If your traveling form south Jersey fly thru Philadelphia or Newark but you will probably have a layover in Florida.I believe that thier are 4 daily flights to Havana from Cancun which makes it a popular gateway.I was questioned about my whereabouts 3 years ago when clearing Customs at Newark Airport so cover your ass and no cigars/rum.

You could always look into Porter Airlines out of EWR to Toronto, maybe worth it combined with the cheap airfare from Toronto to Varadero.

I make that drive often NYC to Toronto is 9 hours, more depending on the traffic at the border crossing.

When flying from NYC the cheapest gateway country is the Bahamas.Most of the flights are out of JFK airport.

Flights to Bahamas start around $300 (includes tax) and the connecting Cubana flight is about $350.There is also a $42 departure tax from Nassau.

WOW, Cancun is cheaper than Nassau on Cubana? Cancun to Havana roundtrip on Cubana is about $290.00 I have not use Nassau in a long time. I do not live in NYC, I live in the south of Jersey. Getting to JFK is a pain in the butt because of the Belt Parkway. That thing is always a Parking lot no matter what time of the day you drive in.

Leaving from Toronto to Varadero. This is good for teh folks that live around the NYC area. It is a 6 hour drive from NYC to Toronto.

I woke up Sunday with a stiffy and started flipping through my phone for a remedy. Of the 7-8 girls I called, Lauren was the first to call me back.

Lauren is a dirty girl. In a good way.

For those of you who have the time and the money, you can for $65.00 Canadians Plus Taxes. Taxes are $210 Canadians Dollars for a grand total of $275.00 dollars. For those who live in the East Coast and one to get away for a week this is a very inexpensive side trip.

I would like to add my two cents to this discussion. Before I do, I will say I met Kalifornication through this forum and now consider him to be a good friend.

I don’t think this is the place for personal attacks, but I agree with Smokers Rule that this forum is about sharing information and meeting other like-minded members. I want to read about restaurants that rip off tourists; I want to know about scams that girls run on people so I can avoid them – and yes if people have issues with other members I’d like to know about that too. Cuba is a different place. Many of us go there without ATM or Credit Card access so it’s not the same as other destinations.

I realize it can be a fine line between flaming someone and reporting an incident, but if you read back through the posts Kalifornication did not name names – El Cubanito came clean himself. I think that was a stand-up thing to do.

All I can say at this point is I don’t think the posts should be deleted and I’d like to read about it when the debt is settled. I would also like to know the outcome of Smokers Rule’s situation so I hope this talk is allowed to continue – without the personal attacks.

The post should not be deleted. I met Kalifornication by his other name, but when I read it, I knew he was talking about me. Owing up to your mistake is what a man should do. At least that is the way my father raise me.

Those of us that go to Cuba know that it's easy to spend more than you thought you would. I've done it on more than one occasion. Guys I've gone with have as well. I've lent money to fellow gringos and I've been lent money when I've miscalculated my costs in Cuba. I'd like to think that if I were in a jam, my friends would bail me out. I'd also like to think I'd do it for someone else again.

Lending people money is a personal decision that should be kept in the personal realm. I don't think this is the place to "mediate" grievances between our fellows.

A. Don't lend money you can't afford to lose.

B. If a friend bails you out of a jam, make right with him.

I just got back from my trip. I'll post a report later tonight or tomorrow.

I have personally been robbed by Cubans in Cuba. Did I flip out, no I just move on. I have lend money to people in the airport that do not have the money to pay to get out of Cuba. Money comes and go, Friendship are to be treasured.

Kalifornication & El Cubanito and I planned a trip a year and half ago. El Cubanito bailed out and didn't go. I went with Kalifornication and since then we have become friends. Kalifornication is a great guy and I can vouch that he is a stand-up, honorable person.

For a long time I have been a second hand witness to the conflict between Kalifornication & El Cubanito. Everything I've seen leads me to believe El Cubanito owes Kalifornication money and has evaded paying it. Granted, my perspective is one-sided, but I have no dog in this fight.
