I am probably not the best person to give any input regarding this, since I live in Cuba. I have only booked a room for the whole day once here in havana, and that was with chris h. I had the key with me all the time and when I left, I didn't even return the key to the owner. Chris took care of it. However, I have rented rooms for a short period (1-2 hours) way too many times, at least once a week minimum. Never had any problem whatsoever. Maybe sometimes, there aren't any rooms available at my regular place, I just go to another location. I have never failed to find a room available, when and where I need one. It was always available, even during the lockdown in havana at the peak of covid19. BTW I pay 5-10 cuc each time for the room, depending on the location and size of the room.

That's not to say Bolivia was bad, but Colombia is 100 x better.

Hey Chris,
I'm with you, never had an issue with the owners where I stay (Vedado by the Malecon).
The only thing they always mention is to be careful in case I bring a "guest" who I'm not familiar with since this might open the door (pun intended) to being "taken" advantage of.
In other words they're looking out for me by letting me know there are some hard core jineteras who fit this M. O.
Mondo.

I spend winters in Medellin. It's a first world country with third world prices. Best place in the world right now imo.

The conditions in Cuba these days is harsh. Cubans CANNOT cook worth a shit. I always struggle with the food in Cuba, big drawback for me, in Colombia, the food is great! No shortage of anything.
It's hard to compare Cuba vs Colombia, two completely different places. For what it's worth, my next trip will be to Medellin or Cartagena Colombia. I'm going to wait for the conditions to improve in Cuba before I return.

Never been to Cuba. I've heard that girls just approach you in the street. Is that an exaggeration? And since I can't have girls back to my place, where do I take them? Are there any good websites you recommend?

I am now starting think: Forget Holguin, go to Cebu in the Philippines, whenever that may reopen. I have a gorgeous online girlfriend there as well. Hopefully we will soon have a vaccine and COVID will be over and travel will be possible.

Posts: 210I have been to Holguin, Havana, Las Tunas and had no issues getting the key. The toughest is Holguin but I found a rare old man who only charges me $15 CUCs and gives me the key. The key for the gate to get inside his house and the key to one of the rooms. He has 2. His only rule is the chica has to leave before 6 am. One time in 2016 me and my buddy had 3 girls upstairs and they left at 6:10 am. The owner got a little mad because he's scared of the fuckin police (obviously) but since then we've been good friends. This was found via my Cuban friend and after 14 trips to Holguin.
