Claudia and Rachel groan loudly when my crazy alarm goes off at 2:30 pm. Even though it has only been 5 and half hours after I fell asleep I make myself get up. As the song is about to finish I pick the last song in my latest episode of pathetic tomfoolery. The 3rd song "Sorry Not Sorry" by Demi Lovato (which is my fucking jam!) starts and I am about to "tear the roof out of this one!" (sing it very well). Melissa is laughing her ass off at this point and when she sees me performing this song like a BOSS she gets up and starts to dance and tries to keep up with the lyrics. When the song ends I turn down the volume and we both start laughing and she starts asking me questions like if I like to sing a lot.

Now that I made Melissa feel comfortable with me and found a way to try to "connect" with her I feel a little more confident that I can convince Melissa stay TLN (toda la noche). So I offered a big toiletry bag with some make up (lipstick, mascara, etc), female deodorant and body sprays, and some 1st aid stuff (all cheaply bought from the Dollar store) which she liked. She was almost there so I told I would give her another $20 to make it $100 for TLN and that was my final offer. Melissa seemed that she was really thinking about my final offer. Negotiations with Melissa part 2 (tip: learn some salsa / reggaeton dancing).

When I lived and worked in Ecuador for several months a few years ago it seemed that everyone knew how to salsa dance and of course a lot of the young people also danced to Reggaeton. I realized that learning to dance at least some salsa could be very helpful when it came to the ladies there so I learned just a little bit when I was there. So when I decided to come to Cuba it only made sense to try to learn more so I could increase my chances with the ladies there and also because salsa dancing was just fun. For the Reggaeton dancing I had a very good friend from high school do me a favor and gave me a few lessons on how to dance to Reggaeton. To me this wasn't a chore because even though I am not a great dancer I like learning to be a better dancer because its fun. Don't knock it until you try it fellas.

After we establish the fact that Melissa is going to stay with me for the whole night (and it was still relatively early it being around 10 pm) we talk some more. During this time I try to steer her to the topic of musical (first singing) movies on my laptop and show her a few scenes from movies like "Chicago", both of the Pitch Perfect movies, Moulin Rouge, and Hair Spray since Melissa likes musicals a lot. I looked around and it seemed like all of the pros had the same attitude as Lucia (felt that they were entitled to get paid ridiculous amounts of money) and seemed stuck up (at least Lucia was nice to me). Also it seemed like nobody was having fun here. It was pretty lame atmosphere wise. I wasn't digging this vibe at all. As I was trying to find Vlad's cellphone # I feel a tap in my shoulder and it's Phil. Great just what I need. So for the next almost 15 minutes Phil tells me how he is an all purpose facilitator / guia (guide) for "yumas" like me. I am polite and listen to his "resume presentation". When I try to tell Phil that I'm leaving he introduces me to this older (late 30's) very mediocre black Cubana that he wants to match me up with. Fuck! I tell him that I actually am going home because I feel sick and need to call Vlad. Phil finally gets the hint, I get his # as a courtesy, and than he goes back inside the club. This skeptical black skank on the other hand still persists with me and I try to politely tell her that I'm not interested but she keeps at it. Finally I have enough and tell the bouncer that she's bothering me and they make her go back inside.

Soon I hear the jackals,"my fren my fren you need taxi?" Luckily Vlad got there 15 minutes later and I decide to try Don Cangrejos.

The hustle in Cuba is all the time.
