    Santiago Newbie

Greetings all. Headed to Santiago for 6 nights next week, flying direct to STI from JFK. Been to Sosua several times since 2010. Booked a room at the Matum however, they don't offer airport pickup service. Does anyone know a good taxi guy to recommend, once with decent English would be preferred. Any other Santiago tips (must see places, clubs, food, do's / don'ts) would be greatly appreciated!

No, sir, the only danger is that a fight may break out among taxi drivers competing for your business.

Thanks mate. Was pretty sure it should not be a prob but better to ask the experts

To answer your specific question, I don't think it will be because there are typically cabs waiting for passengers that just disembarked and there are usually cabs that are willing to drive to Sosua or that can call another cab to take you to Sosua.

I am going to Santiago first week in Sept (willing to meet anyone who will be there). My first time in DR. Is there is listing on chongos to visit in Santiago, Pop and Sosua?

However, if you're arriving at 1:00 in the AM, you may not have much bargaining power. Might indeed make sense to reserve a guy to wait for you there.

Can someone confirm this can be done? Is it safe? And for the 1. 5 hour ride, what is the estimated cost in a cab?

    Thanks!

    My santiago trip starting 07/18/2013

    DaY 1

Delta flt leaving jfk was 45 minutes late. Arrived at STI at 1:30am. 30 minutes later than it was supposed to be.

Walked out of the terminal and saw a taxi driver with a company sign. He charged me $20us to Albero Suites. I don't think they call the place Filpo Pension.

Even their business cards say Alberto Suites. I had arranged for my blondie chica to be in my room when I got there. I confirmed she was at the hotel waiting for me when I was at the airport getting my luggage. Got to the hotel about 3am.

The reception guy charged me $90 for 3 days. The 1st night was the night of my arrival (the 18th ). I had planned on leaving on the 20th for SD.

Got to my room and blondie is looking sexy. I ended up changing rooms because the refridgerator wasnt working. The a / see didn't seem like it was cooling the room either. Just as I got the last item from the 1st room, I saw a big flying cockroach in the kitchen. I guess that was supposed to be a reminder from my last trip to Sosua in May.

I shower and get in the bed. Blondie is ready for action. After our session, I went to sleep. And rightly so. I aint used to traveling that late.

    Day 1. 5.

Later that morning, still the 18th, me and blondie set out for something to eat. She calls her taxi guy Vincent to pick us up. ! St we got to the Scotia Bank on Calle Del Sol why calle Mella. Then he drops us off at a restaurant right next to the monument. Kukaramacara. Food was good came to 1730 pesos. A little more than I thought I'd spend for food.

Next I take her to La Sirena to buy groceries for her and her family. We go to drop the food off, and now I am meeting most of the family, with 2 of her 3 children in the house. The other kid is supposedly with his father. My gut tells me they are still in a relationship, and he has no problem with her doing p4p to support herself. Her family was very appreciative. And then we left.

I wanted a car rental. So Blondie connected me to a guy she knew, and that guy connected me with another guy who rents cars on the strip leading to the airport.

I got a Pontiac Vibe (small suv) for $30 a day. It was a hard transaction because neither one of us understood each other fully.

I'm still not sure this was a good idea because I don't really know what their insurance covers if anything. Now I have to be extremely careful.

I'm not really interested in driving around Santiago unless I have to. The rental is mainly so I can travel to SD, back to STI and then to Sosua / POP.

We drove to Terra Bella mall looking for the hooters. No hooters. Even though the directory in the elevator indicated Hooters was there. I was looking forward to their fish sandwich and some Sangria. Oh well. We went upstairs and found a restaurant that had good food and it was inexpensive.

Eventually we made it back to the hotel. Like the previous night. We fucked and slept until morning.

    Day 2.

Set out to look for a restaurant for breakfast. Got a little lost but found a small restaurant across from a tech univeristy. Many nice looking women walking around. Many leaving or going to school, or trying to catch a publico taxi. I tell blondie that I need a pedicure. A few paces from the restaurant is a salon. We go in, and the lady starts doing the pedicure. Now mind you, I am not paying strict attention because I'm too busy trying to use their wifi on my phone. The lady was very nice but she really didn't seem to know how to trim my nails, especially on my big toes. It took almost an hour. Blondie comes over and starts complaining to the lady that my toes didn't look cut properly, and why did it take so long. All of the ladies in the salon were looking stunned because they didn't understand why she was so pissed.

