I've been to Habana many times but never stayed at the beach. I thought I should try it out at least. So I will come to Cuba in three weeks (and for three weeks) and still haven't decided what I should do: Book the Tropicoco for a week and a casa in Habana Vieja, or a casa in Habana for the entire time?

Also: Can somebody recommend a girl-friendly casa for my sole use in Habana Vieja which features a window? Man, I truly hate these 'barbacoas' which have no view! Anyway, in case you are in the know your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The NY Times had 2 amazing, very informative stories the history of HIV and AIDS in Cuba. The good, the bad and efforts that the revolution has made to stop it. We all know that Cuba is one of the countries with the lowest infection rate in the western hemisphere etc, but these 2 news stories are still very good, and I recommend that everybody here read them. I emailed one of the casas I usually stay in Vedado about current Dollar Exchange a the Cadeca. She Quoted me. 87 CUC per dollar. About 13% of the top even though the published Offical Rate is 1 to 1. I am pretty sure is correct, Does anyone know if bringing Euros is a better idea, or the other currencies also get hit the same? Appreciate your input.

If you go to a bank the exchange for Canadian is $98 CUC for $100 Canadian. I just left Cuba yesterday.

Does anyone knows if there is a problem from entering multiple times to Cuba. I mean like once every month?

Last time I went just for three day and when leaving the officer asked why stayed very few days? But it sound a little inquisitive.

Just play along with their little questions and they'll send you on your way soon enough. You're not breaking and laws and they are just trying to do their jobs.

There are counterfeit bills out there. To risk $100 in order to make an extra $2 does not justify the reward. While a few people may know what they are doing, the majority do not.

There are plenty of cubans willing to echange for say 91-92 for 100 american. Ask your casa owner to hook you up, or justlook near the cardeca and you will find plenty of folks giving a better rate than the cardeca. Just make certain you are getting cuc and not moneda national, unless you are seeking moneda national (rate 25 to 1 USA) to engage the local economy. Can save allot of money this way, but la habana is not the place for this, go east.

Guys can anyone please confirm if it is possible to find blonde Cuban women in the island particularly in the provinces? I was talking to some guys and they said some clueless Russians and Americans had illegitimate kids in Cuba who are now the few blonde chicks now in the island. Cuba used to be (and still is) one of the favorite vacations spots for Russians and being as promiscuous as they are I doubt some of them did not leaved some few Russian female kids over there.

I dial 011 53 and then the number they gave me but it does not work. I tried both home and mobile numbers. The mobile numbers has 10 digits and land line has 6. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help out. Thanks.

You are missing a number in the land line number. A few years ago, a digit was added to the beginning of the 6 digit phone number to make it a 7 digit phone number. Sorry but I don't remember what that digit was for Holguin.
