Hello all,
I have been having sporadic luck looking online for apartment rentals in POP that meet my criteria: 3 BDR, girl/guest friendly, with AC, Cable TV, Security and good sized beds. I will be traveling back to the DR in March with DeepmMpactt and another buddy & need a place to stay in POP for two days before moving on to Sosua and New Garden. Any and all help/suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Point made. Avoid using credit cards in the DR. Nevertheless 20% merchant user fees and high interest charges are not synonymous. Though equally repugnant you can pay off your account in full each month and no interest charges are applied. The card becomes a simple convenience and only the less intellectually endowed pay those interest charges on a regular basis.

Using a credit card in a third world country is either brave or stupid.
In the states you will see two prices at the pump for the same gas.
One price for credit card users and a lower price for cash. The gas merchant will
Not be extorted for 3 or 4 percent. The customer with c. C. Will pay for the
"convenience" of a card. Credit card interest can go as high as 25%.
Not even the mafia charges that much juice on credit.

Sorry I haven't received the BB's confirmation yet, though having been the the DR several times my intent was not to use the credit card anyway unless it was practical. First timer at BB's and therefore had to confirm by sending the card number I'm happy that has been cleared up. Thanks Ponderosa etc. That being said I wish the credit card companies did not cause so many hassles for merchants in the DR. Nevertheless despite that credit cards are a convenience for travelers and 20% is a bit usurious.

Most of the posters who are outraged by CC surcharges at BB's must have very little experience travelling outside of western Europe and the US. Virtually every merchant in the developing world charges extra for credit cards and only an idiot who doesn't care about money or who is on an business expense acct pays with them. BB has always had a surchage for CC usage although I do think it was less than 20% a few years ago. If not 20% it was certainly something like 10-15%. Visa and MC normally charge merchants 3-4% in the US which just gets eaten by the merchant. Those charges in emerging markets are much higher. Therefore you are saying BB's should raise the price of rooms, food, bar by 20% and then give a 20% discount for cash payment? That is essentially the same outcome but would be a marketing disaster as would discourage most clients who prefer to pay cash and be less transparent to customers.

Does NG have the same policy as BB concerning the use of a cc to pay for your accomodations?
A 20% bump is ridiculous no matter how they attempt to justify it!
