My point and I am sorry I should have explained. We have been dealing with each other for a year and a half as she stated. Do they beg from each other as much as they beg from gringos? If so, then I would say it is cultural. If not, then I would say it is that they have been conditioned to beg from gringos; whether conditioned by friends who tell them gringos are walking ATMs or by the gringos who buy in to the begging.

Agreed. These guys give these chicas their contact information, phone numbers, and call them novias, and then run a mile when they are asked for something, probably not very much. In Spanish novia means roughly something like "fiancee". In the message it says she has been with him for a year and a half and has never asked him for anything, but now she is asking because she needs help, so it is not like they are complete strangers. Then she says to him "just forget it."

He thinks she faked the injuries so as to ask for money. It looks to me like she could use some antibiotics and wound treatment stuff which would not cost a lot of money in the DR. Bottom line is that he doesn't care much for her anyway and it is probably all for the best that the relationship is now over, but it would have been better if he just didn't reply to the message at all.

Agents raid beach town home, rescue 16 minors used for sex.

Santo Domingo. - Justice Ministry officials and police agents on Wednesday rescued 16 adolescent girls and boys who were being sexually exploited by a network of Dominicans and foreigners in the beach town of Boca Chica (east).

Arrested in the raid were 10 USA Citizens "johns" and 6 Dominicans including four women were, accused of recruiting the minors for sexual purposes.

The Justice Ministry, the National Police Anti-organized Crime Dept. (DCO) and the International Justice Mission have been investigating sex tourism, exploitation and children trafficking in Boca Chica for several months, which led to bust of the network that used the minors to provide sex for foreigners.

In a raid Wednesday of a residence in the Alpes de San Isidro sector, 12 girls and 4 boys, 14 to 17 years old were found in a pool party, where cash, alcohol, drugs and condoms were also found.

Like I said, in a previous post, the reason most people get caught is because they do it too much, get overconfident, and become careless.

The fact that some organizations, and the government have noticed is because those responsible were doing it too much. They have been investigating this for several months so this sex operation with minors has been going longer than this.

At a pool party with cash, alcohol, drugs and condoms sounds careless. It kinda sounds out in the open (not in a bedroom). Drugs are nonnegotiable in the DR. Getting caught with it is definitely careless (assuming the drugs were not planted!).

10 Americans sounds like a good number of people to shake down for money. They will probably be locked up and will spend several thousands trying to address this issue. If these Americans could find these minor sex workers it should much easier for the local authorities (who live on the island, speak the language, and know the culture!) It must have been rather obvious.

The cash issue I have doubts about. Perhaps it is me but law enforcement in the DR would most of the time pocket the money they find in crime scenes! If they admit there was cash they have to show the cash, as evidence, that was found. I guess they have to make a connection between cash and sex.

The article is implying sex but unless people were having sex in the pool this will be hard to prove; and the alcohol can be questionable, unless minors were caught consuming alcohol. They might make an issue of alcohol in the presence of minors!

What I see, just based on the article, is outside the drug issue, everything else can be challenged. The minors will be coaxed to testify against some of the adults (especially the Americans), with the encouragement (behind the scenes) of being offered money to them or their parents, to do so.

The Americans will be inconvenienced by being incarcerated (if they work I guess these guys are going to miss some job time!), having to pay money, most likely being banned from the country, and embarrassed by the entire issue.

One needs to be careful in the DR. Use discretion and make sure they have cedulas; bring her to a private place (different strokes for different folks but I prefer a one on one in a hotel room. People rarely get raided on a one and one. A pool party is just too open and obvious! Talk about attracting attention). Avoid being around drugs (a "no no," whether there are minors involved or not).

Grownman I'm off to SD again in a couple of weeks and never got round to checking boca chica, I remember you were staying at villa capri, I have no idea where you found working girls there, any suggestions where to go during the day especially? At night I presume they are everywhere? Some clues would be helpfull.

Girls will not be hanging around the Hotel. However, the strip, park, and beach are a half mile behind you. About 9:00 pm the strip wakes up. The Boat House on the strip is a good daytime handout for Vets.
