It is big, but not that big, you don't need to hit one spot, walk it! I hope I am not overloading you, personally I see nothing there that could interest you and the obsession, you may be acting on some old information, some nights there are no girls there at all, and it certainly is not what it was years ago, 100 hookers a night and per kilometer, no mas! IMHO stay away from the Malacon, go at night, maybe check out some girls, but to far to walk to the action, stay in Old Havana, or Havana around the Capitolio, find a casa on like Homestay.com that shows map locations. No walkabilty from the Malacon anywhere!

Is it best to avoid staying in a Casa Particular? My understanding is that these are the places registered to provide accommodations for foreigners, but they are also the places that require the woman to register upon entry, and will limit how many girls you can have come over. Police presence on the street was pretty high. Several patrols going up and down the street. However, the girls were still there looking for guys. So the same old cat and mouse game as far as I could tell.

After arriving at the airport and checking in my Casa I took a walk around Vedado to change money, get a bite to eat, and get water, rum and other essentials. Not much going on a Saturday at 3-4 PM. A tourist can be fined thousands of dollars for participating in prostitution. If you are busted with a chica and can show you had ongoing contact with her, you'll probably be let off the hook. If she is checked in with out and shown in casa registries most of the days of your trip, you should be OK. Having a "puta" in Cuba is a bad idea. .
