.

The town has an uptown and downtown section.

Downtown is the market area and the port.

It's a very big area, at least 10 or 12 blocks long and about 6 blocks wide.

Girls are all over the downtown area.

Uptown is next to downtown on the hill and is for the more upmarket crowd.

Lots and lots of people there.

Work from stroll to hotel impala and then towards strip club.

There are a lot of bars on the beach, but not very busy. I was there Thursday night.

Uptown and downtown very busy.

Food cart at hotel impala makes great hot dogs.

Area very safe, lots of cops in the area but they don't bother the girls or the customers.

This is a must go to.

I did not see any other gringo/s while I was there.

Well worth the drive for a weekend and the road is good.

Glad to see Tampico pretty much same there a week January 2000 big city no gringos there was a Phillipino bar near water for seaman had a couple girls working from Phillipines,mercado very good cheap many memories.

I'm in Tampico about once a year for the past 10 years and have yet to be able to make a trip by myself. Uuuugh. The hotties around Tampico, Manuel, Aldama, man they're hotties. Anyone that gets any of that action has got my envy. Hope to see more reports from here. And REALY hope to make some pics/posts of my own someday down there.

How safe is the Centro district? If you wanted to walk around and check out the clubs is it safe? I do that in Monterrey and have never had a problem. I know the rules about getting loud, drunk and stupid and usually follow them. Any particular club there that is prefered?

Centro Tampico is safe, you should be able to walk around without any problems. Tampico is not nearly as big as Monterrey and most of the centro clubs are within 4 blocks of the Plaza de la Libertad.

Strangely enough for a major port city and oil town, the hobby scene in Tampico is relatively quiet. My assumption is that Tampico is VERY conservative. A couple of SGs that I've met complain about the police not letting them work on the streets.

Besides the clubs there are several hotels that girls work out of. Any taxi driver in centro should know where they are.
