Was in La Habana for the 1st time ever between Aug 26 and Sept 8. Except for the 1 day delay because of Hurricane Harvey I hardly hit any snags. I will write more in a "trip report" soon. Here are a few pictures for the meantime. Before I forget I want to thank everyone here who has given advice on making my 1st trip as enjoyable as possible.

I have been aware of this for a while. Whatever the Cubans are doing has the potential to take us back to a no travel policy.

Before the etiquette police post, we probably should move these type of discussions to the general forum.

Now if you are talking about the Cayos on the northern coast that's going to take sometime to get it running back to normal but almost all of us mongers never go to these places.
BTW, I will be arriving on the 27th, so when I come back I'll post and up to date report of the situation there.

BTW, just a heads up for all you pervs, cubanas love chewing gum, so hit Costco and buy one of their big boxes of gum and when you head out take a few packs with you. Great for breaking the ice and you'll be a big hit on the Malecon. LOL.

Posts: 137I am also going in November. My guess is that the women will need money even more than usual. I also expect USDs to be in demand for a while. It will be interesting to see what the Cuba vets post about the current situation. If anyone knows of things the Cubans need specific to the effects of the Hurricane or a link to such a list, please post. I am happy to bring some stuff and make my support of the Cuban people travel designation 100% legitimate.

Posts: 275Quick Question Regarding the Hurricanes
Hello, my friends and I are thinking about going to Cuba in November. We are wondering if Havana got affected by the Hurricane that might impact our trip possibly for November. Such as the bars and nightclubs (will they all be operating), are the restaurants and houses for rent still okay with power, adequate plumbing, etc. ? Will the chica scene be quieter? I am assuming not much will change, but the news does not get into a lot of specifics about the Hurricane there. When I looked at CNN it quoted the following: "Those who remained told CNN they were prepared, though they knew this was a storm like few had ever experienced.
Meanwhile, as dusk fell Saturday in Havana, the churning waters moved inland from the city's popular seafront boulevard. Flooding continued Sunday afternoon along the malecn, spreading into adjacent streets with waist-level water in some areas." The photos show people wading in waist high water in some cities. I am finding it hard to believe all is normal.
I knew when Jakarta was hit by severe rainstorms traffic was horrendous, and in the Philippines a monsoon on its way caused us to leave creating havoc to the city. Lastly, a massive Please advise if anyone, especially with boots on the ground or a friend on the ground can report if all is okay.
