As I understand it you have only two days in Sosua. You might want to reconsider bringing your gear with you. Each to his own but sounds like a lot of hard work. I know nothing about diving but I know the diving in Sosua is not particularly good. If you have dived at good spots around the world you may be disappointed. And it would only take a couple of days of the wrong weather and it would all be for nothing. Now if you were staying two weeks it would be different. You could pick your diving days, swap notes with other divers, learn the best spots, etc, etc. And get good value for the effort of bringing your gear. Let us know how it all works out for the benefit of other would-be divers.

I certainly will include the diving in my report. I'm in Canada so to me (and a LOT of other divers up here) , any diving in the warm waters of the Caribbean would be better than what we have here in Ontario! And like with other sports, once you use your own gear, you just don't want to use rental gear anymore. I'll see if I might be able to compromise and bring only the smaller stuff that are more personal (mask, wetsuit) and leave the bigger items at home (fins, etc.).

I'll also have to monitor the weather but as long as the boats can go out, say in light rain, the dives are generally a go. Only when there is rough waves and wind will dives be cancelled.

If it ends up with storms, I understand that BBs might actually be the best place to stay put rather than be in Sosua.

Since you literally have to pass FOD on your way to BB or Sosua from either place then I suggest just stopping in for at least a drink to see what you are working with. It shouldn't be more than 100 pesos for a drink and that way you won't wonder later on whether you missed out on anything or not.

We are looking for inexpensive hotels that give us good service and do not ask too many questions. Now your suggestions are always greatly appreciated, but remember we are mongers first and we are looking for any discounts we can get. Short time hotels and all nighters that give us great service. So brothers tell us the hidden spots that we know nothing about, but you had a great experience.

All three venues are different, all have advantages and downsides the others don't have. What the enquirer and those responding to him should be concentrating on is what exactly he is looking for, what sort of budget he has, and what assets or weaknesses he has.

However, no matter how much I will end up liking DR, I will probably not return anytime that soon since I do like to travel the world, particularly places that I've never been to. So many different countries, cultures and girls to experience. And I won't go to a place just for the girls either. There would have to be at least one other interesting activity such as diving (Caribbean or Costa Rica) , temples (Thailand) , museums (Berlin) , etc.

Each has it own good points. For me bb is training wheel. Point and click. The women are ok but are very similar as management has weight rules. If you speak no spanish this is a great option. Now speaking Spanish affords you the ability to negotiate with Sosua chicas. This can be big fun. After one time in BB I had no desire to go back. It was fish in a barrel. Sosua is fish in a lake. The more you do the Dr the more you want challenges. Semi and non pros are te gold standard. That is what I shoot for now. I have time to invest in my hobby many guys do not. I can talk on line and practice speaking Spanish.

This Blackbeards versus Sosua debate has been going on for at least the seven years I have been a member here. It sometimes turns abusive and rarely throws up anything new. I don't know why grown men have to form two opposing gangs like playground juveniles. (Three gangs if Field of Dreams is added to the mix).

A guy who speaks Spanish and is looking for semi-pros or non-pros would be ill-advised to stay at Blackbeards. But for a guy who cannot speak a word of Spanish and is a newbie monger it would be a safe choice. If you want semi-pros and don't need your hand held, Field of Dreams is ideal, but a bad choice if you want to take non-pros back there as a respectable girl (or more likely a girl who wants to appear respectable) would be embarrassed by the putas and tacky murals.

If you want haitianas you won't find many, if any, at Blackbeards or Field of Dreams. If you are not confident negotiating, avoid Sosua unless you want to take the easy and expensive option of Passions, or the chicas will take you to the cleaners.

And so on. These are just a few of dozens of criteria. Swimmer? Golfer? Diver? Latin dancer? Hiring a car? These are all factors which should influence your choice of location. It is stupid to say that one place is better than another unless the enquirer has spelled out his requirements. We are lucky to have all these locations. The more of them which survive the more prices are kept reasonable and the more chicas are attracted to the area to work. Instead of libelling them we should be supporting them all, but gently pointing out their strong and weak points.

Exactly my point, he said he wasnt a drinker and really didn't want to be stuck in the bar between two girls. The place is small and the girls are all around. Pool, bar area, restaurant area. A lot of fun for everyone.

You make Black Beard's sound huge. Folks it is a two storey motel with rooms facing one side, a pool, a restaurant with a bar in the same area, and a room with a pool table. Likewise, Field of Dreams is a one storey motel with the same shit minus the restaurant.

All sound information from someone who knows the area well, but the OP wanted a place similar to Terra Linda (that is, to reasonable gringo standards). All the places you list are one step down from that. There is no gringo-standard chica-friendly hotel in Pto Pta city. The nearest would be Field of Dreams which is a couple of miles outside, but very cheap and easy to get into town. Downside with Field of Dreams is, if the OP wanted to shack up with a non-pro, she might be put off by the putas hanging on the premises and those awful murals. Otherwise it would be his best bet.

If he wants to eat "slightly upscale" as well there are better restaurants than Portofino, though more expensive (La Tarrappa, Las Palmas, or Taste).

I agree BB is boring after 2 days. You have all dedicated putas. Sosua has variety and numbers. Variety is all types of women full time pros and girls week end tricking. It is a different experience in my opinion. Most of the time the girls at BB seem bored and disinterested. In sosua you have the illusion of hunting. BB is point and click. I guess it comes down to personal prference. For me it is not close Classicos, the beach and the variety of women it is not close.

Yeah I did the BB thing 2-3 times and got bored each time there after the first 2 days. It got to a point that I was fucking to kill time and it became work very soon. There is a great beach nearby but that's it. I rented a car and made my way to sousa which is way more fun. Now I don't even bother o go back to BB.

Just to throw my 2 cents in for someone new reading this, couldn't disagree more, Sousa is not way more fun, it is different. Sousa has a place no doubt but BB's is a blast and Sousa doesn't change that for many of us. Think about all the returning customers BB's has shows its a good time.

Not sure how fucking became work, odd comment, if your not fucking in Sousa what are you doing that is so exciting and by the way Sousa is pretty calm during the day.

Just to clarify, Field of Dreams does have a restaurant, similar pricing and standard to Blackbeards. Maybe Mr Enternational means that at Blackbeards there is a separate area set aside for dining whereas at Field of Dreams diners have to sit in one or other of the two areas with tables, one near the bar, the other under the pergola.
