Glad there are quite a few new people seeking information and planning to visit Cuba. A lot of the information you are looking for is pretty simple, basic stuff that you can get elsewhere. There are several places where you can get information, beginning with travel books and travel sites like Moon books, Frommer's etc. I think you should spend a little time perusing those places as you are seeking information that is necessary for ALL travelers (Accommodation, travel between cities, currency, food etc).

Yes, things have changed in the last 5 years, but Cuba is still worth a trip. I think once you have the foundation down I think you will be fine, especially since you have been to other places in Latin America. Just read as much of this forum as possible, take a few notes, have fun and report back. Good luck!

I don't think Frommers is going to give me the mongering perspective on the best lodging. Thats why I posted here. I want to know what the best casas are near the most popular beach for a cheap price that allows girls w / o a extra charge. I'm assuming that can be answered here way better than Frommers or some travel book. It would be nice to be close to the beach, so I can just walk to the beach from my room, check out the girls in their bikinis, be hit on by the semi and pro hookers, and then take them back to my casa a couple blocks away. Thats what Rio was like back in the day, but it has really dried up there and is too expensive. Is this plan good, or do I have Cuba all wrong. If I can meet girls this way when I arrive, I can do a longer term date with the girls I like, and let them show me around Cuba for the best clubs and restaurants. It would shorten my learning curve this way.

Agreed. But the hope is in the strength of the people. I have been to other countries where the people are oppressed, and they have given up. But the Cubans know the regime is coming to an end eventually, and there in is the strength.

You have to put this into perspective. Everything centers around one person, Fidel. The past American governments hate Fidel. The south Florida Cubans hate Fidel. Even the people in Cuba wait for a world without El Presidente. Once this obstacle is not there everything changes. Now the question is does it change for the better with American involvement? I won't go deep into this topic, but I will say this; The Cuban people are probably the strongest group I have seen in dealing with an oppressed society.

There are almost no 'malls' in Cuba in known sense. No fun hanging in ones on Prado or Central Havana.

That what has changed, there is no more hope in the regime.

In Cuba you can find good natural tits The girls costed me around 100$ each if I remember right. Quality has it's price.

I found out that all the prostitutes were afraid of police. Every time I took a girl back to my casa we had to take separate taxis. Not an issue for me but anyway it felt a bit strange.

In Cuba there was not the same relaxed atmosphere like in Colombia or Brazil where you can hang out with the birds on the beach drinking beer etc.

Question to the Cuba experts. I am considering going to Cuba from Mexico for the first time. I have read some of the past posts to try to catch up, and am confused about something. I read some posts that said Cuba isn't as good as it was 5 or 10 years ago. Why is this. It's still a socialist country, and it hasn't been americanized yet. It's still run by a Castro, so can someone explain why it changed, and what the biggest difference is. Brazil is too far and too expensive. Mexico is too much of a hustle and americanized, but still decent for a quick trip. Cuba seems to be the next best / new option for me, when you consider I am looking for something close, hot latin girls, and inexpensive that isn't americanized. I am assuming Cuba fits that description best for now. Any advice would be good. From what I read. Stay away from hotels and get a casa. What exactly is a casa. Is it a house that rents out rooms?

Yes, a casa is a house owned by a local Cuban, who rents out spare rooms. Meals are usually not included but good value. Google up casa particulars. If you need one, just PM me and I can give you the phone number of one.

As to why Cuba is not as good as it was 5 or 10 years ago. Probably no one can tell you. The scene in Cuba can change from week to week, depending on the whims of the local communist committee. I've had 1 or 2 trips (out of 12) which were a total bust, but others which were awesome. Americans have nothing to do with it.

Just returned back to Scandinavia from 2 weeks sunny and sexfull holiday in Cuba. I stayed 5 nights in Havana and the rest in Vinales, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Varadero, Guanabo with a buddy of mine. Here's my 2 cents:

Havana has clearly the best pick up options in Cuba for a tourist, the girls are all over the place. In the big clubs like La Cecilia, Salon Rojo but also many of the smaller bars have plenty of girls too. Also the streets are full with girls willing to make some extra pesos.

I stayed in Vedado and concentrated to that area's clubs, La Cecilia and Salon Rojo. Both are doog places but totally different lay out as described in earlier posts.

