Got back 2 weeks ago from a quick 5 night trip to Havana. Here are some tips that may or may not be useful to anyone.

My friend and I went down for a relaxing getaway from the stresses of life. Mongering was a definite, but it wasn't the overall main goal of the trip. Getting away from real life for a bit was the main goal.

Tip #1: I jumped on Badoo about 3 weeks out from my trip. I know it has been mentioned here that the earlier the better to be on Badoo as most of these girls don't have consistent connectivity to the internet, but I actually feel like it would have been better if I had gone on closer to the trip instead. I found that the earlier I contacted a girl, one of three things happened:

#1 They'll message you every day all the way up to the trip to make sure that they didn't lose out on a client.

#2 They would forget that we were in contact weeks ago and you'the have to start all over again.

#3 They would drop off the internet and it feels like a bit of wasted time.

Either way, with regards to mongering, I could have gone onto Badoo the week before my trip and I feel like that would have been more than enough. However, with the limited time we were there, I was glad I did do some sort of early recon since there were a few times where it was just easier to break the phone out and invite a girl over for some drinks rather than going hunting. So whether it's Badoo or IG or whatever the kids are using these days, do yourself a favor and take a little time ahead of your trip. Make sure you get their WhatsApp number right away as it works much more smoothly than the messaging system in badoo. I didn't run into a single girl that didn't give me her number as soon as I asked for it. By the last week, I was asking for their numbers within the first few messages.

Tip #2: Lots of very attractive and not so attractive girls absolutely everywhere. Slim and tight or black chicks with badonk, it's all available. As has been mentioned, San Rafael and Prado were full of girls giving you winks and psst psst any time from late afternoon on. Small stuff:

-talk to your airbnb host pretrip to see if they can help you exchange money. We got 310 to 1 USD and the lady had the money waiting for us at the apartment for when we arrived.

-absolutely every person you pass is going to try to stop you to exchange money, sell cigars, sell rum, "I have the most beautiful girl for you", etc. Do not make eye contact and do not break your stride. Just say, "no thanks" as you keep walking. Some will follow you, some will call after you "oh, you don't like talking to Cubans? Do Not Break Stride and just ignore them. Anything more than that is engaging with them and it becomes very exhausting dealing with that by the end of the first day. We actually got to the point that we didn't even say "no thanks", we just ignored them and kept walking. It feels like a jerk thing to do at first, but the attention is so abrasive, that you get over being a jerk real fast.

Same question here, how did you pay for the hotel / incidentals? I take it you prolly paid in USD, correct? My main concern about paying in USD, was / is that some places they'd not take them.

Case in point, when I arrived in January and tried to buy a sim card outside the terminal at JMI airport, they would not sell it to me in USD, only in CUP.

The hotel has to be paid by credit card if you have not booked it in your country.

I went to Meliá areío de Oro (in Guardalavaca) wih my girl and we just paid for the room.

That is very interesting. Perhaps it is only the marketing of the all inclusive types of resorts in Cuba that is not allowed in the US. My understanding was that Americans were not allowed to go to these resorts, but I stand corrected. Which terminal de omnibus are you taking about? I googled it, and it shows location right by the Parque central, is that the one you referred to in the post? I remember the main bus terminal in Habana is quite far from that area. Also, which street is your Airbnb located at?

Also, I take it you're Canadian, right? I wouldn't mind taking a hot Cubana for a week to Varadero, problem is mongers from the US can't get a hotel rental there, any suggestion on that front?

Hey all, just got back from 8 nights at our favorite island. Good times! As usually, my girls were from Badoo and Bumble and IG (new). The IG ones definitely need more convincing since they get endless DMs.

Watching the crazy skaters and roller bladers, some of whom look 5 years old, is its own form of entertainment. I met two mujeres de la noche on the Prado, and I got their numbers as backup. Both were later afternoon. But it does seem that the purposeful streetwalkers are more desperate and lower on the spectrum of desirability, which is why stumbling on random non-pro women is much better IMO. But you'd need to initiate that interaction, and more chance for rejection. But who cares? My only concern would be pissing off a mama or papa, or a large jealous novio. But honestly I see cubanas on Badoo all the time who have boyfriends in their profiles and statuses, JJJ. It's probably best not to try it in from of the boyfriends though.

Speaking of cigars, not sure where the $50/ stick number comes from, unless you like overpriced Cohibas, but $18-$20/ stick for most brands for robustos or small Churchills is about average at the Habanos stores. Maybe that's aristocratic for some of you, but look at all the money you're saving on not going to restaurants! It's always funny coming home from vacay and having *lost* weight.

BTW, I've been to Havana 3 times in the past 10 months, and every time I go, I see changes. The good being, there is more capitalism and importation of goods, many American. The idea that there is still an American embargo is specious. Cuba can buy anything from the US other than weapons or technology, just not on credit. Cash on the barrelhead! But I saw things like 7-Up and Pepsi stocked in stores for the first time.

The not-so-good are the fact that gasoline has quintupled in price since my last visit in January. The only good news being, that leads to less people driving and therefore less traffic and smog.

I didn't eat a single Cuban thing while there (no pun intended), other than a little beer (I even brought 3 6-packs of my own beer from the US). Even the bottled water was imported by my hosts.

Some questions:

"Stoop" girls. Do you mean random girls just hanging out on their stoops?

I'd love to stay somewhere where I could get some sun and beaches, but there don't seem to be many appealing AirBNBs in Veradero. I love having a civilized place to stay with hot water and good Wifi and a working fridge and oven, and mercados nearby, and hosts who will sell me imported water bottles, and good security protocols (multiple doors to entry, a safe in the casa).

Next visit:

I'd like to do more business during the day so I can prowl the Parado at night. It's so crowded and well-lit that I think it's safe. But I wouldn't want to deviate much from there. I know some of you creech around at night, but that seems risky. Would appreciate more reports on night carousing.

I'll definitely bring more food and snacks for me and less gifts. I get 2 70 lbs bags and a carry on with international business class, so I bring a shitton of stuff. But I always forget things.

Oh, and I am definitely getting the VIP lounge pass for the Joe Marti entry next trip. I stood in long lines processing through immigration. Like 90 minutes.

Next trip likely late May, early June.

I enjoyed walking through the streets of town hand in hand, and joking with her. She had a real young and lively personality and I loved every minute with her. I tipped her well after each of our encounters. If I can figure out the system here, I'll include her photo here. She is the one with the drink and also proudly displaying her hooch.

I was happy to see that there is a lot of activity in Havana, compare to my previous visits last year. Restaurants and bars staying open later, most with live bands and a lot of patrons. New small shops opened and new bars and artists spaces. So many international items for sale in small shops. I did not see an overly aggressive police force (although in a conversation with a female jinetera she said one woman I knew was taken off to prison for plying the trade.) which meant I saw more girls out that before. I also heard more open criticism of the government and its policies, while at the same time praising them for allowing individuals to own their own businesses. On my next trip I will try to explore the "stoop" girls in Centro Havana. They used to be out and available in the old days. I have a feeling they are coming back. There's nothing like a stoop girl, as I was reminded on this trip. I am hopeful the positive trends I saw for the monger-class continue.
