Santo Domingo can be easy. Casa Australia gets good reviews. GBP the prices are 1000 pesos for an hour, in house. There are many bars and some discos in Santo Domingo where you can try to pick up non-pro or semi-pro chicas.

Blackbeards looks like fun. I have never been to Blackbeards, so I cannot give an opinion from personal experience. If your Spanish is not great and you are not very familiar with the Dominican Republic, it might be better to start off in Blackbeards and visit Sosua as well.

Santo Domingo is a city, no beach, hotels with good pools are more money. Some guys like to swim at the beach everyday or in a good pool while they are on vacation in the Caribbean. If you just want to monger and hang out drinking in bars, then Santo Domingo is good. There are numerous places in Santo Domingo to find chicas. Blackbeards will be more relaxing as it is in a location close to the beach. Santo Domingo is a busy city, with heavy traffic at times. Depends what you like. You could do both, the bus is about a three hour ride between Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata.

The brothels in Santo Domingo are easy, walk in, choose a chica and take her back to your hotel. Plenty of chicas on the streets as well at night. Jaguar and Riazor hotels are located within a 4 block radius of at least 4 places with chicas. Some of the brothels open at 12-1pm.
I want to fly into Santa Domingo because it seems like it is the easiest. After mulling over the advice that you guys have been giving me it seems like it would be prudent to fly into SD for a few nights, stay at Jaguar, go to Casa Australia and may be one other casa (GBP), and then head to BB for a week. Now I think, with this plan everything should work out.

If this is your first time, shoot fish in a barrel, then go fishing next time, if you like. Especially if your Spanish is lacking.
You will find attractive women anywhere, but you have to start someplace. (So many women, so little time).

I think you will find that at BB you will spend more time enjoying yourself "eating fish" and much less time "fishing".

It pretty much doesn't matter where you start. If you lack game go to BB. If you know how to smile and pickup someone, go to SD. It really doesn't matter. Just depends on how you want to approach it.

This will be my first visit ot the DR and I do not speak Spanish.
A non stop drive from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata is near 8 hours. It took me 9 hours from Santiago tu Punta Cana/Bavaro last July, making stops.

I echo what Ponderosa said. Puerto Plata and BBs are a hell of a long way from Punta Cana. If going by road you have to go via Santo Domingo. It will take you an entire day to make the trip and whether you drive or fly it will cost as lot I think thus negating savings on your flight. Puerto Plata is not that big of an airport but Santiago might have better connections. It is only about 60-90 min drive from BB so is definately an alternative to Puerto Plata which I have used many times.

    Cahill,

Flying into Punta Cana may be cheaper, but it is difficult to be able to get around. If you could fly into the capital, Santo Domingo (SDQ) or Santiago (STI and even closer to Puerto Plata) you could easily catch a bus to Puerto Plata. Here is a link for a bus company that services those areas. http://www.caribetours.com.do

Since this is your first trip down, I would strongly advise you NOT to rent a car to drive from Punta Cana to PP. People here drive like idiots (this is an understatement) and the roads and signage leave much to be desired. Not speaking Spanish will add to the problem. Once you have been here and get a "lay of the land" you can decide if driving is for you. Believe me, driving here is not for the faint of heart.

There is an air service that advertises regular flights from PUJ to POP. Its web address is http://www.takeoffweb.com I cannot recommend them personnally as I have never used the service, but they look legit.

    Good luck,

    P

WestJet resumes flying to Puerto Plata on November 1.

Access from the West coast, and excellent service!

If you decide to do it this way Caribe Tours and Metro are excellent, modern Bus lines and run about $10 US Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata one way. So add a few $$$ for Punta Cana ... you get the idea.

Never been to Punta Cana ... can't help you with that part.

You can take a bus from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo. From Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata there are at least two bus companies that go to Puerto Plata, several times per day.

You can rent a car and drive, if you don't mind driving. If you drive, you will learn Spanish. I have gotten lost many times driving in Dominican Republic and I have asked Dominicans for directions many times. "Cual es la direccion por Puerto Plata, porfavor? " Most people will answer in Spanish and that is where you will learn Spanish.

It is not that complicated driving in Dominican Republic, but you may get lost on occasion. First time driver in Dominican Republic, with limited Spanish, my guess is that driving your own car from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata would take at least 6 hours (probably more) (about three hours from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo and from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata about three hours). Driving at night and driving during heavy rain, no fun in Dom. Rep.

Rental cars with extra insurance are about $220 (sub-compact) for 7 days.

Supposedly there are flights from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata but I have no information about them. If you get a flight from your hometown to Santo Domingo, that may be easier for you to visit Puerto Plata. Some very nice beaches in Punta Cana/Bavaro, some mongering opportunities in Punta Cana/Bavaro.

Billy is a solid guy and has helped many mongers over the years.
I was a guest at the Sand Trap and though I didn't invest in FOD I was aware of the details from the beginning. FOD was financed through Anoeca but it was something Billy originated and supervised. A good fraction of the money was invested by Billy's contacts (he raised it) even though the project was handled through Anoeca to provide more security to the investors. From it's inception Billy never expected to have a controlling interest. I have no idea what happened eventually with the investors or the status but both Billy and Alberto have a good reputation and a lot of experience.

In case, they are available: Any possibility to book one in advance ?
I am not sure about advance reservations but they are definately available.