I happen to know she is a little crazy, so it didn't surprise me that much. But then she started calling me stupid in the car, because I allowed the chica to take so long and not to do a good job. I didn't really have a problem with it, because the pedicure was only 250 pesos. And I can easily go elsewhere for a better pedicure. But this chick was pissed about it. I don't think the pedicure was the main problem. Earlier in the salon she asked me for 2300 pesos to get her hair done. I laughed it off, telling her she better buy some food or clothes she don't need that kind of money for hair. So I'm sure that, and having to wait for my pedicure was what really got her upset.

She "told" me to take her to her mothers house. I said, I got a better idea. Lets get your bag from the hotel and you can go home.

We get to the hotel, she barely allows me to stop the car before snatching off her seatbelt, and opening car door. She bolts for the.

Hotel door, they buzz her in. Once in the room she gathers all of her stuff, and starts asking me if I was going to take her home.

I asked her if she was stupid. I said you need to take a taxi. Makes no sense me taking her acting like that. I can see thats not what she wanted. She wanted me to make a big fuss about her leaving.

Anyway, she goes down to the lobby I guess to call or get a taxi. I'm in my room plotting my next move. I notice the wifi is not working so I go downstairs to talk to the front desk guy. I meet the cleaning lady in the hallway, and blondie is on her way back upstairs?

I'm like WTF. I thought I got rid of you. Instead she is complaining about about not having taxi money, and wondering if I was going.

To take her. I reitterated that she should let the front desk call a taxi or call her own taxi. Now she is complaining that she needs money for a taxi. Which is BS, I let her keep 1300 pesos from the change from the food I bought yesterday. I voluntarily gave her 600 pesos for a taxi (which was way too much) and she angrily took it out of my hand. She leaves the hotel, but immediately turns around and looks at me through the gate and tears the money up and throws it on the sidewalk. I went out to get the money, and the front desk guy taped it up. I gave him the 100 peso that he taped.

Now it's time for plan B. But I'm a little unsure about blondie. Am I really done with her?

I was hoping she was gone and I wouldn't have to deal with her unpredictable ass again. But she has already called me 1 hour after she left. I ignored her call. Before all of this, I had set aside money I intended to give her when I was ready to check out Saturday morning. I'm glad I didn't give it to her earlier. I've made that mistake before.

Gave a chica some money on good faith, before we were done. This is a good example of why it's not a good idea to pay a chica too soon just because you may think things are going well. And especially if you are dealing with a chica thats unpredictable at times.

I called a plan B. She is a D Cupid santiago chica. She agreed to meet, but not until tomorrow morning. My guess is it's Friday and she has a sure thing with another dude. My 1st bad sign of plan be, is """"yo no tengo balance disponsible. Llame porfavor. Then later."""puedes recargar mi cuenta por favor? Para acceder al menu de recargas marca #100*12#""""

I haven't even met this chica yet, and she is asking me and telling me how to send her phone credit? She has no balance but she can send me 2 texts to tell me she has no balance? I have already lost interest because I'm sure her RFM is going to extend if we meet tomorrow. She'll probably tell me she needs me to send her money for a taxi. Besides, I'm leaving for SD. What can she do for me in the morning if I'm checking out in a couple of hours?

On a lighter note. Alberto Suites is a hotel for guests and it seems there are residents here as well.

The hotel sits on a narrow side street. 30 calle Santome (near monument and calle Del Sol a busy street ). A small awning out front. You could easily miss this place, driving or walking by.

For 1300 pesos the accomodations were very modest. Small kitchen, full size fridge, little a / see in BR that works only at night. A fan in BR, small color tv. A queen bed. No safe. Blondie had to call twice to get hot water for the shower each night.

For $30 I can't complain. It's an ok place for a short stay traveler. I wouldn't stay a whole week, especially with no safe.

At least I got to have one chica while staying in Santiago. I may set out for the Ahi Bar or some other drinking spot tonight.

I could go to Pasions since I have a car, but don't want to pay a lot for take out.

I have an older Santiago chica I'm supposed to meet, but don't want to call her until I get back from SD after checking out those prospects.

    To be continued.
