Some thoughts of Havana bars and clubs and eastern beaches after spending last week in Cuba.

1. Casa de La Musica (Centro). Visited on a Sunday night. Place was not packed. Good aircon, decent lineup. Took a negrita to my casa. This place apparently has a disco in the afternoon as well, some girls were hanging around the entrance waiting for guys to take them in at 17.00 in the afternoon.

2. La Cecilia. A Friday night visit. Big outdoor club in Miramar. A bit far away from Vedado and prepare to pay 15-20 CUC taxi one way. 20 CUC entry, some "famous" Cuban music group was playing. The place was packed. Many non-pros and a decent selection of pros. The putas were mostly skinny white skinned type. Reminded me of the romanian hookers in German FKK clubs. Some decent looking mulatas in the mix. Best looking girls were definately the non-pros. It was a hot and humid night, no wind, and of course no ventilators to ease the pain. I did not take any puta out that night.

3. Shangri-La, Bolabana, Up&Down. These Vedado / Miramar bars are new and all similar to each other. Small places, not so many people on those nights I visited. Lot of non-pros, some odd putas in the mix, not nice quality ones. Good aircon, that's all good news. IMO not worth visiting, poor ambience.

4. Melia Habana hotel lobby bar. Small hotel bar, handful of putas, mostly jaded ones. Asking 100-150 CUC for one hour, no thanks.

5. La Rampa bars near Tryp Havana hotel, Tikoa, Sofia etc. These places are dump. Not attractive girls, crap service from the staff. Need some dynamite to improve. Avoid!

6. Salon Rojo. I visited this club on Thursday night. It was packed with people. Full of putas even though they can't enter the club alone. Decent quality of the girls. Took one slim morena to the casa. Hit or miss place.

7. Hotel Inglaterra. Few pros in the hotel bar and also outside the hotel looking for a prey.

7. Don Cangrejo. I visited this place twice, both on Saturday night. Place was packed both times. Mixture of pros and non-pros. Some great looking girls, unfortunately all of the best ones were non-pros, not available. Putas are sitting in the back area close to the sea. Many white skinned slim ones, I saw some same faces in La Cecilia. It was hot like hell even though it is an outdoor club, no wind to cool things down. I took a mulata back to my casa one night. IMO maybe the best club in Havana.

I also visited the beaches of del Este. Santa Maria del Mar and Guanabo. Lot of people on Santa Maria, also a lot of police. Difficult to pick up girls. Besides the beach there is nothing in Santa Maria. Some old shitty hotels like Tropicoco. This place must have been brought from Tshernobyl.

Guanabo is a small town, a real shithole in my opinion. Guanabo beach is not as nice as Santa Maria but there were some putas available for a fuck. I took one skinny negrita to my casa. Nothing to write home about. There are also a few putas on the streets and bars. Some lie their age. I tried to bring a hot morena to my casa one night. After looking on the ID of the girl, the mama of the casa said this one is only 17 and sended her away. Then commenting to me that these dumbass hookers don't even know how to calculate. Made me smile.

There are a lot of people on the Malecon in Havana during evening and nights. Some putas in the mix but mostly normal people having a drink. And a lot of teenagers under 18 so be cautious.

The food has not improved a lot since 2,5 years of my previous visit. Some new Paladars and private bars which had decent quality of food had arisen though. I made a stupid mistake and ate food from street grills on my first days and thus shitted water for the rest of my trip. A piece of advice, bring in a bag full of Imodium to Cuba, they don't have proper medicine for diarrhea in the farmacies.

I should have brought some gifts for the putas. They tried to rip me off from everything in my room. After shave (for men!) Sun lotions (I need that! Cosmetics etc. But after all I paid them fairly well so be at ease.

I got a 600 Euro bargain for flight tickets with russian airlines Aeroflot and thus made it to Havana. This was my second trip to Cuba and probably the last. I got sick and tired of all the bullshitting, jineteros, crappy service in the restaurants and bars, taxi drivers ripping you off, all the duplicitous people trying to fool you and asking for money for nothing. I felt like the seat cushion for two fat people at a football game. I am sure the yanks will bring in some improvements after the borders will open for free tourism (if this happens). Anyhow I will not go to Cuba to witness this, still so many other interesting mongering places to visit in this world.

Technically it's not illegal for Americans to travel to Cuba, it's illegal to spend American currency in Cuba. Fortunately, there are quite a few exceptions. The license requirement in the past required an actual physical license from the treasury dept. Now, Americans can simply self certify. No. You cannot use your ATM card in Cuba, you must wait for us banks to open in Cuba, but that is moving fast as it appears a Florida bank is about to initiate. The Cuba as we know it is about to change dramatically, for better and for worse.

