There are many pro's and con's to renting a car and much has been posted. I rent at the airport and have had no problem with either Budget or Hertz.

Just a warning. Yesterday a motoconcho driver and passenger who had stopped to make a turn were hit and killed by a cement truck, leaving their corpses looking like roadkill, I am told. Fortunately I was not an eyewitness to this.

I am told that if the driver has full insurance he will only have to spend 48 hours in jail, as the insurance will cover everything including the cost of the funerals. Not sure how accurate this information is.

Reading that I may have helped inspiring others to come to the DR north coast is the greatest honor you could have made me, MonteQ.

I found mongering in Sosua a gratifying, even exhilarating experience.

Where I was expecting to find 2 neat categories of prostitutes, I encountered countless shades of gray.

Where I anticipated struggling with a corrupt society, I discovered a land with well-established traditions and a genuine sense of pride,

Where I feared dealing with a greedy and materialist culture, I found warm people with a deeply-rooted love for music, dance and fun.

So being told that I may have inspired others to follow my steps in discovering this land is the greatest compliment of all. I am on my way to a cupid date on my favorite waterhole on the Malecon, and I'll make sure I'll raise my first Presidente to you, and to all the anonymous voices on that board who made it possible for me as well,

I am with Henry here: I also am looking at taxi cost, because my plane arrives in STI at 10 pm and leaves at 8:05am. I checked the bus schedule and I will either take a taxi, or take a taxi between STI and Santiago, stay a night in Santiago, and then taxi to bus station and bus to PP / Sosua. (the last two neglibile in cost).

Yes, I know it would be just easier to fly into POP, but the return flight will leave me stranded in LAX for one night, or require rental car or airport parking for 2 weeks.

Yes, I am getting ready for my first trip to DR this coming November. I am really looking forward to it. Thanks to so many posting here with advice, I am getting prepped properly.

We didn't get the dates wrong. They cancelled, allegedly because Blackbeards Bikini Contest was on that afternoon. The ironic thing was that four guys who were staying at Blackbeards arrived because they wanted to get away From the Bikini Contest. I know how they felt. I never want to see another one at BB, FoD or anywhere else.

Anyway, good to meet you and you certainly did a few different things from most quick trippers.

No, I didn't interview them. I did a session there in July. So I know the price structure. Its 3000 pesos for an hour onsite, and 150 american for all night at your place. The girl I had in July was HOT! She was also a good provider. The room was basic. Overall, I perfer having girls in my room. Talk a little, have a drink, then get to it. I guess I'm not a wham bam kinda guy. Also, at BBs 3000 pesos gets you a girl all night with multiple pops. Enjoy your trip and please, report back.

I've been working alot since I got back, so this report is a little late. However, I wanted to put it out anyway in case someone finds any info useful.

Day one.

Arrived at the airport, grabbed a cab and hit RUSA. I got 39. 05 per dollar. Hit la Sirena to get some things for the room. I checked western union and they were paying 39. 10. So next time I can skip RUSA. Hit the Hotel Lomar, my room was ready. 35 a night cash, no tax. FYI, later in the trip I walked into the Pureto Plata Beach Club and they are also 35 a night cash. Hotel Lomar is clean and safe, but basic. Its in a good location on the malecon. I tried to buy a phone at la Sirena, but it was 1000 pesos, I thought I could do better so I passed. The girl at the desk let me use her phone to call my american buddy who lives in PP. He picked me up an hour later and we hit a clothing store thats suppose to be a hot spot. I can't remember the name, but it was dead. We went back to la Sirena, where I met a hot hatian. Then on to dieciseis, which was also fairly dead. He dropped me off and I called the hatiana but she was a no show. So I ended up at club extravaganza, which I hear used to be called Enigima. I got a hot dominicana to go. 500 peso salida. I agreed to 2000 pesos for her. Probably could have gotten her for 1500. She was good! Complete GFE, un rushed. A little drama with the security because she didn't have her I'd.

Day two.

The desk clerk told me where to get a cheap phone. Everyone was talking about the 300 peso red phone, But the girl at the counter told me it was for dominicans only. I'm sure thats not true, but I needed a phone so I ended up paying appx 700 pesos plus 100 for minutes. So my american buddy wanted to take me somewhere. We ended up going to el Manatial in St Michaels I think it was. Its a water park where three rivers meet. Well, more like a collection of pools, not anything like an american water park. Anyway, there were some hot girls there, but they all looked young, so I passed. On the way back we stopped at a colmado and his wife introduced me to her friend. Good looking, seemed friendly. Ended up back at extravaganza. This time I got the light skinned girl that does the strip tease. Hot looking, but not a good in the cama. Quick BBBJ, as soon as I got it in she was asking if I was done. Those pretty faces always get me! LOL.

Day three.

