Canadian SIMS have even better rate. And IIRC in Havana you can even get 3 G.

My Verizon works like shit in Cuba, can't get or send texts and phone calls are $3 a minute plus high data charges for which I have to turn off cellular data most of the time. Does anybody have experience with other US carriers there? I would like to find a nice chica friendly casa with wifi to use the voice feature on google translate even though I speak enough spanish to get by.

I learned a hard lesson on my 2nd trip to Cuba back in 2016, my AT&T iPhone would get internet in Cuba, and I had called them to add the international package to my plan, at the time I didn't realize that Cuba was excluded from the international plan. I came home to a $4500 dollar phone bill! Come to find out, my chica was surfing the internet all night on my phone while I was sleeping, fucking little ***** figured out my password and was having a field day with my phone. Coming from Santiago de Cuba with Grownman we had a two hour wait at Holguin Airport. I struck up a conversation with a black American living in the countryside with his Cuban wife. You can get prepaid cards at the airport when you get to Cuba, or you can get your Casa owner to get them for you, or you can get them at the Melia Cohiba in Vedado, or you can get them at any ETECSA office scattered around Havana, but there will be a long waiting line at the ETECSA office.

Casa's with WIFI can be found, but usually very slow connection, I usually go set in the Melia Cohiba lobby for internet.

Before you rent a Casa, make sure you can actually stay there, from what I understand Havana is still under lockdown over this stupid virus and tourist are being confined to state run resorts like Veradero, and NO contact with the Cubans.

I would be interested in a nice private casa in old town. If it is available for rent can you please PM me about it? Last November I was getting 1 to 1 on US dollars and heard that some were getting much better rates. That was right after they opened the stores that took dollars for high ticket items. With that casa owner it wasn't a private casa, her and her daughter lived there. You can have a prepaid card for your mobile with internet but it will take some time to have it online ready. With time, its not an issue. In case you are renting from a private owner, internet will be super slow but if you are renting from the Cuban gov, you will have the opportunity to apply for faster internet. The internet I have at home is not bad because I am renting from the Cuban gov. you can also buy internet card to use it at one of the internet park. its pretty fast for cuban standard. Good luck!