First night after arriving to Havana I took a taxi to La Cecilia. My buddy stayed in the hotel since he was sick and had fever. It was around 22. 00 on a Saturday night when I arrived to the club and I had to wait a bit before they let me in. I don't understand why, since the place was nearly empty. Cuban way I guess. There was a famous cuban reggaeton group Gente de Zona playing on that night so the entrance fee was 35 CUC. Pretty much but what the fuck, I just started my vacation and did not fly all the way to Havana to be tight with the money. I payed, entered and took a few beers in the bar looking around. The place begun to fill up quickly after 23 and eventually the place was packed with people. There seemed to be quite a lot of wealthy cubanos in the disco and many working girls in the mix too. The quality of the girls was quite good, not stunning. I spoke to a sexy slim girl who claimed to be a model. We'll aren't they all saying that in a place like Lecilia-LOL. I wanted a little bit more curvy latina girl and continued my way. At some point I spotted a stunningly curvy mulata with cute face. First week, my casa owner would hook me up with "friends". But they would be asking 75- 100 CUC. I guess I looked like a lost tourist. After I threw them, one actually naked from my bed, I got sort of bad reputation. Neverthe ess, I found several neighborhood girls who were happy with 20 cuc! The casa owner was pissed as I was bringing 2 girls a day and bang them and he got no cut from them!

Sorry to say friend, but the casa owner was probably hustling you. The girl who waited on the stoop every night took whatever I gave her. The first night it was 40cuc, then 30 after. I gave her two pair of sneakers when I left that she admired. The college student was 30 the first two nights then she disappeared, probably because she expected more. But my last day I gave her some photos that I took of her, so she will be back my next trip.

I was telling my friend from LA yesterday that when they open up the country you will see guys running down to Cuba snatching up wives so you better enjoy it now.

The girls are savy. If they arent hardcore pros they will give you the respect you deserve as long as you give them the same respect. Its the hardcore guys that try to get over that they don't like. Most of the non pros will be glad just to be making a few extra dollars.

Again, the casa owner and you have to develope a mutual understanding. 1) That you won't be bringing trouble to the casa. 2) They have to respect that you will not let them into the business you have with the girl, even if they know her. I had a regular girlfriend, but I wasn't bringing home different chicas from the club every night. I stumbled onto the stoop chica by accident because she was watching and waiting and understood what I wanted. And I also knew she wouldn't cause problems so close to where she lived. I like quality over quantity. On my last day everybody from the stoop chica to the casa owner was asking for my shit. From the unused condoms and soap to the tennis shoes that no longer had value to me because I saw how much they needed them.

Guys have a point about guys over-paying and fucking up the market, but the poster was honest enough to admit his mistakes. For this he gets a pass from me.

I think finding the correct casa particulares is the key to success. Luckily I have the perfect one for me. When I was staying at the Iglatera my first visit, my girl and me spent the afternoon going around looking at places in Havana el centro. They are easy to spot because they have signs out front. A few had private entrances that I was looking for. I actually had an older gentleman run up to me saying his sister had a private apartment 5 minutes away. It was perfect. Private entrance, private bath, phone, ac, kitchen and entertainment system. It was 30 per night. I called two days before my second trip and she was thrilled that I was coming.

Now here is the fun part. Sometimes I would sit outside on the street sipping a krystal beer, people watching. Little did I know that I was the one being watched. The first couple days I had my girl with me all time until I tired of her. When I told her I needed some space and I would call her in a few days, she said "you don't even see all these vultures circling and started crying". I had no idea until later that night.

I went out alone to Calle 23, then Duberville, and finished at Casa de Musica. Guys if you don't know these spots you should. Anyway as I turn the street to my casa at 2am I see three pretty girls sitting on their stoop talking. One calls me over and asks if I have a cigarette, I say no. Then she starts small talk. She asks if I want company, and I say no. My stupid ass still thinks that I'm being sneaky and no one knows me or where I'm staying. I go home and get in bed. This became a regular routine for the next three nights. I would spend the day with my girl and go out alone every night. When I came home every night she was on her stoop waiting.

Then the owner of the casa started having this fine 19yo hanging out. She was a university student. She was squeezed into the rotation as my main girl was demoted. Now I'm catching on. As I walk around the neighborhood I know people are watching even though they don't stare.