My american buddy called and said his wifes friend wanted to meet, but I had plans. I hooked up with Charles Pooter and we went to FOD for the bikini contest. We had the wrong dates unfortunately. We werent the only ones, I ran into three guys I know from my July trip To BBs. Charles and I decided to head to Sousa. He showed me how to use the publico. For those who don't know, the publico is basiclly a route taxi. They fit six people in the car, two in the front and four in the back, at 45 pesos per person. So for the entire front seat you pay 90 pesos. This was a valuable lesson. A cab from Costambar to Sousa can be as high as 2000 pesos. So we get to Sousa and hit the beach. I thought the beach was pretty nice. As we passed Rubys, we ran into some friends of Charles. Charles is a funny guy, he and his buddy sparring back and forth was hilarous! I had asked to see Passions, so after a drink or two we headed off. We stopped in Ricks, where Charles introduced me to Rick. I've never stayed in Sousa, but when I do I"ll stay with Rick until I learn the ropes. We hit Passions and wow! Passions has hot girls! I didn't session, but I'll make a point of doing so my next time in Sousa. But I have to say, I didn't care for the way the girls were behind the counter. I like it when the seat in my lap and drink with me. We caught the publico back and Mr Pooter was kind enought to introduce me to a friend with whom I spent a very pleasant couple of hours. That night it was drinks up and down the Malecon. I went to el Furegon for a while. El Fuergon is a local dance spot. Some hot girls, but none paid me any attention. I think youd need time and spanish.

Day four.

I called the girl from the colmado in the morning. She wanted me to call back aroung noon. Walked the Malecon from the Lomar to el Barco resturant. I could not believe how bad it smelled. At parts I could look over and see garbage floating. The cleanest part seemed to be long beach. So I get back and call the girl. I thought she was coming, but she wants me to come and get her. So I shower and grab a moto, negotiate 200 pesos for two round trip. I get there and she doesn't want to leave, she wants to talk, and now she wants a cab, no moto. So I send the guy off, we talk, I meet her daughter, blah. Blah blan. So we grab a cab and go to the Lomar, now she wants a drink. So we go to Long Beach, We have three grandes and talk. It started off good, then it was "mi pais this, mi pais that". All of a sudden the DR is the best place in the world. I get hungry, I offer her lunch, she says "no, I cook my food for me and my daughter". Really? I wondering why she agreed to come. So after I eat, I ask her if she is coming to my room. She she says no, her brother is coming to get her. She gives me her facebook and email and off I go. My plan was to get a shower, grab a moto and go to FOD and get laid. As I walk in, the clerk tells me the guys downstairs are looking for me. I knock on their door, and theres a HOT young dominicana. They tell me they meet her at the beach and ask me if I want her. Hell yes! I tell her what I want offer 2000 pesos, probably should have said 1500. She accepts and I ask for her cedula. 19, lets go! Great session!

That night, drinks up and down the Malecon, Spent a couple of hours in Carribean Blue, I think it is. Ice cold beer for cheap, a / see good musica latina. The crowd was a little young. Ran into a couple of off duty BB girls, they spoke, gave me a hug and moved on. Went to Cristals. Plenty of hot girls but too expensive. Its crazy to see all those hot girls and like four guys. Youd think theyd get the picture. Ended up drinking at Andys on the Malecon, with a couple of good looking street walkers. Against my better judgement, I decided to take them both for 1000 pesos apiece. Got to the room, BBBJ, but the wanted more for the already negotiated lesbian show. No thanks. On girl kept spitting on the floor as she blew me! WTF! Fucked them both, nothing special. Then they ran through a half roll of toliet paper. Just wipping their lips and throwing it away and then getting more, Just being wasteful. Went back to extravaganza and got the first girl again. As we left the two street walkers were coming in. Another great performance with the first girl.

All in all a good trip, but not as easy as BBs. Lessons learned. I don't have time for semi pros, and no more street walkers! I'll be back 11/22 to 11/27. I'll give you a call Mr Pooter and treat you to lunch!

Don't see why not. (Don't forget that is how Field of Dreams operated for the first, and more successful, half of its existence under Dominican Billy. There were guys with hardcore working girls, semi-putas, non-putas, stag parties, married and courting couples, Dominicans on business travel, and one or two families, all co-existing amicably. There were no working girls available on site). But those murals won't help make them feel at ease, I must admit. Non-putas might be harder nuts to crack.

The city is nine times as big, after all. You might get away with it at FoD because they are still rebuilding their client base, but I don't think that would work with Blackbeards. But if you have a good reason to leave it late, look on the bright side. If you cannot get a room at either of those places, there are plenty of other places to stay that mongers regularly use and which many would prefer anyway. It isn't worth agonizing over.

I contacted BBs last week, which was a month before my trip, but they were already booked up for my dates, so I booked with Field of Dreams. I'll be in Sosua most of the trip but will be at FODs the last 3 nights of my trip. Hope the quality of the chicas is OK.

I already know that there are buses from Puerto Plata to Santiago, and they are much cheaper than taxis. I had been planning to take a bus. But the airline changed the time of my flight from 3PM to 1PM. That means I'll probably have to get to the Santiago airport by 11AM, which means I'll have to get up very early to catch an early bus. That's the reason I'm trying to find out how much the taxi costs.
