I always got unofficial taxis, easy to get and cheaper. The girls will sometimes go with you in a taxi-unofficial taxi and sometimes not. They will usually not walk with you because they are scared of the police and are supposed to be only in their area of town. If they get caught, they will get grilled by the police, possible jail and then sent back to their area / city. As a foreigner, you can walk and go anywhere, no cops ever bother you.

As far as ATMs are concerned. I only ever saw them at the good hotels and at the banks. In the years I went, USA Credit cards would not work at an ATM, not Visa, not any of them. I brought money and then I brought many cards to test.

None of my cards worked at the ATM, but I did get my Mastercard to work at the bank inside Hotel Habana Libre (Hilton), counter not ATM.

Not sure if the situation has changed, but that was my experience from the USA.

- I read that it's safer to get money with the card information at the desk of the banks but is it also easy and safe to withdraw money at an ATM (never got your card blocked inside for example)?

And finally two other questions:

I read that taxis ask for about 1 CUC + 1 CUC per km during the day. Is it the same price at night? Is it risky to get unofficial taxis?

I always got unofficial taxis, easy to get and cheaper. The girls will sometimes go with you in a taxi-unofficial taxi and sometimes not. My advice is to avoid ATM'S, I never use debit or credit cards when on vacation. Doesn't matter where I travel, Europe, North America, Caribbean, Asia, South America, etc. , I never use them.

I walk with my CC for emergencies only. Cash in my pocket is way better than a Debit card.

Taxis don't have meters and they basically quote you a price, and you start negotiating from there. You can expect higher prices at night. The unofficial taxis (taxi particulares) are not legal but many people including tourists use them. I have done it so many times with no problem.

I knew GM and Mack would be a good team because GM is no joke and can handle who he is. They initially hit it off and were joined in their conversation by a guy who played pro basketball in the States. Mack hoI met the Mack on my first trip to Cuba. After not dealing with touts in the DR I sure wasn't dealing with them here. I brushed the Mack off that first trip with hard looks and completely ignoring him which he didn't like but I didn't care. It was very interesting, he was deported after he got into a beef with some Colombian dudes in LA. I still wasn't fucking his tricks but I would buy him a beer occasionally. Now the Mack could pull any chica walking around and had the scoop on everything, so I used him for this. At one point was one of the hidden gems of Cuba, Moron. But in the last 4 or 5 years it has change drastically. But still a good hunting ground for top Chicas and good GFE. The girl in the pic was at one time one of my favorite, but she marry this local Cuban, who on a good day is an asshole. The next day Mr G & I went to Chinatown. We had a nice lobster dinner and did some people watching. I was kind of funny because I didn't get anything last night.
