Excellent point. Use the Search function to find out more about the Casa del Conductor option. Basically it means that instead of being taken straight to a Dominican jail in case of a moderately serious accident (someone hurt or major property damage) you are taken to a sort of motel where you have access to a phone, food, a toilet and (if you want) a choice of lawyers.

And there are ten times the number of semi-putas, by which I mean chicas who don't go out and about looking for paid sex, but are more than willing to go to a gringo's place for money given the chance. You don't get many like that in Sosua.
Thanks. Any recommendations in Puerto Plata? I think Crystals is supposed to be good but expensive.

I only have 3 nites in Puerto Plata, so will not have time to check out more than a couple of places. So which ones? Crystals or some other places?

It makes a lot more sense to change Loonies into USD at home than buying RD Pesos in Canada, I thought you were an international lover!

You just have to be careful not to be kidnapped with your Loonies in your tennies on the way to the bank.

Sorry, I made a typo here. I meant to say "to Puerto Plata, Cabarete, and all points between" (which would of course include Sosua). In fact you can go a lot further, to Rio San Juan, without changing, but it would be a long and bumpy trip and possibly too crowded to be enjoyable.

There isn't one. Blackbeards is a great place but one of the downsides is there is no cheap and practical way to get to anywhere else and back again after dark.

You either rent a car (which is expensive and has other downsides) or you use the notorious Costambar taxi mafia. You can do it by public transport cheaply, but it can take ages unless you are lucky with your connections and some mongers may not fancy finding themselves alone in the dark coming back at night.

Not sure why anyone would want to stay at Blackbeards and pay a premium for everything for the convenience of having it all on site, then get so bored you need to go to Sosua. If you are talking about a one-time trip into Sosua just to see what it is like, then bite the bullet and hire a cab, but it won't be cheap.

If you want to stay in a Blackbeards-type environment, but enjoy the freedom to get out and about to Puerto Plata, Costambar and all points between, very easily and cheaply 24/7, then stay at Field of Dreams instead. It's slightly cheaper, the rooms are slightly better, the management are more friendly, the food is much the same for the same price, the onsite chica service doesn't shut down for the night because some live onsite and are always available, and it is more acceptable to take in outside chicas. On the other hand, you won't have nearly as good a choice of onsite chicas. Depends what your priorities are but you cannot have it all for a bargain basement price.

Of course if you can find three or four other guys willing to share a taxi to Sosua and back your problem is solved. And there are often a few timid newbies there who would like to do that if in a group.
