As you walk toward the Malecon from Tikoa, there are a few basement clubs. I have never gone in to any of them but have heard some good things, though sporatic.

La Zorra is dead if you are looking for chicas. There are mostly European tourists from Hotel Nacional or Habana Libre there.

Then there is puta central on the corner of La Rampa y O, Cafeteria Sofia: putas, jineteros, drug dealers, undercovers, regular policia and tourists all a strange mix there.

Across O, further down, there are a few more places in the darkness, but they are mostly regular places until you get near the malecon where there is a mix of trannies and a younger generation.

Flew in last week, and to my delight Cuba seems largely unchanged from many years ago, when I last visited.

La Rampa was jumping.

The same nightclubs were open. Try Tikkoa midway up, theres two or three others each one maybe 4 or 5 CUC entry, beer about 1. 5 or 2 CUC. Most single girls will be delighted to go with you.

One particular night I wasted some time and couldn't make a decision until 2. 50 am. And the price she gave me at that time of night? $10 CUC, so I took two girls, Some of the girls don't seem very organised, they want to go to your hotel, don't have a casa to use etc. And the $10 girls were like that. The police hassle is quite prevalent, the back door girl couldn't speak to me direct because of all the police and it was only chance I sat down for a coffee and she sneaked into the cafe via the, ahem, back door to join my table without the police spotting her.

Safety wasn't a concern, minor scams and hassles were. Its probably best that way around.

A quick warning: the ocean end of La Rampa is boytown, and there are a couple of muscular chica's that may provide a surprise package if you're dumb enough to entertain them.

Still its a fantastic venue for a monger vacation, and still blessedly largely free of Americans, although that will change. Go whilst you can!

$100 cuc for a bollo in Havana? I was there in November and pay dinner, a phone charger (5 cuc, which might have been a scam but I did not care) and 40 cuc for whole night. The girl was super hot. That's one of the spots me Grownman and Johnnyvegas visited multiple times. We went late, usually after 11 pm and never witnessed [CodeWord902] girls. When the weather is warm the kids hangout all night on avenida 23 and the malecon, they usually don't have money for the cover to get into clubs. I think the cover for Tikoa was 10 cuc but we always got in cheaper. We were the only gringos there and had a great time. Most guys from this board probably won't like it because they play house music and most of the Cuban girls there were dark.

There is also another club two three doors down toward the malecon. For jazz lovers " la zorra y el cuevo" is also between the two clubs. Cover there is 10 cuc and you get one free drink. The live jazz band doesn't start till 11 pm but it opens at 10 pm.

You can find some girls on La Rampa at night but not the best girls. If you are willing to pay around $60, I suggest you try La Cecilia, Johnny or Casa de la Musica for 8-10's. That said, my best experiences have always been with the girls that I randomly meet.

I always got unofficial taxis, easy to get and cheaper. The girls will sometimes go with you in a taxi-unofficial taxi and sometimes not. They will usually not walk with you because they are scared of the police and are supposed to be only in their area of town. If they get caught, they will get grilled by the police, possible jail and then sent back to their area / city. As a foreigner, you can walk and go anywhere, no cops ever bother you.

As far as ATMs are concerned. I only ever saw them at the good hotels and at the banks. In the years I went, USA Credit cards would not work at an ATM, not Visa, not any of them. I brought money and then I brought many cards to test.

None of my cards worked at the ATM, but I did get my Mastercard to work at the bank inside Hotel Habana Libre (Hilton), counter not ATM.

Not sure if the situation has changed, but that was my experience from the USA.
