I just had to chuckle to myself. My first trip to the DR I "flew solo" and went to BBs. After some research and courage I had my first or second post on this board and posed the same question as you about what kind of condoms to buy. I was also 20+ years without buying any condoms. I got some good advice from this board. It brought back some fond memories.
Now with about 2 1/2 years under my belt and coming on double digit trips to the DR (I must be some kind of sicko, huh??) I can try and pass something on to you. I usually go with Trojans Ultra thin (or ultra sensative I forget). They come in a silver/gray box and advertise to be very sensative. They are much more sensative than the black boxed Trojans Magnums. I have tried the Lifestyle brand, but I didn't like them that much.
Whatever you do, bring your own. The Domincan rubbers are trash. Much too small and they have a tendency to break. I had one break on me with a chica and I don't want to go through that ordeal again.
IMHO BBs is a great place to get your feet wet in the DR, and if you have time to make it up to Sosua, by all means check it out. The great thing about the DR is that there are many ways and places to enjoy punting if you read the boards. Plug into the one that works for you.

Posts: 3281There are white girls in DR. They are mostly from Santiago and La Vega and surrounding areas. Working white girls are in the minority. They are usually snapped up quickly by sponsors, western boyfriends and in some cases married to westerners.
There are always 2-3 white girls in Latino if you go early. But they are picked up quickly. I had one stay with me for four days.

Asking for directions to the bathroom is useful. Another good word is "salida" which means 'exit'. It can help you find your way out of the airport.
You can probably find a nice gfe at BB, and with a bit of luck use her as a tour guide as well, only steer clear of the Tienda Jimenez in Puerto Plata. It is a department store that sells women's clothes.
Have a fantastic time. My first trip to the DR out of more than 30 was to BB and I had a great time and couldn't wait to return.

As for the GFE, that's not something you can (just) buy, of course you will always have to pay for it, but like in anything in life, that needs work.
Don't be intimidated, once you get there, you'll find out that things are not as complicated as it seems to be.
Don't limit your fun by enclosing yourself in a place like BB. Do you think a bird have more fun in a cage than flying free?

Are there white chicks in DR also?

Depending on your Spanish skills, you can try to barter for price.
If you understand in advance that 45 dollars is the fee you want to beat, you can try for less.
Just ask the price to COSTAMBAR.
Once you get into Costambar, tell the driver "BARBA NEGRA" (Black Beard) and he will probably know the way.
You can pay him in dollars, obviously.
As soon as you can, go to the supermarket, Jenny's, to change dollars to pesos. You'll save a lot of money that way.
You'll see it on the right as you pass through.

That aside, I highly recommmend it. The girls are thrilled to leave the place and many make very good guides, - though it helps if you pick one with some English. Some (all) will ask you to buy them things, ranging from trinkets to expensive, but that is of course, up to you.
Often an inexpensive gift and a meal, and treating them to a good time is more than sufficient. As with all human beings, some will try to exploit you, and some will prove absolutely sweet.

Look out for special reductions on the AA Web site. Fare will vary according to time of year. For example Easter and Christmas very high. Summer time (out of season) is cheaper. For cheapest fares book on line.
Avoid flying via Puerto Rico. Lot of extra time.
You might be able to get a connecting flight to MIA, but you will need to calculate whether it is effective in terms of time and cost.
You can park at MIA at Payless car rental for $6 per day. Easiest way to MIA airport is to get onto the lower end of US 27, which takes you right there.
If SDQ is MUCH cheaper, then you can book flight into SDQ and then yoiu can return from POP for the same SDQ price, but I would not recommend this unless you wish to spend a night in SDQ on arrival, in which case this is a good deal. Bus from SDQ to Puerto Plata or Sosua is very cheap, but taxi from SDQ to bus station is very expensive thus negating savings.

Most people (I think) try to save money by flying into SDQ (Santo Domingo) and take a bus or rent a car (which I think is a 4+ hours drive), but I would not recommend that to someone who is not familiar with the country (or their terrible driving practices and road conditions!)
Also, it would be wise to go ahead and tell BB's that you want a taxi to be waiting for you at the airport. It will cost you $45 dollars (which will be charged to your room), but it keeps you from having to haggle with all of the other taxi drivers at the airport and getting ripped off in the process.
As far as airlines, I think American Airlines is the only carrier that flies out of MIA to POP, but I am not sure.Last edited by SavePros321; 03-10-09 at 19:19. Reason: Additional info added

Try Kayak.com, expedia.com, and all others, see which airlines and deals are there, then go direct to the sites. Jet Blue, Spirit, Continental, and American all fly into POP from the U.S. right now.
If you're Canadian, totally different story.