You are 100 percent correct Sir, "simply certify" is correct but make sure you have the backup documentation. My last trip I tried this and here is what happened:

I booked through ABC charters out of Miami for 399 usd for the non-stop flight and 100 usd for the tourist card, I also signed an affidavit saying my trip was for cultural purposes. The boarding was uneventful but at customs in Havana I was told to wait in a corner till no one else was waiting about 90 minutes. A lady then came out and asked me a bunch of questions (where I was staying, my job, what was my job etc) and walked me to my luggage and I was cleared. There was a form they had passed out on the plane asking what group you were with so I left it blank and I think that is what drew the flag. Leaving Cuba was problem free then I arrived for customs in Miami. I had a fake agenda on my phone with a few receipts from my trip just in case. The customs lady asked for my invitation papers but I directed her question to my itinerary and receipts but she said she didn't care about that and she wanted to see my invitation letter. My mind is thinking fast so I told her I left it at my home because I didn't think I would need that. She looked at me over her glasses and said' Mr Gogo you need invitation papers and you can't go to Cuba by yourself". I looked confused and for sympathy as I was caught red handed. My nice demeanor played in my favor as she just gave me a warning and said don't let it happen again. I cleared the airport with no further problems.

I asked around to find out how I could get invited to Cuba and ran into road blocks unless I was willing to pay handsomely for the endorsement. I don't play with religion but some guys are going down sponsored by churches and they have you on a tight schedule as they try to hook you up with good Cuban girls you can one day marry and bring back to the States. You can also go as part of a sports group but you will pay for the privilege and you will have to attend their events and be under their authority. Its about connections and payoffs. These groups that invite Americans have to apply with the Cuban government and depending on who you know and how much you pay will determine if you get approved. My Uncle runs a sport non-profit in the Dominican Republic so I tried to get hooked up through him. He said he applied to the Cuban authorities over a year ago to have his non-profit go to Cuba to attend sporting events and nobody has replied back. He then reached out to sports people in Cuba to try to work from the inside and was told that the guidelines are strict for people to have the authority to invite people to Cuba. If your aren't a well known organization or have connections in Cuba and Miami then you will be denied.

Thanks for the heads up on the Capri. I take 24/7 internet access for granted in the UK. Even travelled through Cambodia last year where had a local sim card 5 $ all week with data and listened to internet radio with few interruptions.

So load up your MP3 player with lots of good music and maybe some video too.

2 minutes from my apartment there was a bank with many working ATMs and a Cadeca where you could change money. The cadeca was open from 8 - 8. For 150 I was getting 225 CUC with no fee. They not accept any notes with tears or writing.

I only had one note like this but was then OK to change in the bank. Used the ATMs couple of times with no problems. Same exchange rate but a 6 CUC fee.

Some good eateries along calle 23 too more geared to locals all listed in the real havana guide. You could get a big meal, couple of beers for 10 cuc.

Would anyone know if a Charles Schwab will work at these ATM? I'm thinking because the embargo is still intact, I don't think it will but if it does, it will make my world a lot easier while in Cuba.

Senator pleaded guilty, reportedly after bathroom stall incident.

Craig, 62, paid a $500 fine when he entered his guilty plea on August 8 in Hennepin County Municipal Court in Bloomington, Minnesota, according to state criminal records.

Day One: Sunday.

Used sky scanner to find a flight to Havana via mexico but with a 5 hour layover, went fast though 10 hour flight from London then 2. 5 hours from mexico city to Havana.

Did my research with the real Havana guide that you can download off amazon, excellent guide although non mongering info but list some of the clubs etc.

I also paid for joneses gentleman's Havana guide and thought it lacked detail. The guy had made over 80 trips to Cuba so will operate with an unconscious competence now, that no newbie can hope to emulate.

Straight through customs and the border guard was an attractive Cuban girl with short skirt on and fishnet stocking, I was already getting turned on getting my visa stamped.

Had to wait over an hour for my luggage to come through and it was HOT!

Taxi waiting for me with my name, 20 $ to my 1 bedroom apartment in Vedado along calle 23 just round the corner from Habana libre which was my base for internet, breakfast etc.

You can use the swimming pools at Habana libre and Nacional for 16 $ a day but 13 $ goes towards food and drink. Internet is 10 $ an hour which lasts 3 days if you not use it all up..

Good first night in Havana. Internet card at hotel Capri is only 4 $ per hour instead of 10 your paying, hope this helps you and others! Enjoy, I love Cuba!

Apartment was 30 $ a night and totally self contained, I could come and go as I please with no one to answer to. Landlord warn me about [CodeWord902] chicas. Me and him would be in trouble, they need to be 21+.

Unpack then wander down calle 23 La Rumpa. Then along the malecon. Stop at a bar restaurant along the malecon big pink building where they pad your bills, beware of the place.

Then walk into centro. Its evening now around 5-6 pm and many people stand outside their houses enjoying the sea breeze that blows up the street and the banter.

Agree with Mr. Gogo. The best investment you could make is reading this forum as far as you can go back and the second best one is learning Spanish. Someone showed me how to type in English and google translator gives the spanish translation. You would like the fact that it can even read it out, so you know how to say it. I think it is not perfect, still better. So type statements like.

The problem is not spanish for some mongers. It is just that they do not know how to pick up using their own native language, leave alone in spanish. So practise hard, and it will all be worth it.
